‘COLD STORAGE’

This ‘Spider-Man’ story has our web-slinging hero locked up in ‘cold storage’ before he finds himself back in the age of the dinosaurs, cavemen and mammoths in New York. This got me intrigued as I watched the episode. I wondered whether Spidey had been transported back in time in New York. 😐

In the episode, two jewel thieves get caught in the act by Spidey after they rob a jewellery store. One of the jewel thieves happens to be a man called Dr. Cool, who often has his moustache edited in and out now and again in certain shots of the episode. And yes, I know, Dr. Cool is a ridiculous name.

Dr. Cool and his accomplice try to mix in the jewels with ice before smuggling them out of the country. Once Spidey fights off these two crooks, Dr. Cool uses his trick cane to render the web-slinger unconscious. Very soon, the thieves tie Spider-Man up and they place him in a deep freeze. 😮

They turn the temperature down to absolute zero. Spidey is unable to free himself before the cold takes over. He soon wakes up to find the city in ruins and inhabited by cavemen, mammoths and dinosaurs. It’s very chaotic when Spider-Man can’t get a break from fighting these prehistoric beings.

I did wonder if this ‘Spider-Man’ had gone all ‘Jurassic Park’ and wondered how New York could’ve been in this state. I wondered if the two crooks had been responsible. But it soon turns out that all that Spidey experienced was a dream. Even my Dad guessed that when we watched this episode. 😀

I admit, I was slightly disappointed by that since the whole ‘Jurassic Park’ apocalyptic dystopia of New York seemed intriguing and I wondered how it ended up like that. To make out that all Spidey experienced was a dream seems to be a cheat. Spidey soon gets saved by an ice man who comes in.

Once set free, Spidey sets out to stop Dr. Cool and his accomplice in their next mad scheme to steal jewels and mix them in with ice. Spidey thankfully manages to overcome Dr. Cool’s trick cane attack. Soon, Dr. Cool and his accomplice get arrested. I am glad Spidey was able to catch them at midnight.

Overall, ‘Cold Storage’ had a good concept but it wasn’t well-executed. It was unusual to see Spider-Man get frozen up in cold storage and experience what a Jurassic-like future of New York would be like. It would’ve been really interesting to see how Spider-Man would put everything back to normal.
