Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the penultimate story of Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who‘ TV series. It’s time for another one of my favourite stories from the William Hartnell/First Doctor era – a six-part adventure called ‘The Chase’, featuring the third appearance of the Daleks on TV. This story is notable for featuring the debut of Peter Purves in ‘Doctor Who’ where he plays Morton Dill in the third episode and Steven Taylor in the sixth episode. Steven Taylor becomes a new ‘Doctor Who’ companion after this story. There’s also the introduction of the Mechanoids in this story. ‘The Chase’ also features the departure of TARDIS regulars William Russell as Ian Chesterton and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright, who have been in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series since the beginning. Today in our look of Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series via its Blu-ray box set, it’s time to check out one of the most ambitious ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made from the William Hartnell/First Doctor era. It’s time for ‘The Web Planet’, a six-part adventure by Bill Strutton. This story has our heroes – William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara and Maureen O’Brien as Vicki – visiting the planet Vortis. On the planet, there are a variety of insect-like aliens, including the butterfly-like Menoptera, the ant-like Zarbi, the worm-like Larvae Guns (Venom Grubs), the woodlice-like Optera and the spider-like Animus. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the 25th anniversary season of ‘Doctor Who’ – Season 25 – starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. We begin with my absolute favourite story from the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era called ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, a four-part adventure by Ben Aaronovitch. This story has the Seventh Doctor and Ace travelling back in time to the year 1963 where they visit Coal Hill School in Shoreditch, London. We’re also introduced to the Counter-Measures team, including Simon Williams as Group Captain Gilmore, Pamela Salem as Rachel and Karen Gledhill as Allison. ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. We come now to the sixth and final story of Season 22 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘Revelation of the Daleks’, a two-part 45-minute episode story by Eric Saward, starring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. As well as the Daleks and Terry Molloy as Davros, this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure also features an amazing guest cast of actors, including the likes of Eleanor Bron, Clive Swift, William Gaunt, John Ogwen, Alexei Sayle, Jenny Tomasin, Stephen Flynn, Bridget Lynch-Blosse, Hugh Walters, Trevor Cooper, Colin Spaull and Alec Linstead. ‘Revelation of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ by Eric Saward, the fourth story in Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Originally, this story was meant to be a four-part adventure before it became a two-part bumper edition story, with the episodes having lengths of 45 minutes each. The story has Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor fighting against the Daleks, along with their creator Davros, played by Terry Molloy. This story also features the final regular appearance of Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka. Mark Strickson also appears as Turlough, and there’s a special guest star appearance of Rodney Bewes, who was in ‘The Likely Lads’ and ‘Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads’. ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. It’s the second story of Season 15 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and we’re introduced to a new travelling companion in the TARDIS. This is ‘The Invisible Enemy’, a four-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin. The story introduces us to K-9, a robot dog built by Frederick Jaeger as Professor Marius. K-9 is voiced by John Leeson. It’s Easter Sunday today and it’s time for ‘The Brain of Morbius’, a four-part ‘Doctor Who’ story in the classic TV series, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. It’s the only ‘Doctor Who’ story to be written by ‘Robin Bland’ (a pseudonym for prolific ‘Doctor Who’ author Terrance Dicks 😀 ). This is one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Tom Baker era and it was the first Fourth Doctor TV story I checked out on DVD in 2006. It’s a well-loved classic. This is ‘Genesis of the Daleks’, a six-part story starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith and Ian Marter as Harry Sullivan. As well as the Daleks, this story also introduces us to their creator Davros, played by Michael Wisher. ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading →
