‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, Part III: ‘The Legacy of the Doctor’, Chapter 20

Chapter 20

SCENE #183 – EXT – TEMPLE, AFRICA/INDIA (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING

ROSE
Flower. It’s got to be a flower.

JEN
(protests) You’re just guessing that.

ROSE
No, I’m not. There are plenty of flowers in this part of the jungle. It’s not difficult.

DONNA
Is one a ‘rose’? (Pause) By the way, how long have you travelled with the Doctor?

ROSE
Must be a year since I’ve travelled with him.

DONNA
(astonished) A year?

ROSE
Well, I say ‘a year’. Time doesn’t really matter when you’re travelling in the TARDIS.

DARBY
(frustrated) Oh, I’ve had enough of this!

NYSSA
James, what are you doing?

BILLY
I wouldn’t go back to the Doctors if I were you.

PERI
Yeah, you could interrupt something important.

DARBY
I’m going to blow open the temple doors myself.

NYSSA
With your laser pistol?

DARBY
Of course. The Doctor gave me a charged-up power pack for my laser pistol after all. (Pause) Now, if you’ll excuse me, ladies; Billy.

Darby heads off.

JEN
Okay, so…anyone else for more I spy?

Meanwhile, with the Doctors…

DOCTOR 8
(flummoxed) I just don’t get it.

DOCTOR 4
Me neither. Even our sonics won’t get us into this building.

Darby arrives, taking out his laser pistol.

DARBY
(interrupts) If you move out of the way please, Doctors.

DOCTOR 4
James, this isn’t the time.

DARBY
(hushes) Ssh! Absolute silence please. I’ve got a couple of doors to open.

DOCTOR 6
You’re going to open the temple doors by yourself?

DARBY
General idea, yeah.

DOCTOR 9
What did you have in mind then?

DARBY
I’m going to shoot the door locks off.

DOCTOR 8
With your laser pistol?

DARBY
Yes! Watch this, everyone. This is how you open a couple of doors.

Everyone watches, as Darby aims his laser pistol at the temple doors’ locks. Opening fire, a laser beam shoots out from his laser pistol. Soon, he stops firing. A moment of silence.

DOCTOR 6
Doesn’t seem to have worked.

DOCTOR 4
Well, it was a nice try, James.

DARBY
Hold on, hold on. Not over yet.

Darby opens fire again. Eventually and thankfully, the doors’ locks come off. The doors gradually open wide, and Darby pockets his laser pistol.

DARBY
(pleased) There we are. All done. I told you I could do it.

Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Peri, Jen and Rose join the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and Darby to see the temple doors open.

PERI
Wow! Second time lucky for you today, huh, James.

DARBY
(satisfied) It certainly is. Thank you for noticing, Peri.

NYSSA
(astounded) Very impressive.

DOCTOR 4
Well done, James. Though we need to have a talk on how patience needs to be the better of you.

DARBY
(groans) Oh great. Another lecture in the TARDIS to look forward to.

JEN
(cries; anxiously) Everyone! Something is behind us!

DONNA
Jen, this isn’t the time to play another I spy game.

JEN
(insistently) I’m being serious! Look!

Everyone looks, as growls and snarls echo from within the jungle.

ROSE
Yeah, I can see something coming out of the jungle. Whatever they are, they don’t sound friendly.

PERI
They seem to be lions and tigers.

BILLY
And wolves. No bears though.

DOCTOR 6
(realises) Oh no!

BILLY
(confused) Shouldn’t that be “Oh my!”, Doctor?

DOCTOR 6
No, Billy, I mean…those aren’t lions, tigers and wolves coming out towards us.

Instantly, the lions, tigers and wolves charge out of the jungle, and they transform into Zygons, led by Commander Kosol and Lieutenant Stromos. The Zygons snarl and growl once transformed.

KOSOL
(snarls) There they are! Our new fugitives!

STROMOS
(barks) Comrades, forward! Apprehend them!

The Zygons charge forward.

DOCTOR 6
(realises; shocked) Zygons! Deadly shapeshifters!

DOCTOR 8
(groans) This day couldn’t get any better.

NYSSA
(cries; urgently) Doctors; we need to get everyone inside the temple right now!

BILLY
(urgently) Yeah! We need to be fast on our feet!

DOCTOR 9
(calls; urgently) Come on, everyone! Into the temple we go! Hurry!

STROMOS
(shouts) Stop them at once! They’ve forced their way into the temple!

KOSOL
(snarls) They won’t escape easily!

The Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors, Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose make their way into the temple, with the Zygons pursuing them, snarling and growling as they go.

SCENE #184 – INT – TEMPLE, AFRICA/INDIA (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
Inside the temple…

DONNA
(realises) Wait! We need to stop these monsters from getting in. We need to lock the doors.

NYSSA
We can’t. We got in by blowing off the locks of the temple doors, remember?

BILLY
There’s not enough time for us to replace the locks.

DOCTOR 4
(bitterly) Yes, if someone didn’t shoot the temple doors’ locks off with his laser pistol, we might have more of a chance to get away from the Zygons.

DARBY
(annoyed) Well, there’s gratitude for you. I try to help out and this is the thanks I get.

PERI
Can’t we just shut the doors on the Zygons? Wouldn’t that slow them down?

DOCTOR 6
Think, Peri. Even if we shut the doors, it wouldn’t stop them getting in quickly compared to locked doors.

KOSOL
(determined; out loud) We’re getting close, brothers!

STROMOS
(barks) Apprehend our fugitives immediately once we’re in reaching distance!

JEN
(urgently) We need to go further into the temple now.

ROSE
Yeah. We might be able to find the other Doctors and friends that we’re looking for to help us out.

DOCTOR 8
(encouragingly) Come on, everyone. Let’s get cracking.

DOCTOR 9
Chop, chop. Or else the Zygons will capture us.

With that, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends venture deeper into the temple.

SCENE #185 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Meanwhile, Salvador and the Valeyard see the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends making their escape in zone #5 on a monitor screen.

VALEYARD
The Zygons are in pursuit. The Doctors and their companions will be heading for the temple’s central chamber, the same as the previous Doctors and companions did.

SALVADOR
(satisfied) We’ll continue to monitor them. Everything must fall into place.

VALEYARD
What is your next objective, my dear Dark Lord?

SALVADOR
Let’s look at what’s happening back in U.N.I.T. HQ.

Salvador presses a button on a control terminal, and one of the monitor screens switches to what’s happening in U.N.I.T HQ.

VALEYARD
It appears the U.N.I.T. soldiers have diverted the Daleks and the Sontarans out of central ops. Longer than I expected, but at least they’re using their initiative.

SALVADOR
That won’t help them. (triumphantly) My master plan for all the Doctors and their friends is going according to plan. It won’t be long before the final phase of our scheme is initiated.

SCENE #186 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A
Meanwhile, in central ops at U.N.I.T. HQ, the Brigadier, Kate, the First, Second, Third and Seventh Doctors and their friends Susan, Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Zoe, Jo and Ace get in touch with Osgood via the intercom. The portal leading into zone #5 of the interdimensional network is still open in central ops, whilst Magambo and her soldiers still cover Francesca on the floor.

DOCTOR 1
So, now that our other selves and friends have gone through the portal…

BRIGADIER
(interjects) And our U.N.I.T. soldiers have diverted the Daleks and the Sontarans out of the central ops.

KATE
(relieved) Thank goodness.

DOCTOR 1
(continues) …We should join our other selves and friends in zone five, shouldn’t we? We can’t be idle and do nothing, hmm?

OSGOOD (V’O)
I need to close the portal first to check on energy supplies. It has been open for quite some time. The portal must be stable enough for you and your friends, Doctors, to enter zone five.

DOCTOR 2
(through intercom) Very well, my dear. Go ahead and do that. Let us know when you’re ready.

OSGOOD (V’O)
(reassuringly) This shouldn’t take long. Osgood out.

Osgood switches off the intercom at her end. The portal also closes shut in central ops.

DOCTOR 7
I suggest we take a look at the tracking information of our other selves and friends in zone five whilst we’re waiting.

DOCTOR 3
Agreed. They need to be moving along the right path.

KATE
The tracking information is at this terminal here, Doctor.

BRIGADIER
Mr. and Mrs. Walker and Miss Noble were using it earlier.

The Brigadier, Kate, the four Doctors and their friends make their way over to the computer terminal. Kate presses a button and switches the monitor screen back on. A moment of silence, as everyone looks at the monitor screen.

DOCTOR 2
(muses) Oh, yes. Most informative.

SUSAN
Is that how zone five is represented? Where the four future versions of grandfather and their friends are.

DOCTOR 1
Yes, Susan, my dear. You see, the outline of zone five shows that they were in what is the African-Indian jungle from two different time periods.

IAN
What do you mean ‘were in’? Where are they now if they’re not in the African-Indian jungle?

BARBARA
(realises) Ian, look. They must have entered a building.

JO
(realises) Yes, I see it too. It appears to be a temple, I think.

ACE
(eagerly) Wicked! A jungle and an abandoned temple. Can’t wait for us to get there.

ZOE
There are dots representing the other Doctors and our friends Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose on the monitor screen.

JAMIE
Aye, but there are other wee dots following the other Doctors and their friends. I don’t like the way they’re catching up to them?

JO
Can’t we see what’s happening inside the temple?

KATE
There should be probe drones in the area. We used them earlier to monitor the Doctors when they were being rescued from each interdimensional zone.

DOCTOR 3
Hold on. Let’s see if we can gain access to these probe drones to acquire the visual information we need. (to Doctor 7) Doctor, if you would.

DOCTOR 7
Of course. Now, I’ll just hang my umbrella up here. Don’t want to lose it.

The Seventh Doctor hangs his umbrella up, and begins to help the Third Doctor, as they type away at the computer terminal for zone five. A moment of silence as they type away.

ACE
What’s up, Professor? Why is it taking so long?

DOCTOR 7
It’s rather difficult with the spatial-temporal interference we have to deal with, Ace.

KATE
(surprised) Spatial-temporal interference? Osgood and her team didn’t have that trouble earlier.

BRIGADIER
Indeed. Why are we suddenly getting interference now?

DOCTOR 3
I’m not sure. It’s almost like the zone structures in the interdimensional network are destabilising.

DOCTOR 1
(realises) Yes, yes. (Pause) It’s begun! The fabric of spatial-temporal reality in this network we’re in is beginning to crumble.

DOCTOR 2
Yes, I sense it distinctly too. (Pause; thinks) Brigadier, can we access another computer terminal? One of us might be able to bring up an outline of what the outside of this network is like.

BRIGADIER
Of course. The two terminals at your left are at your disposal.

DOCTOR 2
(pleased) Oh jolly good. We only need one, thank you.

DOCTOR 1
I shall assist you, my good man.

DOCTOR 2
Oh thank you, very kind.

SUSAN
I’ll help, grandfather.

ZOE
And me too, Doctor.

DOCTOR 2
(gratified) Thank you, Susan; Zoe.

KATE
(obligingly) Here. I’ll set up the terminal for you.

As Kate helps the First and Second Doctors, Susan and Zoe, the Third and Seventh Doctors have success at their terminal.

DOCTOR 7
(cheers; triumphantly) Aha! We have a visual on what’s happening in the abandoned temple in zone five.

DOCTOR 3
(pleased) About time. The sound is off, I’m afraid, but that’s no problem. Let’s see what’s going on.

The Brigadier, Ian, Barbara, Jamie and Jo join the Third and Seventh Doctors to see what’s on their terminal screen.

JAMIE
(disgusted) Ugh. Those beasties look horrid. They don’t look friendly either.

ACE
Have you met them before, Professor?

DOCTOR 7
I’m afraid I have, Ace. They’re Zygons.

IAN
Zygons?

DOCTOR 3
And they’re right on the tails of our counterparts and friends.

The Brigadier looks at Magambo.

BRIGADIER
Captain Magambo, is Miss Francesca still down on the floor?

MAGAMBO
She is, sir. We have her in our sights. She won’t get away.

SCENE #187 – INT – CORRIDOR, TEMPLE (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
Back in zone five, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends run for their lives in a corridor in the abandoned temple with the Zygons chasing them.

DOCTOR 4
(shouts; urgently) Keep running, everyone!

DARBY
(breathlessly) What’s that, Doctor?

DOCTOR 4
(shouts; urgently) Keep running! Don’t look back, James, don’t look back!

BILLY
(encouragingly) Come on, Nyssa dear. Keep up. Just a little further.

NYSSA
(breathlessly) I know we must keep going, Billy, but you know how running isn’t really my thing.

DONNA
(encouragingly) Come on, Nyssa, you can do it. Billy and I are helping you along, see?

JEN
There must be a way to slow these Zygons down.

PERI
Yeah, there must be. We can’t keep running like this forever.

DOCTOR 6
(urgently) That’s all we can do, Peri. Keep at it down this corridor!

DOCTOR 8
(urgently) Same goes for you too, Jen. Keep running!

ROSE
(worn out) Will this tunnel ever end?

DOCTOR 9
We’ll get out of this soon, Rose. Trust me. We’ll get to the light at the end.

The Zygons snarl and growl, as they keep pursuing their fugitives.

SCENE #188 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A

IAN
They look pretty dangerous, these Zygons.

BARBARA
Let’s hope we don’t have to run into them.

JO
We may have to if we’re to save our friends.

DOCTOR 3
I fear that might be the case, Jo.

Just then, a commotion occurs, as Francesca manages to escape from Magambo and her soldiers. Francesca limps as she makes her way out of central ops.

BRIGADIER
(anxiously) Magambo, what happened? Where’s Francesca?

