SPOILERS ALERT!!!

So, I’ve just finished seeing Season 1 of the ‘Supergirl’ TV series on ITVX! 🙂 I greatly enjoyed checking out the season and I’m currently enjoying the TV series so far. I believe it’s fair to say that Melissa Benoist’s interpretation of Supergirl is my top favourite so far! 🙂

Before venturing onwards into Season 2 of the series, I’d like to share what I think of ‘Supergirl’ as a TV series so far. It’s certainly very character-driven and action-packed. I’ve found myself watching an episode per night of the series, as it’s very captivating to watch!

The series depicts Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Kara Danvers who becomes Supergirl to protect National City, which I assume is within the same region as Metropolis. This is especially as Kara is Superman’s cousin and she keeps in touch with him via text. 😀

The ‘Supergirl’ TV series is certainly very different from the 1984 ‘Supergirl’ film with Helen Slater. Instead of coming from hyperspace, Kara journeyed to Earth to protect Cal-El (Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman) as an infant, but she arrived quite some time after him. 😐

I like how despite not needing to protect Cal-El since he became Superman, Kara continued to find a way to use her powers to protect humanity within National City with the help of family and friends that knew her. She also faces a lot of challenges along the way.

Melissa Benoist’s performance as Kara/Supergirl is amazing throughout each episode of Season 1 of ‘Supergirl’. I like how she balances the morality and genuine compassion of the character with the trials and tribulations Kara faces that might endanger her as a hero.

Season 1 comprises of 20 episodes, which were shown from October 2015 to April 2016. I do wish I’d checked out the series as it was being shown at time from 2015 to 2016, but I’m still very happy that I can watch the ‘Supergirl’ TV series from beginning to end on ITVX.

As well as Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, there’s Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, who becomes Kara’s love interest in the series. There’s Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, who is Kara’s adoptive sister in the series and works at the secret government agency – the DEO.

Sounds like another U.N.I.T. from ‘Doctor Who’ to me. 😀 There’s also Jeremy Jordan as Winn, Kara’s best friend, who has unrequited feelings for her in the series. And there’s David Harewood (who I’ve seen in ‘The End of Time’) as Hank Henshaw of the DEO.

Although, he turns out to be J’onn J’onzz (which sounds like John Jones and not Tim Shaw 😀 ) who is a Martian. 😐 There’s also Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant (who was in Season 1 of ‘Lois & Clark’). Cat is the founder and CEO of CatCo Worldwide Media in the series. 🙂

Other characters in the series include Laura Benanti as Astra In-Ze, Kara’s aunt and Alura Zor-El, Kara’s mother. There’s also Dean Cain (who played Clark Kent/Superman in ‘Lois & Clark’) and Helen Slater (Supergirl from the 1984 film) as Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.

Jeremiah and Eliza are Kara’s adoptive parents in the series as well as Alex’s parents. How fitting that Kara’s adoptive parents on Earth happen to be played by one of the actors who played Superman in the 1990s as well as the actress who played Supergirl in the 1984 film.

There’s Jenna Dewan-Tatum as Lucy Lane, Lois Lane’s sister and James Olsen’s girlfriend in the series. There’s Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, Glenn Morshower as Sam Lane, Lucy and Lois’ father, and Chris Vance as Non, Astra’s husband and Season 1’s big villain.

Other villains in the series include Brit Morgan as Leslie Willis/Livewire, Italia Ricci as Siobhan Smyte/Silver Banshee and Laura Vandervoort as Indigo. There’s also Briana Venskus as Agent Vasquez who works at the DEO in certain episodes of Season 1. 🙂

Henry Czerny, who I’ve seen in the first, seventh and eighth ‘Mission: Impossible’ films, guests stars as Winslow Schott, Sr/Toyman, Winn’s father in the tenth episode ‘Childish Things’. There’s also Grant Gustin who guest stars as Barry Allen/the Flash in an episode.

That’s the eighteenth episode called ‘Worlds Finest’. It was nice to see Grant Gustin as the Flash making a guest appearance in the ‘Supergirl’ TV series. Apparently, the episode is a crossover with the Season 2 episode from ‘The Flash’ TV series called ‘Versus Zoom’.

Not that I’ve seen ‘The Flash’ TV series. It’s interesting the Flash who appears in the ‘Supergirl’ TV series doesn’t come from the same universe as her, as he had to get back to his own universe in ‘Worlds Finest’. I’ll learn more about the Arrowverse as I watch more of the ‘Supergirl’ TV series.

An episode that stands out well for me from Season 1 is the sixteenth episode called ‘Falling’ where Supergirl ends up becoming a bad person after coming into contact with red Kryptonite. The performance that Melissa Benoist gives in that episode is spectacular.

Season 1 of ‘Supergirl’ has been amazing to check out. I’m glad I’ve been able to get into this series and I’m looking forward to checking out more as I continue to watch ‘Supergirl’ on ITVX. Melissa Benoist is a huge highlight in every episode as well as the rest of the cast.

I don’t know at what point I’ll finish ‘Supergirl’ a series whilst I watch it on ITVX. No doubt it’ll be before the end of the year. I hope to share my thoughts on Season 2 sometime in August. Whatever happens, I’m keen to check out Season 2 and enjoy many surprises. 🙂
