‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Day of the Doctor’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The time has come for ‘The Day of the Doctor’ by Steven Moffat – the 50th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’. This was shown on BBC TV on the 23rd of November 2013. It stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Billie Piper as the Moment and John Hurt as the War Doctor. There are special guest stars like Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood and Joanna Page as Queen Elizabeth I. The story also features the Daleks as well as the return of the Zygons, who previously appeared in their first TV story ‘Terror of the Zygons’. There are surprise guest cameos of Doctors and companions that a keen ‘Doctor Who’ fan would need to look out for. 😀 This is a ‘Doctor Who’ anniversary special that’s highly rated by the fans. Do I agree with that? Do I think that this is a better anniversary special than ‘The Five Doctors’, the 20th anniversary special? Does it cover everything that I want to celebrate about 50 years of my favourite TV show? Are there things that I like about ‘The Day of the Doctor’? 😀 ‘The Day of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dimensions In Time’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Does this count as a proper ‘Doctor Who’ story? 😐 I don’t know, but I’m going to include it in my 60th Anniversary Marathon anyway. It’s time for ‘Dimensions In Time’, the 30th anniversary story that was released on Children In Need night back in November 1993. It’s a two-part adventure by John Nathan-Turner and David Roden, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Deborah Watling as Victoria, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Caroline John as Liz, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, Louise Jameson as Leela, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, Lalla Ward as Romana, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. I’ve updated my review slightly with new photos, thanks to the latest video on ‘Dimensions In Time’ by Critical Penguin, which you can check out on YouTube. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 20 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Whilst Season 19 is my favourite season out of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era, Season 20 is arguably my second favourite season. I acknowledge that Season 20 had its problems, particularly in the production values affected by industrial action, but I enjoyed this season more than Season 21. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Five Doctors’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. There’s also the original 90-minute TV version of the story, which can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Reflection on the Third Doctor

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let me share with you what I think of the Jon Pertwee/Third Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ overall. For me, this is where the Doctor’s connections to Earth become more prominent. This is especially when he’s been exiled to Earth by the Time Lords for most of his tenure during his first three TV seasons. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 11 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The fifth and final season of Jon Pertwee’s era of ‘Doctor Who’ is probably one of the most significant in the TV show’s history. Most especially, it introduces us to Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, who would go on to become one of the most popular ‘Doctor Who’ companions ever. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Planet of the Spiders’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’ve come to the end of Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the end of the Jon Pertwee era. Season 11 concludes in the six-part adventure called ‘Planet of the Spiders’. As well as Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, this story also features Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. There are also giant spiders featured in this story. Is one of them Shelob from ‘The Lord of the Rings’? 😀 ‘Planet of the Spiders’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Monster of Peladon’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to return to Peladon, as we take a look at the second of the ‘Peladon Tales’ in ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘The Monster of Peladon’. This is a six-part adventure, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. This story also features the Ice Warriors as well as Alpha Centauri. Does ‘The Monster of Peladon’ match well to how I’ve enjoyed ‘The Curse of Peladon’? This six-part adventure can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Death to the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The Doctor attempts to take Sarah Jane for a trip in the TARDIS to the planet Florana. Instead, they end up on the planet Exxilon, where the Daleks also end up. It’s time for ‘Death to the Daleks’, the third story in Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Does this ‘Doctor Who’ story live up to my expectations compared to other Dalek adventures I’ve enjoyed? This four-part adventure can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Invasion of the Dinosaurs’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the second story in Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘Invasion of the Dinosaurs’, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. This six-part adventure also features Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates (this story sees a character change in Mike) and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. Can the dinosaurs in this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure match to the ones in the ‘Jurassic Park’ movies? 😀 ‘Invasion of the Dinosaurs’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading
