Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the third and final story in the ‘Warriors’ Gate and Beyond’ anthology! The first story was ‘Warriors’ Gate’ itself, where I checked out the 2023 Target novelization along with the 2019 Target audiobook and updated my review accordingly. The second story was the 2021 exclusive-to-audio episode ‘The Kairos Ring’, which is part of the ‘Beyond the Doctor’ audio series and was later included in prose form in the ‘Warriors’ Gate and Beyond’ anthology. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve been revisiting Season 18 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series recently. In doing so, I’ve been able to revisit my review of the 2019 BBC Target audiobook of ‘Warriors’ Gate’ by Stephen Gallagher and have updated it accordingly along with the 2023 Target novelization. The 2023 Target novelization is a collection of stories related to ‘Warriors’ Gate’ – all penned by Stephen Gallagher – called ‘Warriors’ Gate and Beyond’. This includes ‘Warriors’ Gate’ itself, ‘The Kairos Ring’ and ‘The Little Book of Fate’. I’ll be sharing my reviews on ‘The Kairos Ring’ and ‘The Little Book of Fate’ in due course. ‘Warriors’ Gate’ is the third and final story in ‘The E-Space Trilogy’ in Season 18 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. The 2019 Target audiobook for ‘Warriors’ Gate’ is read by Jon Culshaw, and he’s joined by John Leeson, who voices K-9 in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Continue reading →

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the ninth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Glass’ by Tara Samms, which is actually a pseudonym for Stephen Cole. The story features the Fourth Doctor and the second Romana, and is read by Sophie Aldred. As well as the ninth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the third story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the seventh story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. Believe it or not, ‘Glass’ is a follow-up to the original ‘Doctor Who’ TV story ‘Shada’, which was completed in 2017 and 2021. Continue reading →

I’ve just updated my review on the Target novelization ‘Doctor Who and the Horns of Nimon’ by Terrance Dicks. This ‘Doctor Who’ story features the Fourth Doctor, Romana II and K-9 Mark II. I revisited this Target novelization with the latest BBC audiobook read by Geoffrey Beevers, who is well-known for playing the Master and voicing the Melkur in ‘The Keeper of Traken’. There’s also John Leeson who voices K-9 in the audiobook for ‘The Horns of Nimon’ Target novelization. Continue reading →
