It’s been a sad week this past week, as a few people have passed away recently. Two were a couple of amazing actors that I’ve enjoyed watching and listening to over the years – Tim Curry and Peter Cullen. Let me share my thoughts on these two incredibly talented actors.

My first encounter with Tim Curry was when he played Long John Silver in the 1996 film ‘Muppet Treasure Island’. For me, I easily visualise Tim Curry as Long John Silver whenever I think of ‘Treasure Island’, as he’s engaging to watch, especially with the Muppets. 😀

Last weekend, my parents and I revisited ‘Muppet Treasure Island’ on Disney+. This was before the sad news of Tim Curry’s passing happened. I’m very pleased I got to see ‘Muppet Treasure Island’ recently, and I’m looking forward to doing a quick review on it. 🙂

When I wrote my ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘Junglos 4198’, which is my sci-fi take of ‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson, I had Tim Curry in my mind when writing Lo-Jo-Sil, the sci-fi counterpart of Long John Silver. It’s so hard not to imagine anyone else playing him.

As well as ‘Muppet Treasure Island’, I’ve enjoyed Tim Curry in ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’, which I’ve made a habit of watching every Christmas quite lately. Sometimes with a pizza. 😀 And yes, it’s easy to say Tim Curry’s pronounced ‘pizza’ from viewing the film. 🙂

I’ve also enjoyed Tim Curry in films like the 1993 film adaptation of ‘The Three Musketeers’ on Disney+ as well as him voicing a character in the ‘Scooby Doo’ film ‘Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost’. Tim Curry is an actor that I won’t be forgetting in a hurry.

Peter Cullen is another special actor for me, as for many, he was well-known for being the voice of Optimus Prime, the leader of the heroic Autobots in ‘Transformers’. This was for the ‘Transformers’ 1980s TV series, the 1986 film, and the live-action ‘Transformers’ films.

He’s also been the voice of Eeyore in several ‘Winnie the Pooh’ films. This includes ‘Springtime with Roo’, which I did a full-on review on for Easter in 2025. I’ve also enjoyed Peter Cullen’s voice as Eeyore in the ‘Winnie the Pooh’ film ‘Pooh’s Grand Adventure’. 🙂

It’s very easy to regard Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime in ‘Transformers’ when he’s done a variety of voices for characters over the years, including Eeyore in ‘Winnie the Pooh’. But there’s no doubt Peter Cullen will be recalled fondly for voicing Optimus Prime.

Whilst the 1980s ‘Transformers’ TV series wasn’t my era of ‘Transformers’ as that was ‘Beast Wars’, I still regard Peter Cullen fondly for voicing Optimus Prime. He voiced a character that many will have a strong connection to from seeing a TV show in their childhood.

It’s amazing that Peter Cullen has returned to voice Optimus Prime in more iterations of ‘Transformers’, including the live-action movies – some directed by Michael Bay, some not. I salute Peter Cullen for voicing a great character. 🙂 I finish by saying, “Till all are one.”

The passing of Tim Curry and Peter Cullen has been very sad indeed, especially upon hearing about their deaths this past week. But I look forward to revisiting the projects I’ve seen and heard them do over the years. 🙂 And I hope to check out more projects they’ve done.
