‘DIET OF DESTRUCTION’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a pretty bizarre ‘Spider-Man’ story in the 1960s series. Yeah, I know. Big shock! But the villain of this ‘Spidey’ story happens to be a giant robot that can eat lots of metal. And we never find out where the robot came from and who built it. It’s left unanswered which must be very disappointing.

Spider-Man sights the metal-eating monster robot at night. Peter Parker tries to show a photo of it to J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle but he doesn’t believe it. Eventually, Jameson receives phone calls left; right and centre about the metal-eating monster robot attacking New York City in the tale.

Confronting the robot during the day-time, Spidey tries all he can to tame the robot, including using a crane machine with a magnet. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work. Thankfully, he manages to cause the robot to fall into the river. I guess, like the Sandman, the robot’s weakness happens to be water.

I do think the ‘Spider-Man’ stories so far are rather simplistic, especially when we don’t know much about the villains. In other ‘Spider-Man’ stories in the 1990s TV series, the villains are more complex. I’m finding the 1990s series superior compared to what the 1960s series is giving us in terms of stories. 🙁

‘Diet of Destruction’ rating – 6/10