MAGAMBO
Apologies, sir. Miss Francesca caught us off guard somehow. She’s running out of central ops.

FRANCESCA
(shouts; from a distance) Salvador will beat you all! You’ll see! Salvador will overpower you! He is almighty! He is our saviour!

Francesca is out of central ops.

BRIGADIER
Yes, well, hopefully she won’t get far with being wounded. (briskly) Magambo, get a couple of your soldiers after her.

MAGAMBO
(barks) You two, after Miss Francesca.

Two of Magambo’s soldiers obey, as they chase after Francesca.

BRIGADIER
Also, Magambo, check the U.N.I.T. soldiers fighting the Daleks and Sontarans out of central ops. Make sure they’re keeping them out at all costs. Report if you have something urgent.

MAGAMBO
Understood, sir.

Magambo heads out. Meanwhile, the First and Second Doctors, Susan and Zoe have achieved success at their computer terminal.

DOCTOR 1
(triumphantly) Haha! There we are! We’ve done it, we’ve done it!

SUSAN
This is an outline of what’s outside the network. We happen to be in the maelstrom we fell into.

ZOE
It was all a matter of readjusting the zoom controls of the probe drones outside the network to see what’s happening, but we managed it in the end.

DOCTOR 2
The image is a bit fuzzy, I admit, but no worries. We should see clearly what’s happening outside at present. Zoe can find a way to boost up the power should we need it.

DOCTOR 1
Let’s see what we’ve got here then, hmm?

Everyone else joins the First and Second Doctors, Susan and Zoe at their terminal. A moment of silence.

DOCTOR 3
(realises; troubled) Oh no. That’s not good.

DOCTOR 1
(grimly) Indeed not, my dear fellow. (Pause) Thankfully, it’s on a low energy ratio the way it’s been compressing.

DOCTOR 2
That won’t last long though. The energy ratio will get higher the more it closes.

DOCTOR 7
(grimly) Before we know it, we’ll soon be crushed into a singularity.

ACE
Err…care to explain what you and the others are talking about, Professor?

DOCTOR 7
That interference we’ve picked up, Ace. It’s coming from what’s in the maelstrom. See the diagram?

ACE
(confused) Yeah?

DOCTOR 7
The thing at the centre. That’s the interdimensional network where we are. The bubble surrounding it is the maelstrom.

SUSAN
What’s that little object close to the network? It seems to be a box building on a rock.

DOCTOR 1
No time for that now, Susan. The point is, the maelstrom is closing. Look here. The rate is slow and steady, but soon, the maelstrom will close permanently. We’ll be sealed up inside.

DOCTOR 3
It’ll cut off our chances to escape and return to our original places and times.

JO
You mean; we won’t be able to get out of here at all and return home. You, me, the Brigadier, Kate, Mike, Benton and everyone else here.

DOCTOR 2
Once cut off from our Universe, the maelstrom will collapse, and we’ll be crushed inside like an egg.

DOCTOR 7
Whatever Salvador has in mind for us Doctors, his diabolical scheme will come into fruition. Unless we can find a way to reverse what he’s done.

JAMIE
Well, we can do that, can’t we? We can reverse what Salvador has done.

DOCTOR 2
Not here perhaps. (Pause) But there might be a way to reverse what’s been done wherever and whenever our other selves and friends have ended up.

ZOE
Then we’ll have to go through the portal once it’s open.

ACE
As soon as Osgood gives us the go-ahead, yeah.

The intercom crackles out loud nearby and Osgood’s voice comes through.

OSGOOD (V’O)
Central ops! Central ops, this is Osgood. Do you read me, over? Do you read me, over?

Kate goes over to the intercom and switches it on.

KATE
(through intercom) Kate Stewart here. Go ahead, Osgood.

OSGOOD (V’O)
We, that is Captain Yates, Sergeant Benton and I, have checked the portal gateway controls and everything is okay, ma’am. I’m going to re-open the portal. You can give the Doctors and their friends the good news.

BRIGADIER
(through intercom; pleased) Well done, Osgood. Stand by. We’ll call you again once the Doctors and their friends have gone through.

OSGOOD (V’O)
Understood, sir. Osgood out.

Osgood switches off the intercom at her end. The Brigadier and Kate turn back to the four Doctors and their friends.

KATE
Well, Doctors. I suppose you heard that.

DOCTOR 1
(gratified) We certainly did, my dear. Most excellent news!

The portal in central ops then opens up, swirling around.

DOCTOR 2
(delighted) Oh yes! Absolutely splendid. Now we can get down to business.

BRIGADIER
Doctors, perhaps some of my soldiers should join you in zone five.

KATE
Perhaps my father and I should join you.

