Jean Marsh (1934-2025)

Hello everyone.

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

I’m saddened Jean Marsh has passed away. For many, Jean Marsh co-created and starred in the ITV series ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’. She also co-created the BBC TV series called ‘The House of Elliot’ with Eileen Atkins (who also co-created ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ with Jean). Continue reading

Quick Movie Review – ‘Wonka’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve seen the latest musical fantasy film called ‘Wonka’ at the cinema. This happens to be an origin story for Willy Wonka, a character in the 1964 book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. It’s also a prequel to the 1971 film ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ with Gene Wilder. Continue reading

Quick Movie Review – ‘Matilda the Musical’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Do you know what my favourite Roald Dahl children’s book is of all time? No, not ‘Charles and the Chocolate Factory’. No, not ‘James and the Giant Peach’. My favourite Roald Dahl children’s book is ‘Matilda’. I also love the film adaptation by Danny DeVito, starring Mara Wilson as the title character. Continue reading

Today we’re going to look at another film adaptation of a children’s book from ‘The World of Roald Dahl’. This time though it’s a TV movie of less fantastical and more real-life down-to-earth children’s story. This is the film, ‘Danny the Champion of the World’, starring Jeremy Irons and Robbie Coltrane.
