‘OUR MAN BASHIR’ (DS9)
Please feel free to comment on my review.

I found this to be a fun ‘DS9’ episode featuring Dr. Bashir and Garak in a James Bond kind of setting in the holosuite. It also allows other ‘DS9’ cast members to have a go at playing different characters.
In the tale, Bashir gets to live out his fantasy in playing a glamorous secret agent in the 1960s. This is before he’s rudely interrupted by Andrew Robinson as Garak who wants to join in him in his fantasy.
It’s fascinating and amusing how Garak takes an interest in Bashir’s fantasy whilst Bashir is embarrassed by him being here. It permits Garak to see how Earth spies are depicted in the 1960s. 🙂
Meanwhile, a runabout containing Sisko, Kira, Dax, O’Brien and Worf return to DS9 after a tiring mission. The runabout gets sabotaged however and Kenneth Marshall as Eddington rescues them. 🙂
As Eddington transports the DS9 crew members out of there, the transporter gets damaged once the runabout explodes. Eddington tries to store their energy patterns in the station’s computer memory.
The result is that Sisko, Kira, Dax, O’Brien and Worf’s physical patterns end up in Bashir’s holosuite program. Bashir and Garak notice this when Kira appears as the Russian spy – Anastasia Komananov.
It was so funny when Kira was revealed on a turntable as a beautiful Russian spy and romantically interested in Bashir. It also allows Nana Visitor to enjoy doing a fake Russian accent as the character.
Bashir gets in touch with Eddington and Odo outside. They tell him he can’t shut down his holosuite program or else Sisko, Kira, Dax, O’Brien and Worf will die. So, Bashir must keep his program going. 🙂
Bashir and Garak also notice the holosuite safeties are disabled. This means that Bashir and Garak could get hurt or killed during the program. So they must keep alive as well as the other DS9 crew. :!
Kira as Komananov tells Bashir that a mad scientist called Dr. Noah (Yes! That’s a tongue-and-cheek reference to Dr. No) is kidnapping elite scientists. Bashir has to rescue an elite scientist in particular.
That scientist happens to be Professor Honey Bare (with Jadzia Dax’s likeness). And yes! If you think Professor Honey Bare’s name is ridiculous, Bashir has a female valet called Mona Luvsitt in this story.
And sadly she got killed in this, after being played by Marci Brickhouse. 😮 This is when Bashir, Garak and Kira as Komananov end up in a conflict with the assassin Falcon (with Miles O’Brien’s likeness). 🙂
After escaping the Falcon, Bashir, Garak and Kira as Komananov go to a casino where they meet Dr. Noah’s associate Duchamps (with Worf’s likeness). Already, I’m loving how this TV episode plays out.
After they play a game of baccarat with Worf as Duchamps, he knocks Bashir, Garak and Kira as Komananov out with smoke. The trio get taken to meet Dr. Noah at his own lair…on Mount Everest.
And you guessed it…Dr. Noah happens to have Sisko’s likeness. Avery Brooks is clearly enjoying being the villain in Bashir’s holosuite program as he delivers a mesmerising performance throughout.
Sisko as Noah explains his plan to Bashir as he intends to flood the rest of the world and wipe out the humans except for himself and his kidnapped scientists. He also has O’Brien as Falcon as his ally.
Once their cover is blown, Bashir and Garak get handcuffed to an underground laser that will flood the chamber with lava in minutes. Fortunately, after Bashir flirts with Jadzia as Bare, the two escape.
Garak finds the whole situation ridiculous and becoming dangerous and is almost about to close the program that will kill the other crew members. Thankfully, Bashir stops Garak by shooting him here.
The episode concludes with Bashir hitting the button to activate Sisko as Noah’s plan to destroy the world. Soon, Sisko and the others are beamed out of the holosuite by Eddington and all are saved. 🙂
Max Grodénchik as Rom also helps Eddington and Odo out with his expertise in holosuite technology whilst Quark stands nearby. O’Brien isn’t too happy when the Defiant’s wire connections are muffed.
Overall, ‘Our Man Bashir’ is a fun episode featuring Bashir and Garak in a 007 scenario. It was also fun seeing other DS9 heroes participating in Bashir’s holosuite program, playing different characters.