DOCTOR 3
(interjects) Thank you, Brigadier; Kate. It’s a kind offer, but…

DOCTOR 7
(continues) …We need you to hold the fort here whilst there are Daleks, Sontarans and Autons to contend with.

DOCTOR 2
Indeed, we wouldn’t want them to pile up on the troubles we’ll have once in zone five.

BRIGADIER
Understood. Good tactical thinking, Doctors.

KATE
But surely if you’re taking your friends with you into zone five…

SUSAN
(interjects; reassuringly) It’s alright, Kate. We’ll look after them.

IAN
Yes. We’ll keep the Doctors out of trouble.

BARBARA
Besides, the Doctors wouldn’t know what to do without us.

JAMIE
Aye, that’s true. The Doctor certainly wouldn’t know what to do without me.

ZOE
Same goes for me too.

JO
And me. I wouldn’t abandon the Doctor ever.

ACE
Me neither.

BRIGADIER
Very well. Good luck to you all.

KATE
Take care, Doctors. You and your friends.

DOCTOR 1
(impatiently) Yes, yes, yes. Now come along, come along. We’ve wasted enough time. We must step into the portal immediately.

SCENE #189 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Meanwhile, in the control room aboard Salvador’s base, the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, Amy, Rory and Bill return to the Thirteenth, Fifth and Tenth Doctors, Yaz and Dan.

DOCTOR 12
So, Doctors, what have you discovered?

DOCTOR 11
And it’d better be good news because what we’ve found is even better. Or worse when you think about it.

YAZ
Apparently, most of the times and places in the interdimensional zones are from both this Universe and other Universes.

DAN
And the Doctors here seem to think Salvador is planning ‘colossal interdimensional suicide’ or something like it.

DOCTOR 12
Yes, that would suit Salvador superbly.

AMY
What else have you found?

RORY
Have you discovered something else about the interdimensional network and the maelstrom we fell into?

DOCTOR 10
Quite a lot, in fact. Salvador and the Valeyard are drawing power from this and other Universes to generate the interdimensional manipulator they’ve been using.

DOCTOR 5
And it’s not good when you consider the collision of many Universes forming into one. It would cancel the Void altogether.

DOCTOR 13
(dismayed) Has it really come to this? Has Salvador’s insanity and revenge for me come this far?

DOCTOR 12
(realises) Hold on, hold on. If the collision of Universes and draw of power from other Universes are currently happening…

DOCTOR 11
(interjects) …Wouldn’t that weaken the structure of the maelstrom? Potentially collapsing whilst we walk and talk about this base?

DOCTOR 13
(realises) Good points, Doctors.

DOCTOR 10
Let’s check the computer terminal and see.

DOCTOR 5
Agreed. A schematic of the maelstrom would be most welcome.

Everyone joins the Thirteenth Doctor at her computer terminal. She types away and a schematic of the maelstrom is brought up. A moment of tense silence.

DOCTOR 13
Is everyone seeing this on screen?

YAZ
(apprehensively) That’s the maelstrom?

DOCTOR 13
Top marks, Yaz.

BILL
(worried) Is it me or is it shrinking?

RORY
It is. Definitely shrinking. Quite slowly though.

AMY
Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

DOCTOR 5
The maelstrom’s molecular structure is currently destabilising at a slow rate.

DOCTOR 11
But it could speed up exponentially.

DOCTOR 12
(grimly) Once that happens, there’s no point of return. Salvador and the Valeyard will have succeeded in their insane endeavour.

DAN
Was this what you two Doctors wanted to show us?

DOCTOR 11
Far from it. The thing we wanted to show you is even more impressive. Or deadly.

DOCTOR 12
Come on, follow us. It’s in the other room.

DOCTOR 10
(intrigued) Other room?

DOCTOR 11
Yes, come on! You’ve got to see this!

The Thirteenth, Fifth and Tenth Doctors, Yaz and Dan follow the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, Amy, Rory and Bill, as they make their way into an adjacent room.

SCENE #190 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Inside, the Thirteenth, Fifth and Tenth Doctors, Yaz and Dan are stunned as they look around. A moment of silence.

YAZ
(mesmerised) What is this place?

DAN
(mesmerised) We can see what’s going on outside.

AMY
That’s the maelstrom we’re in, according to the Doctors.

RORY
It’s like we’re in a planetarium.

BILL
And there’s a great big sphere in the centre of the room. Almost like the Sun.

DOCTOR 13
(troubled) These cubicles contain headsets connected to the Sphere.

DOCTOR 10
This room is what I think it is, isn’t it?

DOCTOR 5
It must be. All part of the huge interdimensional manipulator stolen from Gallifrey.

