‘THE BIG BRAINWASHER’

In this ‘Spider-Man’ story, we have the return of the Kingpin. I’m pleased that the series didn’t forget about the Kingpin since he managed to escape at the end of ‘King Pinned’. But in terms of his return being worthwhile, that’s debatable. I hope the Kingpin got arrested by the time Spidey finished him.

This story also has Mary Jane Watson, Peter’s girlfriend. Wait! It’s in this episode we get to meet Mary Jane at last! I feel rather disappointed since Mary Jane’s introduction is underwhelming. She ends up being like other girlfriends Peter has and he doesn’t have a long-lasting relationship with. 🙁

I feel the 1960s comics that featured Mary Jane and her introduction in the 1990s TV series were better compared to this episode. It also turns out that Mary Jane is the niece of Captain Ned/George Stacy who was in ‘To Cage a Spider’. Oh! That’s different and not at all faithful to the original comics.

Stacy also looks different in this episode compared to his previous appearance. He has black hair and a moustache instead of grey hair and no moustache. MJ’s job as a new nightclub dancer goes wrong and Spider-Man gets to save Mary Jane and her uncle Captain Stacy from the clutches of the Kingpin.

‘The Big Brainwasher’ rating – 4/10
