8. Saving the Day
SCENE #65 – INT – OPS ROOM, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
Back in the ops room of Lonmar Station #5, the robot companions controlled by the Doctor contort in pain whilst experiencing life-like waking dreams. Whilst this happens, Jo goes over to join Darvill with Nyssa, Billy, Victoria and Ace.
JO
(whispers; urgently) “Darvill, please! If you’re with us, will you help us stop Russorg and save our Doctors please?”
DARVILL
(whispers) “Certainly! Anything to help stop this madness!”
NYSSA
(whispers) “We need to stop Russorg from controlling the Doctors in our robot counterparts. Is there a system that functions according to those parameters, Mr. Darvill?”
DARVILL
(whispers) “Russorg can only survive by being generated by a water supply containing sodium chloride.”
BILLY
(whispers) “Salt water? Like from the sea?”
DARVILL
(whispers) “Yes! If we can drain the water supply out into space, then we might have a chance to slow down her electrical charges altogether.”
VICTORIA
(whispers) “Wouldn’t that mean killing her?”
ACE
(whispers) “Look! She’s killing the Doctors already! I’d say that was murder four times over!”
NYSSA
(whispers; to Victoria) “I believe Ace is right, Victoria! It sounds cold but if we’re to save the Doctors, we have to rid her of the power supply she needs. And that means discarding the water supply she needs for electrical charges.”
BILLY
(whispers) “Then that’s what we must do!”
JO
(whispers) “But where do we start?”
DARVILL
(whispers) “I’ve got it all worked out! Now, if some of you cause a distraction…”
Meanwhile, the Doctors in their robot companions’ bodies continue to struggle gaining control over their dream-like experiences. Each Doctor in turn experiences the same dreams of their companions.
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
“Oh my word! I didn’t realise it was going to be as bad as this!” (Pause) “No! I will fight! I must fight! Must resist the urge to pull the trigger! No! I will not kill that man! Do you hear me?!”
JO/DOCTOR 3
(rambles) “Two sevens are fourteen! Three sevens are twenty-one! Four sevens…” (Pause) “No! Mustn’t think of it! Mustn’t think of the sign!” (continues rambles) “Pling! Humpty Dumpty…sat on a wall…”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“Three blind mice, three blind mice, see how they run, see how they run…” (Pause) “Oh no!” (cheerfully) “Hello robots! Come to kill me, have you?” (reacts in pain as if being shot) “Oww! That shot felt real!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
I know I said I’d done this four times over…yet it still hurts when I’m dreaming! (Pause) Nearly there! About to disable the missile! (realises) No! Try not to think of it! Must keep control! No!
Russorg laughs away, whilst the Doctors continue being in distress. The real companions watch on in horror.
JO
(cries) No! Please stop this! Take me instead! I’ll do your dirty work if you don’t hurt the Doctor!
ACE
(shouts) Leave the Doctor alone, you witch!
VICTORIA
(cries) Yes! Leave them alone, you monster!
KRIGE/RUSSORG
I do not need you any more, you pathetic anthropoids!
NYSSA
In case you hadn’t realised, Russorg! I’m Trakenite, whereas the rest of my friends are human. So I’m capable of outwitting your mind than you are of controlling the minds of the Doctors.
BILLY
That’s it, Nyssa! You tell her!
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“Oh?! And what did you have in mind to stop me, little girl of Traken?”
NYSSA
(annoyed) “Why is it people bring my size into the conversation?”
JO
“We’ll think of something! We’ll stop you! Won’t we, Billy; girls?”
Billy, Nyssa, Victoria and Ace join in with Jo, as they protest against Russorg. Russorg laughs back at them mockingly.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(mockingly) “There’s nothing you can do to stop me! Face it, you five! Your Doctors are soon to be obsolete! Their minds in the stasis chambers will burn out eventually! What can you five possibly do?!”
NYSSA
“There’s one thing that the Doctor’s taught me, as I’m sure he’s taught Ace, Jo, Victoria and my dear boyfriend Billy!”
RUSSORG
“And what is that?!”
ACE
“That’s simple, loggerhead! We improvise!”
DARVILL
(shouts) “Ace, now!”
OWEN
(calls, confused) “Mr. Darvill?! What do you think you’re doing?!”
ACE
(to Owen) “It’s simple, you jerk! We’re escaping!” (calls; to robots) “Hey! Robots! Catch!”
