Quick TV Series Review – ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ (2020-26) (Series 7)

SPOILERS ALERT!!!

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve seen all of Series 7 of the new ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ TV series on Channel 5 from September to October 2026! 🙂 Once again, I’ve greatly enjoyed each of the six episodes in the latest ‘All Creatures’ season and found it a very reassuring series to watch.

It’s amazing to find that the new ‘All Creatures’ series has reached its seventh season and is on an equal pairing to the original BBC TV series. Though, arguably, the original ‘All Creatures’ BBC TV series has more episodes compared to the new Channel 5 TV show. 🙂

Despite that, it’s been lovely to reunite with the Skeldale and Darrowby characters in the new ‘All Creatures’ series and find out what they’ve been up to. Every episode has been engaging from beginning to end, and I’m pretty intrigued as to where the series will go next.

Nicholas Ralph returns as James Herriot and Rachel Shenton returns as Helen Herriot. It’s been nice to see more of James and Helen as a happily married couple along with their two children – Thomas Riches as Jimmy and Isabella Ward as Rosie, who are superb.

We get to see more of Jimmy and Rosie as James and Helen’s children compared to how the original BBC TV series did them as characters. Though, it’d be fair to say Jimmy has more dialogue to say compared to Rosie, especially as he’s older than her in the TV show.

I liked the fourth episode where James and Siegfried performed a risky surgery on someone’s cow and calf. It was also fascinating to see James give his all to try and save one of the new herd belonging to Helen’s dad, and Helen reassured him throughout.

Samuel West returns as Siegfried Farnon and Anna Madeley returns as Mrs. Audrey Hall. It was interesting to see how Siegfried’s character developed in Series 7, especially as he was in a relationship with Maimie McCoy as Dorothy and they got engaged to be married.

But by the time we get to the sixth and final episode of Series 7, Siegfried and Dorothy end the engagement, as it becomes clear Siegfried has deep romantic feelings for Mrs. Hall. I’m not sure if many people saw that coming, but it was quite a surprise to see in Series 7.

Callum Woodhouse returns as Tristan Farnon. I enjoyed Tristan’s journey in Series 7, especially when he was in a relationship with Gaia Wise as Charlotte Beauvoir. Sadly, Charlotte leaves in the fifth episode, but I’m sure she and Tristan will reunite in the future.

Tristan is offered to be a veterinary partner at Skeldale House in the fifth episode of Series 7, but he turns it down and instead applies for the Ministry of Agriculture. This is something that happened in the BBC TV series featuring Peter Davison as Tristan Farnon.

In terms of the rest of the cast featured in Series 7, there’s Tony Pitts as Richard Alderson, Helen’s father. Imogen Clawson returns as Jenny Alderson, Helen’s sister, though she’s only in the first episode of Series 7. There’s also Mollie Winnard who returns as Maggie. 🙂

We’re introduced to a new character in Series 7 and it happens to be Caolan McCarthy as Granville Bennett. Granville has appeared in the original ‘All Creatures’ BBC TV series and he was played by James Grout. The new Granville is quite different to the original one. 😀

There’s also Granville’s wife Zoe Bennett, played by Jade Greyul. Patricia Hodge returns as Mrs. Pumphrey in the series along with Tricki-Woo! 😀 Apparently, Dean Lennox Kelly (William Shakespeare in a ‘Doctor Who’ story) appears in the fifth episode of Series 7. 🙂

He plays a character called Josh Anderson in that! 🙂 In the episode, Josh Anderson provides Tristan a haircut before his dog accidentally eats a bone and Tristan quickly attends to him. Fortunately, Tristan saves the dog’s life, to which Josh Anderson is very grateful. 🙂

In the second episode of Series 7, there’s Geoffrey Leesley as Grandad Hollin. Geoffrey Leesley has been in an episode of the original ‘All Creatures’ BBC TV series as well as an episode of ‘Hetty Wainthropp Investigates’ and a BBC ‘Doctor Who’ audio adventure. 🙂

In terms of behind-the-scenes, Maxine Alderton is back as a writer on the third episode of Series 7 of new ‘All Creatures’. She previously wrote episodes in Series 4 and 5 of new ‘All Creatures’ and she’s penned a couple of ‘Doctor Who’ episodes for the new TV series.

Brian Percival is also back as a director on a couple of episodes in Series 7 of the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series. Brian Percival has directed two episodes in each season of the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series so far and has directed episodes in the ‘Downton Abbey’ series.

It’s been great to return to the new ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ TV series once again with Series 7. The stories and the characters have been engaging to watch and there’s always a very nice cosy feeling you get when watching a new ‘All Creatures’ season on TV.

It’s been nice to see a few behind-the-scenes items on the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series after checking out an episode, including one featuring Nicholas Ralph and Rachel Shenton, and one featuring Samuel West and Anna Madeley. They’re brand-new to Series 7, I believe.

No doubt, we’ll be returning to new ‘All Creatures’ again soon with the 2026 Christmas Special to look forward to and enjoy. I’m wondering what will happen between Siegfried and Mrs. Hall in the series. Will there be a happily ever after for Siegfried and Mrs. Hall? 😐

See you soon for the 2026 Christmas Special in December. Stay tuned! 🙂

In the meantime, I’m about to revisit Series 1 of ‘The Forsytes’ before checking out Series 2 on My5. Stay tuned for that too! 😀

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