DOCTOR 12
Salvador and the Valeyard have gone too far this time.

DOCTOR 11
Terrifying, isn’t it?

AMY
Care to fill us in, Doctors?

BILL
Yeah. We’re not as clued in as to what’s going on as you five are.

DOCTOR 12
This is a Sphere Room, Bill. (to Doctors 5. 10. 11 and 13) That’s what it is, isn’t it?

DOCTOR 5
Agreed.

DOCTOR 10
Definitely a Sphere Room.

DOCTOR 11
Clearly a Sphere Room.

DOCTOR 13
It’s what the Time Lords would have called them on Gallifrey when using interdimensional manipulators.

DOCTOR 12
The Sphere Room is what Salvador and the Valeyard used to summon us, our friends and the displaced spatial-temporal locations into the interdimensional network inside the maelstrom.

DOCTOR 10
Granted, they would have used two cubicles to summon us here, but it’s still deadly.

RORY
I thought the control room we were just in coordinates all that goes on in the interdimensional network.

DOCTOR 11
This is like the lasso, Rory. The Sphere Room permits Salvador and the Valeyard direct access to other Universes as well as ours.

DOCTOR 12
Two minds would be enough to summon more than one Doctor as well as our friends in their TARDISes compared to one soul in a cubicle.

DOCTOR 13
Remember when I said about there being a vast generator housing so much power? This is it.

DAN
What? This room houses the power for us to be in the interdimensional network as well as this metal box building on a rock.

DOCTOR 5
Perhaps if we’re lucky, we can use this machine to reverse what Salvador and the Valeyard have done.

YAZ
I thought you said that wasn’t possible.

DOCTOR 10
Ah, that was before. We’ve found what Salvador and the Valeyard have used to summon everyone here. We’ll need to act fast if we want to reverse what’s been done and put everything back to the way it was.

BILL
(realises) Hey, everyone. There are monitor screens in this room. They must be connected to the cubicles and the Sphere, right?

Everyone goes over to the monitor screens. A moment of silence as they examine them.

AMY
(realises) They’re showing everything that’s happening in the interdimensional zones.

DAN
Yeah, you’re right. (Pause) This monitor screen here. It’s showing the London-New York zone we were in. Me, Yaz, our Doctor, Nyssa, Billy, Donna and their Doctors.

YAZ
It’s been quite a while since we were there.

RORY
(realises) Wait, this other monitor screen here. It’s showing the temple in the African-Indian jungle.

BILL
And the monitor screen next to it is showing the African-Indian jungle itself. (Pause; realises) There are people in both locations.

DOCTOR 11
I recognise the people running in the temple. They’re being chased by Zygons.

DOCTOR 12
There’s Floppy Scarf, Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat, Wild Bill Hickok and Leather Jacket.

DOCTOR 10
(interjects) As well as James Darby, Peri, Jen, Rose… (stops; forlorn) Dear Rose. (Pause; realises) Donna’s there too!

DOCTOR 5
(realises) And Nyssa and Billy are with them. (Pause) I hope everyone will outrun the Zygons.

DOCTOR 13
Look at the monitor screen showing the jungle.

DOCTOR 12
(realises) Yes. There’s Grumpy Grandad, Clown Face, Dandy and Umbrella Man.

DOCTOR 13
They’re accompanied by our granddaughter Susan as well as Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Zoe, Jo and Ace. (Pause) They must be making their way to us aboard Salvador’s base.

AMY
How can you be sure?

DOCTOR 11
It stands to reason, Amy. The Doctors and our friends in the temple will reach the central chamber that will lead them to the quantum tunnel we were in. Hopefully it’s still open once they get there.

DOCTOR 5
Once they’re in the tunnel, they’ll make their way to us aboard Salvador’s base. The Doctors and friends in the jungle will end up doing the same thing by getting into the temple first.

DOCTOR 12
Provided they aren’t captured by Zygons of course.

DOCTOR 10
Which is why I stress we have to act fast if we want to reverse what Salvador and the Valeyard have done to put things back the way they were.

SCENE #191 – INT – CORRIDOR, TEMPLE (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
Back in the temple in zone #5, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors, Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose come to a point in the corridor where it begins to end. The Zygons are still chasing them.

NYSSA
(cries) Everyone; look ahead!

BILLY
(realises) I see it, Nyssa. A door! There must be a room behind it where we can be safe.

DONNA
Can you use your sonics to unlock the door, Doctors?

DOCTOR 8
We can try, certainly.

DOCTOR 9
It should be quick enough with us four, yeah.

DOCTOR 4
Let’s hope the door will be quick to open compared to a temple’s rear entrance.

