It’s interesting about the 60th anniversary celebrations of ‘Doctor Who’ in terms of conventions. There’s no official convention by the BBC for the 60th year of the TV show in November 2023, like there was when the BBC did a convention for the 50th year at Edexcel, London in November 2013. 😐 Continue reading

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Today, we’re on the penultimate story in Series 8 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out the first contribution made by Frank Cottrell-Boyce as a ‘Doctor Who’ writer in the new TV series. The episode is called ‘In the Forest of the Night’. In the episode, Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor meets up with Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald and Samuel Anderson as Danny Pink, as they take several Coal Hill pupils on an overnight school trip. They discover that London has been covered in a large forest that seems to have appeared out of nowhere the previous night. Can the Doctor work out what’s going on with the trees covering the entire planet Earth in one night? This episode introduces Abigail Eames as Maebh Arden, one of the pupils who went missing and is able to hear the voices of the large forest. There’s another cameo of Michelle Gomez as the mysterious Missy in the TV series. ‘In the Forest of the Night’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

The time has come for ‘The Day of the Doctor’ by Steven Moffat – the 50th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’. This was shown on BBC TV on the 23rd of November 2013. It stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Billie Piper as the Moment and John Hurt as the War Doctor. There are special guest stars like Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood and Joanna Page as Queen Elizabeth I. The story also features the Daleks as well as the return of the Zygons, who previously appeared in their first TV story ‘Terror of the Zygons’. There are surprise guest cameos of Doctors and companions that a keen ‘Doctor Who’ fan would need to look out for. 😀 This is a ‘Doctor Who’ anniversary special that’s highly rated by the fans. Do I agree with that? Do I think that this is a better anniversary special than ‘The Five Doctors’, the 20th anniversary special? Does it cover everything that I want to celebrate about 50 years of my favourite TV show? Are there things that I like about ‘The Day of the Doctor’? 😀 ‘The Day of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

To close off our look into the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, I’m sharing my latest review on the Big Finish audio drama called ‘Wink’, which is the third and final story of the ‘Out of Time’ trilogy, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. I’m pleased that I’ve finished checking out the ‘Out of Time’ audio dramas of ‘Doctor Who’ by Big Finish, having enjoyed the first ‘Out of Time’ story with David Tennant and Tom Baker, and ‘The Gates of Hell’ with David Tennant and Peter Davison. Does this count as a proper ‘Doctor Who’ story? 😐 I don’t know, but I’m going to include it in my 60th Anniversary Marathon anyway. It’s time for ‘Dimensions In Time’, the 30th anniversary story that was released on Children In Need night back in November 1993. It’s a two-part adventure by John Nathan-Turner and David Roden, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Deborah Watling as Victoria, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Caroline John as Liz, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, Louise Jameson as Leela, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, Lalla Ward as Romana, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
And here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is also the last story of the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era as well as the last story of the original 1963-1989 TV series. It’s time for ‘Survival’, a three-part adventure by Rona Munro, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This story has the Doctor taking Ace home to Perivale in the year 1989 and it also features the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master. There are also the Cheetah-People with their leader Karra, played by Lisa Bowerman (who would go on to play Bernice Summerfield in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’). ‘Survival’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox.
