Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #5

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Yes! We’re back with Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! After checking out Series 15 of the new TV series with Ncuti Gatwa, it’s time to pick up where we left off with our look into Peter Davison’s second season as the Fifth Doctor. Today, we’re checking out the fifth story called ‘Enlightenment’. It’s also the third story of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’. ‘Enlightenment’ is a four-part adventure by the late Barbara Clegg. This is his first and only contribution to the TV series. The story is directed by the late Fiona Cumming, who previously directed ‘Snakedance’. ‘Enlightenment’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough. Valentine Dyall returns for his third appearance in Season 20 and we have the return of Cyril Luckhman as the White Guardian, who previously debuted in ‘The Ribos Operation’ in ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16). ‘Tales From The TARDIS’ Review – ‘Old Flames’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the twelfth and final instalment of the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Old Flames’ by Paul Magrs. The story features the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane. It also features the ‘Doctor Who’ debut of Iris Wildthyme, a character who made her debut in three ‘Phoenix Court’ novels published by Vintage Books in the 1990s. She’s currently played by Katy Manning in the Big Finish audios. ‘Old Flames’ is read by Nicholas Courtney, who played the Brigadier in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the Big Finish audios. As well as the twelfth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the sixth story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the second story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. Continue reading

‘Tales From The TARDIS’ Review – ‘Stop the Pigeon’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out the eleventh and penultimate story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Stop the Pigeon’ by Robert Perry and Mike Tucker. The story features the Seventh Doctor and Ace. It also features the Tremas Master, as played by Anthony Ainley, as well as a Krynoid and a talking pigeon. 😀 The story is read by Sophie Aldred, who plays Ace in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the Big Finish audios. As well as the eleventh story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the fifth story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the fifth story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. Apparently, the prose version of ‘Stop the Pigeon’ is longer than the audio version of the story. 😀 Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the ninth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Glass’ by Tara Samms, which is actually a pseudonym for Stephen Cole. The story features the Fourth Doctor and the second Romana, and is read by Sophie Aldred. As well as the ninth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the third story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the seventh story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. Believe it or not, ‘Glass’ is a follow-up to the original ‘Doctor Who’ TV story ‘Shada’, which was completed in 2017 and 2021. Continue reading

‘Tales From The TARDIS’ Review – ‘Model Train Set’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re taking a look at the eighth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Model Train Set’ by Jonathan Blum. This story features the Eighth Doctor only and is read by Sophie Aldred, who plays Ace in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the Big Finish audios. As well as the eighth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the second story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the first story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. I believe ‘Model Train Set’ is the only story in the first ‘Short Trips’ collection by the BBC to have an unabridged audiobook reading. Continue reading

Hope you’re enjoying Easter Sunday so far! Today in my Easter review season on the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories, I’m sharing my review on the story ‘Moon Graffiti’ by Dave Stone, featuring the Sixth Doctor and Peri, and read by Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. It’s also the fourth story in the ‘More Short Trips’ book collection, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. I didn’t think I’d be revisiting ‘Moon Graffiti’ and re-sharing my review on it so soon. 😀 Continue reading

Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on what I consider to be a very significant story in Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, we’re checking out the fourth story of the season called ‘Terminus’, and it’s the second story of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’. ‘Terminus’ is a four-part story by Stephen Gallagher, who previously penned ‘Warriors’ Gate’ in Season 18. The story is directed by Mary Ridge, who previously directed six episodes of ‘Blake’s 7’. ‘Terminus’ is the final TV adventure to feature Sarah Sutton as Nyssa in ‘Doctor Who’. It’s a very special story for me, as it began what prompted me to go to ‘Doctor Who’ conventions and meet people like Sarah Sutton, Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson who appear in this story. Valentine Dyall returns as the Black Guardian in this ‘Doctor Who’ story and there’s also the introduction of the Vanir and the Garm. Continue reading