DOCTOR 6
It’s likely the door will be open if the other Doctors got into that room before us.

ROSE
(breathlessly) Those Zygons are never gonna give up and I’m running out of breath.

PERI
(breathlessly) You’re telling me. And I’ve been trying to keep to a healthy vegetarian diet.

DARBY
Perhaps I should use my laser pistol again.

DOCTOR 4
Thank you, James, that won’t be necessary.

JEN
Yeah, we don’t want any locks broken again.

DARBY
(protests) I promise I’ll be careful.

DOCTOR 8
And we’re here at the door. Let’s use our sonics, Doctor.

Once they’ve arrived, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors take out their sonic devices and apply them to the door. Switching them on, the sonic devices buzz away. The Zygons continue to advance behind them, snarling and growling as they go.

BILLY
(urgently) Come on! Hurry up, Doctors!

DOCTOR 6
We’re doing our best, Billy. Apparently the doors seem to be quadruple-locked.

DOCTOR 9
That shouldn’t be a problem with four of our sonics on hand. If only we had more time though.

NYSSA
James, can you use your laser pistol to stun the Zygons?

DONNA
Yeah. That might slow them down.

DARBY
(cheers) Finally! A chance to use my laser pistol! (calls; to Zygons) Take this, Zygons!

Darby aims his laser pistol and opens fire. Once hit, the Zygons stagger and stumble before a couple collapse to the ground.

DARBY
(cheers) Yes!

PERI
(impressed) Excellent shots! Well done, Private!

DARBY
(pleased) Thanks, Peri. Let’s see if we can shoot some more down.

Darby opens fire again, but only a dribble of laser power fires from his laser pistol. Shaking the pistol in his hands, Darby tries to fire again. Nothing happens.

ROSE
(anxiously) What’s happening? Why isn’t your laser pistol working?

DARBY
(impatiently; to laser pistol) Work! Work, you stupid thing!

Darby bangs his pistol on a nearby wall. He tries to fire again, but still nothing.

DARBY
(annoyed) Now it’s dead.

PERI
Marvellous. A soldier now with a defunct gun.

NYSSA
The power pack your Doctor gave you must have depleted the moment you used your laser pistol to blow open the door for us to get inside the temple.

BILLY
So much for a fully-charged power pack.

JEN
Just what we need.

Darby takes out the power pack to see that it’s depleted.

DARBY
(annoyed) Useless thing.

He tosses the power pack aside. The Zygons laugh once they see this, as they get up from the floor.

STROMOS
(laughs) Such a pity. A warrior without his weapon.

KOSOL
Now you won’t be able to outrun us.

The Zygons slowly advance.

DONNA
(anxiously) They’re coming for us.

ROSE
Doctors, please say you’re able to open the door now.

Thankfully, the door to the temple’s central chamber opens. The four Doctors switch off their sonic devices once this has happened.

DOCTOR 6
(cheers; triumphantly) Excellent! We’re able to get in, everyone!

PERI
(relieved) Thank goodness for that.

DOCTOR 8
It was tricky work with unlocking the locks, but we managed it in the end.

DOCTOR 9
(urgently) Come on, everyone, inside. No dilly-dallying.

DOCTOR 4
One at a time please.

The four Doctors and their friends enter the temple’s central chamber.

STROMOS
(cries) Stop them! They’re getting inside!

KOSOL
They mustn’t lock the door on us again!

The Zygons charge forwards.

NYSSA
(anxiously; urgently) Doctors, the Zygons!

PERI
We don’t want them in here with us!

DOCTOR 9
Leave that to us!

DOCTOR 6
Reversing the polarity…now!

Switching them on, the four Doctors’ sonic devices buzz away loudly. The Zygons advance, but the door closes shut, preventing them from getting in. The Zygons snarl and growl angrily once this has happened.

STROMOS
(snarls; angrily) How could they have closed the door on us a second time! They’ll have quadrupled-locked the door on us too.

KOSOL
(realises) No matter! If we hurry, we might get to them via the other way into the central chamber! Come, my brothers, come!

With that, the Zygons follow Commander Kosol.

SCENE #192 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

YAZ
Okay, Doctors. How do we do this? How do we reverse what Salvador and the Valeyard have done?

DOCTOR 13
We Doctors will have to get into these cubicles to connect to the Sphere. That way, the link-up to every Universe will be established. (Pause) I’ll get in first. I’ll start up the process of telepathically connecting to the Sphere.

DAN
(anxiously) Are you sure about that, Doctor? This sounds dangerous.

YAZ
(anxiously) Yeah, you don’t want to cause yourself brain damage once you get into a cubicle.

