Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
So, I’m currently revisiting ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film trilogies in their extended forms, as my parents and I usually do every year. Having just finished ‘The Hobbit’ film trilogy, it’s a good opportunity to share thoughts on an upcoming 2027 movie.
I’m, of course, talking about ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’, which is directed by Andy Serkis, the actor who plays Gollum in the Peter Jackson universe of Middle-Earth. I’m looking forward to seeing this film, especially as a huge Christmas 2027 event.
Here’s a teaser video for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ with Andy Serkis.
So, from what I’ve gathered in terms of the information I can find about this film, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is one film only. It’s not a two-film story. Nor is it a three-film story. I think there’s another live-action ‘LOTR’ film happening, but that’s going to be about, I don’t really know.
This will be a nice opportunity to see another live-action ‘LOTR’ film at the cinema compared to checking out ‘The War of the Rohirrim’ on DVD recently. Not that I didn’t enjoy that film. It’s just I prefer live-action in ‘LOTR’ compared to animation and anime. 🙂
Like I said, this is another Peter Jackson Middle-Earth universe film, despite it being directed by Andy Serkis. Peter Jackson is still one of the film’s producers with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens who are writing this film with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
In terms of the story of ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, it takes place between the events of the two film trilogies during ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’, the first ‘LOTR’ film, where Strider/Aragorn is hunting for Gollum. This should be intriguing to check out when I see it.
As well as Andy Serkis as Gollum/Sméagol, the cast includes Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, Leo Woodall as Halvard, Lee Pace as Thranduil, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins ( 🙂 ) and there’s Anya Taylor-Joy as Seren.
I’m disappointed that Viggo Mortensen isn’t returning to play Strider/Aragorn in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’. I’m not sure if his not coming back is because he’s older since he last played Aragorn, but it’s a shame. I hope Jamie Dornan will impress me as Strider in this movie. 🙂
Not sure how Thranduil from ‘The Hobbit’ film trilogy is going to fit into the ‘The Hunt for Gollum’. Not how Frodo Baggins is going to fit in either. I’m sure all will be unveiled by the time we get to 2027. At present, the details of ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ story are vague to decipher.
I’ll be interested to see Kate Winslet in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ as well as Anya Taylor-Joy, having seen and heard them in previous film productions. With Kate Winslet, it’s ‘Titanic’ and ‘Sense & Sensibility’, and with Anya Taylor-Joy, it’s ‘Emma.’ and ‘The New Mutants’. 🙂
So yeah, there’s not much to go on regarding what ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is going to be like as a ‘Lord of the Rings’ film. Hopefully, it’ll be very enjoyable and entertaining to check out. I’m really amazed that live-action ‘LOTR’ films are still being produced after all these years.
There are plenty of films to look forward to this Christmas in 2026, including ‘Ebenezer’, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Jumanji: Open World’. But it’ll be very exciting to check out ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt of Gollum’ when it comes to cinemas in December 2027.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
