‘CAPTURED BY J. JONAH JAMESON’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This ‘Spidey’ story should be called ‘Captured by a Spider-Slayer’ rather than ‘Captured by J. Jonah Jameson’. Mind you, Jameson could easily be the villain, especially when he wants to capture Spidey and unmask him. We haven’t got to the Scorpion yet. Why didn’t this tale feature the Scorpion in it?

In the story, a man called Henry Smythe reveals his spider-slayer robot to Jameson, which he can use to capture Spider-Man. Not Spencer or Alistair Smythe as in the 1990s TV series. Henry Smythe! And …this was his only appearance! Surely there are more Spider-Slayer episodes featuring the Smythes!

Jameson becomes enthusiastic – perhaps too enthusiastic – when he and Smythe send out the spider-slayer robot to capture Spider-Man in the New York streets. I’m glad Betty Brant deliberately pulled the plug to stop the spider-slayer robot holding Spider-Man without Jameson and Smythe seeing.

Thankfully, Spidey manages to defeat the robot and breaks into the robot controls. Jameson and Smythe are surprised when they find the robot disabled and they find no-one inside the Spider-Man suit itself. How did Peter get out? Peter goes in the Daily Bugle next day to hear Jameson’s not there. 😀

‘Captured by J. Jonah Jameson’ rating – 7/10