DOCTOR 13
It’s not ideal, but there’s no other way. Besides, we’ll be building up on this process one at a time.

DOCTOR 12
One Doctor isn’t going to be enough to channel the mental powers required to connect to the Sphere as well as to every Universe.

DOCTOR 13
Exactly. So, after I’ve gone into a cubicle…

DOCTOR 5
…It’ll be my turn next…

DOCTOR 10
…Then my turn…

DOCTOR 11
…Then mine…

DOCTOR 12
…And I’ll be the last.

RORY
Can’t you all do this at once? Can’t you all go into the cubicles instead of going in one at a time?

DOCTOR 11
We dare not risk it, Rory. The power level generated for the interdimensional network would be potentially high. We don’t want to burn out our brains before we get the chance to reverse what Salvador and the Valeyard have done.

DOCTOR 12
Besides, we have you five to monitor our readings on the digital outputs of these cubicles. That way, we’ll be sure we’re doing this correctly and not rushing what needs to be done.

DOCTOR 10
(reassuringly) Don’t worry. We’ll guide you along as we go. We’ll take this one step at a time.

BILL
(apprehensively) Well, if you’re sure about this, Doctors…

DOCTOR 13
We can’t be sure until we’ve made a start. Come on, let’s get a shift on with getting inside these cubicles. How does one open a cubicle though?

AMY
(realises; cries) Doctors; we’ve got company!

SALVADOR
(bellows) That’s enough, Doctors! You shall go no further!

VALEYARD
This is where your trial begins its downward turn.

Everyone stops to see Salvador and the Valeyard. Tense silence ensues.

DOCTOR 13
(grimly) Salvador.

DOCTOR 12
And the Valeyard. Hiding, were you?

SALVADOR
You Doctors are so gullible.

VALEYARD
This is where our case against you will prevail.

DOCTOR 10
(insistently) This has to stop now. We need to reverse what you two have done.

VALEYARD
My dear Doctors. There’s no question of reversing what’s been done in Salvador’s name.

SALVADOR
You will enter the cubicles all at once. You will do as we bid.

DOCTOR 5
Sorry. Not going to happen.

SALVADOR
Poor choice of words.

Salvador clicks his fingers. At that moment, Cybermen march into the room. The four Doctors and their friends stand together as the Cybermen surround them.

YAZ
(shocked) Cybermen!

DAN
(shocked) I thought we dealt with this lot back in the London-New York zone.

CYBER LEADER
Cyber Units, apprehend the Doctor’s companions. The Dark Lord commands it.

CYBERMEN
(in unison) We comply.

The Cybermen grab Yaz, Dan, Amy, Rory and Bill. Crying out startled and in pain, the five friends are pulled away from the Thirteenth, Fifth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors.

DOCTOR 13
(cries) Yaz; Dan!

DOCTOR 11
(cries) Amy; Rory! Don’t panic!

DOCTOR 12
(cries) Bill, hold on!

DOCTOR 5
(insistently) Let them go, Salvador! Do what you want with us.

DOCTOR 10
(fiercely) But don’t hurt our friends!

SALVADOR
I shan’t let them go. The Cybermen are to hold them prisoner.

Yaz, Dan, Amy, Rory and Bill struggle in the Cybermen’s grasp.

AMY
(annoyed) Cybermen?! They have Cybermen?!

RORY
Has our luck really run out?

BILL
(cries; in pain) Oww! Get off, mate, you’re hurting me!

YAZ
(cries) Doctors, don’t give in to Salvador and the Valeyard’s demands.

DAN
(cries) Yeah, you five need to reverse what they’ve done.

DOCTOR 13
(pleads) Salvador, we beg you, please. Order the Cybermen to let our friends go. They mean no harm.

SALVADOR
(angrily) Anyone who is a friend of the Doctor is my enemy! (Pause) Now, you Doctors will enter the cubicles all at once. Or else the Cybermen will crush your friends’ spines.

AMY
(cries) Doctors, don’t worry about us.

RORY
(cries) Yeah, we’ve been through worse.

BILL
(cries) The lives of everyone in every Universe are more important than ours.

VALEYARD
Such devotion from your friends. (Pause) But Salvador and I know your weaknesses too well, Doctors.

SALVADOR
You can’t risk outwitting us without causing harm to your friends.

VALEYARD
It’d be too painful for you to consider.

SALVADOR
Obey our will…or let your friends suffer because of your stubbornness.

The Thirteenth, Fifth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors are grim, whilst the Cybermen hold their friends captive.

DOCTOR 13
(grimly) Well…

DOCTORS 13+5+10+11+12
(in unison; grimly) …It seems we did fall into a trap.
