Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I know I’m behind in terms of doing reviews related to ‘The Mandalorian’ series in ‘Star Wars’. So far, I’ve shared quick reviews on Seasons 1 and 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’ and on ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ series. 🙂 I’ve not checked out Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ yet.
I’m hoping there’ll come a time where I’ll be doing a quick review of Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ as I revisit Seasons 1 and 2 of the show as well as ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ series on Blu-ray and Disney+. I hope I’ll do in-depth reviews on ‘The Mandalorian’ series.
In the meantime, for the sake of argument, here’s me sharing my thoughts on the latest instalment of ‘The Mandalorian’ series released at cinemas this year – ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’. 🙂 I enjoyed checking out this film when I saw it on the big screen last Saturday.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ is what I expected to see on the big screen. An action-packed adventure featuring Mando and his Baby Yoda-like apprentice Grogu. It’s an enjoyable instalment in ‘The Mandalorian’ series to spend 132 minutes on at the cinema.
Some might argue that this film isn’t worth seeing, but I found it a worthwhile experience. It’s well-directed by Jon Favreau and it features an amazing performance by Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian (along with Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder as the on-set doubles for Mando) as well as Grogu, who you’d easily forget is an animatronic puppet. 🙂
In the film, Mando and Grogu are enlisted by the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt, on behalf of Rotta’s aunt and uncle – the Hutt Twins. This is in exchange for information on a target that will bring down the Galactic Empire even further.
I think it would help to see ‘The Mandalorian’ series first to understand what’s going on in how the characters are set up like Mando and Grogu. But I don’t think it’s a necessity, since you can view the film on its own before seeing ‘The Mandalorian’ series afterwards.
There’s a section of the film where Grogu looks after Mando after he’d been bitten with poison by a deadly water creature beneath the Hutt Twin’s palace. It’s a very well-put together section in this film that mostly has no dialogue when Gorgu is looking after Mando.
As well as Pedro Pascal and Grogu, the film’s cast also includes Sigourney Weaver as Colonel War, who is the leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and previously served as a pilot for the Rebel Alliance. It was nice to see Sigourney Weaver in the film. 🙂
Rotta the Hutt, who is Jabba the Hutt’s son, is voiced by Jeremy Allen White. Rotta is quite a contrast to his father, who was a nasty piece of work in ‘Return of the Jedi’. Rotta is kinder than his father, has a soft spot for Grogu, and provides vital information for Mando.
There’s also Jonny Coyne as Janu Coin, a crime lord on the planet Shakari and the leader of a faction of Galactic Emprie remnants. And there’s Martin Scorsese as Hugo Durant, an Ardennian shopkeeper. Shirley Henderson happens to be in this ‘Star Wars’ film too. 🙂
She voices four members of the Anzellan species who are enlisted to modify the Razor Crest ship for Mando. For me, Shirley Henderson was in the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘Love & Monsters’ and she’s in movies like ‘Stan & Ollie’ in 2019 and ‘See How They Run’ in 2022.
There are plenty of visual effects sequences to see throughout this film, as to be expected in ‘Star Wars’. 🙂 That didn’t spoil my enjoyment, as I was able to engage with the characters like Mando and Grogu and enjoy the action sequences featured throughout this movie. 🙂
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ was a worthwhile film for me to see at the cinema lately. I’m pleased I was able to enjoy it. I’m looking forward to seeing this film again someday when it comes to revisiting the entire series of ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