With that, Ace throws a Nitro-9 bomb at the robots. The robots catch it.
DARVILL
“Now, you five! Run!”
Darvill and the five companions make a run for it, as they attempt to leave the ops room.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(shouts) “Quick! Stop those people from escaping!”
Meanwhile, the robots look over the canister thrown to them by Ace.
ROBOT #E5
“What is this device?! What is its function?!”
ROBOT #F6
“I have identified it. It is the same device used to blow up…”
But the robots get blown up instantly by the Nitro-9 as it explodes. Confusion ensues as the five companions fall over. Nyssa checks on Billy before checking on Ace, Jo and Victoria.
NYSSA
“Billy?! Billy, are you alright?!”
BILLY
“I think so.”
NYSSA
“Jo; Ace; Victoria?”
JO
“I’m fine, yes!”
VICTORIA
(to Ace) “I really wish your bombs wouldn’t make such a loud noise and blow up as violently as that, Ace!”
ACE
“I should probably check the timer as well.”
DARVILL
(impatiently) “Stop babbling, you five! Let’s run!”
Darvill gets onto his feet, whilst the five companions slowly get up.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(shouts) “Quick, Owen! Stop those people from escaping!”
OWEN
(protests) “But my robots! Lonmar’s robots…”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(shouts; impatiently) “Never mind your robots, Mr. President! Get those five before they escape! Stop them! STOP THEM!!!”
OWEN
(calls; to robots) “Robots! Apprehend those escapees!”
ROBOTS
“As you command, sir.”
A number of robots advance as they attempt to apprehend the five companions escaping with Darvill. The robots manage to capture Victoria, Jo and Nyssa. The three companions struggle to break free from their captors.
VICTORIA
(cries) “Let me go! Let me go at once or I shall scream!”
JO
(cries) “Please! You can’t do this do to us!”
NYSSA
(calls urgently; to Billy; Ace) “Billy; Ace! Go with Mr. Darvill! Find the power supply to Russorg!”
BILLY
“But Nyssa…”
NYSSA
“Don’t turn back, Billy! Just keep going! I’ll see you later!”
BILLY
“But I can’t…”
ACE
“Come on, lover boy! We’ve got to keep moving like Nyssa says!”
BILLY
“No! I won’t leave Nyssa…”
DARVILL
(interjects) “I’m afraid you’ll have to, young man!”
JO
(urgently) “Please, Billy; Ace; Mr. Darvill! Run!”
VICTORIA
(urgently) “Quick! Before those robots get you!”
Billy, Ace and Darvill see the robots approach them.
ROBOT #G7
“Please do not try to escape.”
BILLY
(reluctantly; to Nyssa) “For once Nyssa, I’ll do what you say.”
ACE
“Come on! Let’s leg it, Billy.”
DARVILL
“Run! Now!”
Darvill, Ace and Billy make their escape, as they head out through the door.
OWEN
(shouts) “Come on, you robots! Don’t let them get away! Stop them!”
But the robots fail as Darvill, Ace and Billy manage to escape.
VICTORIA
(relieved) “They’ve got away! Thank goodness for that!”
JO
(to Russorg) “Your robots failed to catch them! They’ll finish you off and save the Doctors!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“It does not matter what they do! Very soon, the Doctors in your robot bodies will follow only my orders and do what I tell them! Once the robots invade Marn Prime have overthrow its cities and people, then the Doctors in your robot bodies will be sent in to carry out their missions!”
OWEN
“This is absolutely brilliant! I can’t wait! I’m so excited!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“You failed, you five loyal companions! You failed before you even started!”
STEWART
(to Owen) “Mr. President? Shall I lead a patrol of robots to recapture Darvill, the boy and the girl? They may still cause trouble you know.”
OWEN
(dismissively) “Yes, yes. Go on.”
STEWART
(to robots) “You lot! Come with me! We’re going after Darvill!”
Stewart runs on out of the ops room, whilst the patrol of robots follow after her. Meanwhile, Nyssa with Jo and Victoria step forward to the Doctors in the robot companions’ bodies.
NYSSA
“Doctor? Doctors? Can you hear me?!” (Pause) “Can you hear me?! It’s me, Nyssa! You need to listen! You have to listen if we’re going to help you!”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“So hard to control! Can’t stop myself dreaming! I’m sorry, Nyssa!”
