SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve finished checking out Season 2 of the ‘Supergirl’ TV series starring Melissa Benoist on ITVX! I’m continuing to enjoy the series, finding the episodes compelling and engaging to watch every evening as they contain some great storytelling and character development!
After seeing Season 1 of ‘Supergirl’, I was very keen to check out more of this series, as it fulfilled my expectations of what Supergirl as a superhero character should be. I’m likely to finish the ‘Supergirl’ TV show by the time we get to Christmas this year or early 2027. 🙂
Season 2 itself consists of 22 episodes in total. Melissa Benoist continues to shine as Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl in the series. Every episode has showcased various facets of Kara’s character with how she struggles to balance her superhero life and be a reporter.
Yes! Kara has moved on from being Cat Grant’s secretary at the ‘CatCo Magazine’ company in National City to be a news reporter. She experiences many challenges in Season 2, including the emotional ones where her abilities as a superhero get put to test.
Joining Melissa Benoist in the regular cast line-up is Mechad Brooks as James Olsen who takes over CatCo after Cat Grant leaves two episodes into Season 2. The romance between Kara and James didn’t last, but he gets to be a new superhero called Guardian.
Chyler Leigh returns as Alex Danvers in Season 2 of ‘Supergirl’. It was fascinating to explore Alex’s character in this season, as she turns out to be a gay and is soon dating Floriane Lima as a policewoman named Maggie Sawyer. I enjoyed their story in Season 2.
Jeremy Jordan returns as Winn, who moves from working at CatCo to help out at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) where Supergirl, Alex and J’onn J’onzz are. He also helps James Olsen as superhero Guardian who fights crime in the streets at night.
Chris Wood stars as Mon-El, who adopts the Earth name Mike Matthews, and becomes a love interest for Kara in the season. I like how the love story between Kara and Mon-El is developed in the season. Fun fact: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood married in real-life. 🙂
David Harwood returns to play J’onn J’onzz a.k.a. Martian Manhunter, the head of the DEO in the ‘Supergirl’ series. He also plays the original Hank Henshaw that J’onn J’onzz became in the series, except he’s become a cyborg, adopting the name of Cyborg Superman.
In terms of recurring cast members, Andrea Brooks stars as Eve Teschmacher, a character you’re likely to recall from the first two ‘Superman’ movies with Christopher Reeve. 🙂 She works as a secretary at CatCo – first for Cat Grant and later for James Olsen.
There’s Brenda Strong as Lillian Luthor, the evil head of Project Cadmus and Lex Luthor’s mother, apparently. There’s also Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Lillian’s daughter and Lex’s sister, who actually happens to be the nicest and good-hearted of the Luthor family.
Calista Flockhart returns as Cat Grant in the series and appears in four episodes of Season 2 – the first two and the last two. There’s also Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, a hard-nosed newsman who’s hired by Cat Grant to be the editor-in-chief of ‘CatCo Magazine’. 😐
Tyler Hoechlin appears as Clark Kent/Superman in the ‘Supergirl’ TV series, appearing in four episodes of Season 2, including the first two and the last two. It’s nice to see Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in ‘Supergirl’, having seen him in Season 1 of ‘Superman & Lois’.
There’s also Sharon Leal as M’gann M’orzz, who happens to be a Martian that J’onn J’onzz meets in Season 2 and grows feelings for. It was interesting how it’s uncovered that M’gann happens to be a white Martian and yet, she isn’t whom J’onn expected her to be.
Helen Slater (the original Supergirl from 1984) returns as Eliza Danvers, Kara’s adoptive mother and Alex’s mother. It was nice to see her again. Dean Cain (from ‘Lois & Clark’) also returns as Jeremiah Danvers, Kara’s adoptive father and Alex’s father in the TV series.
One of the highlights of Season 2 of ‘Supergirl’ was seeing Teri Hatcher (well-known for playing Lois Lane in ‘Lois & Clark’) as the villainous Queen Rhea, Mon-El’s mother. Teri Hatcher’s performance as Queen Rhea is so compelling and not like how she plays Lois Lane. 😀
Tamzin Merchant plays Lyra Strayd, who becomes Winn’s girlfriend in Season 2. 🙂 There’s Frederick Schimidt (who has appeared in the sixth and seventh ‘Mission: Impossible’ films with Tom Cruise) as John Corben/Metallo. There’s also Rich Ting as Gilcrist/Metallo.
Lynda Carter (well-known for playing Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series as well as being in ‘Sky High’ and ‘Wonder Woman 1984’) plays the U.S. President Olivia Marsdin. There’s Nadine Crocker as Scorcher and Dichen Lachman as Veronica Sinclair/Roulette.
There’s William Mapother as Rudy Jones/Parasite, Victor Zinck, Jr. as Phillip Karnowsky/Barrage, Harley Quinn Smith as Izzy Williams, Ian Butcher as Lionel Luthor – who is Lex Luthor’s father, Aidan Fink as a young Lex Luthor, Kevin Sorbo as King Lar Gand.
There’s Rahul Kohl as Jack Spheer, Lonnie Chavis as Marcus and Mark Gibbon as General Zod, although Zod appears as an hallucination in Superman’s mind when he’s fighting Supergirl. Brit Morgan also returns as the villainous Leslie Willis/Livewire in the season. 🙂
I have a bit of an annoyance with Season 2 of ‘Supergirl’. At the end of the eighth episode called ‘Medusa’, there’s a brief cameo of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/the Flash and Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe from ‘The Flash’ TV series which leads into a crossover event.
That crossover event is the ‘Invasion!’ storyline, which is in three episodes from ‘The Flash’, ‘Arrow’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ TV shows. Supergirl appears in ‘Invasion!’, but I’ve not seen that story yet, as I don’t have access to the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ TV show via ITVX.
I’ll have to check out the ‘Invasion!’ DC crossover event another time. I’ve seen and enjoyed the ‘Duet’ episode in Season 3 of ‘The Flash’, as there’s a continuation of the Kara and Mon-El romance story in that following the end of the Season 2 ‘Supergirl’ episode ‘Star-Crossed’.
The guest character Darren Criss as Music Meister appears in the ‘Supergirl’ episode ‘Star-Crossed’, which leads into ‘The Flash’ episode ‘Duet’. I’m able to access ‘The Flash’ TV series on ITVX. Hopefully, I’ll see ‘The Flash’ TV series on ITVX sometime after ‘Supergirl’.
There’s an episode called ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk’ which features a guest character called Mister Mxyzptlk, played by Peter Gadiot. Apparently, Mister Mxyzptlk has also been in the ‘Lois & Clark’ TV series. In the ‘Supergirl’ TV series, he attempts to get married to Supergirl.
Season 2 of ‘Supergirl’ concludes on a sad note where Kara/Supergirl loses her boyfriend Mon-El in the effort of defeating of his villainous mother Queen Rhea. I’m saddened that’s happened, especially as I enjoyed the romance between Kara and Mon-El in Season 2. 🙂
It goes to show how much I’m enjoying ‘Supergirl’ as a TV show so far. I’m about to check out Season 3 of ‘Supergirl’ next. I’ve seen the opening of the first episode of Season 3 and I’m looking forward to checking out more, as the episodes have been so gripping to watch.
I knew that I’d enjoy checking out ‘Supergirl’ as TV show on ITVX. Having watched an episode per night from Season 1 onwards leading into Season 2, the rest of 2026 will be full of enjoyable and captivating evenings whilst viewing Melissa Benoist as the heroic Supergirl. 🙂
Off to check out Season 3 of ‘Supergirl’! 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