VICTORIA
(pleads; to Doctor 2) “Please, Doctor! Listen to me! It’s Victoria! Remember all those times we’ve had with you, Jamie and me? Well I need you to help me to save you!”
JO
(pleads; to Doctor 3) “Yes! Oh please, Doctor! Don’t give up on us now!”
JO/DOCTOR 3
“I’m sorry, my dear Jo! It’s no good! She’s too strong for us! Too strong!”
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
“Oh my word! Victoria, if there’s anyway I can get through this, I could. But I don’t think I’m going to be able to make it!”
Russorg cackles out loud triumphantly, as she mocks the Doctors, in robot companion bodies, and their companions with them.
RUSSORG
(triumphantly) “You see! There’s no way you can beat my power! Russorg shall be triumphant! Russorg shall be victorious!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“Yes. And that’s something I may have miscalculated.”
The Doctors continue to contort in pain, as the dreams overcome them and Jo, Nyssa and Victoria watch them.
SCENE #66 – INT – STORE ROOM, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
Meanwhile, Darvill, Ace and Billy enter the store room on the lower levels of Lonmar Station #5. They seek to find the water supply for Russorg. They reach for what seems to be a large container. They pant as they stop for breath.
BILLY
“So…where is this water supply?”
DARVILL
“It’s here.”
ACE
“What, that’s it? Russorg’s water supply to keep her bubbling mad? Doesn’t look much.”
DARVILL
“It’s enough for what she wants. And it’s this we’ve got to get rid off!”
BILLY
“Right. Now we’ve found it, we’ve got to decide how to get rid of it.”
ACE
(confidently) “Nitro-Nine, I think.”
BILLY
“No, Ace! We’re at the bottom of the space station, I think. We’ll fall out into space if you blow your bombs here!”
ACE
“We may not, you know.”
BILLY
“Don’t you get tired of blowing things up?”
ACE
(realises) “Oh blimey! Look!”
Darvill, Ace and Billy look to see, as a patrol of robots led by Stewart approaches.
STEWART
(shouts) “There they are!”
ROBOT #G7
“We shall apprehend them.”
The robots continue to march.
DARVILL
“We mustn’t let them get in! I’ll lock them out!”
Darvill makes his way over to the door panel and presses a few buttons to lock it.
STEWART
(cries) “No, Darvill! Don’t lock that door!”
But it’s too late as the doors close, locking Stewart and the Lonmar robots outside. Stewart bangs at the door.
STEWART
(cries) “Let me in! Let me in, Darvill!”
Darvill then makes his way back to Ace and Billy.
DARVILL
“That should keep them out for a bit.”
BILLY
“Hopefully whilst we get rid of this water.” (gobsmacked) “I still don’t get it with how Russrog uses salt to keep her going! It’s amazing.”
ACE
“Never mind your fascination with it, Billy! Let’s get rid of it!”
DARVILL
There’s an air lock over there. We can suck it out into space in that.
ACE
Then let’s do it! Where are the controls for that air lock?
DARVILL
Over here!
Darvill makes his way over to the control panel for the air lock, followed by Ace and Billy. Darvill presses a number of switches and buttons to activate the controls.
BILLY
Wouldn’t we need protection suits or gas masks before opening those doors?
DARVILL
A forcefield is put in place when the doors are open. It usually happens when ships want to dock in and it saves time doing it in here rather than up on some balcony.
ACE
Sound’s wicked!
DARVILL
(realises; despairingly) Oh no! I’ve just remembered.
BILLY
(anxiously) “What? What is it? What have you forgotten?”
DARVILL
“I remembered that in order for the air lock to be opened, it needs two people to disable the lock.”
ACE
“Well that’s easy, isn’t it? Just pick me or Billy!”
DARVILL
“I mean two authorised people to disable the lock. Two people with identity tags containing chips to register their identity.”
BILLY
“One which you have of course.”
DARVILL
“Yes. And someone else. Someone who works for the President.”
ACE
(realises) “Miss Stewart. The girl outside with those robots.”
BILLY
“Yes. That is a bit tricky, isn’t it?”
Darvill, Ace and Billy turn to see Stewart continually pounding on the door with the Lonmar robots at her side, about to break in.
SCENE #67 – INT – OPS ROOM, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
Back in the ops room, the four Doctors in the robot companion bodies continue to struggle through their waking dreams.
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
“It’s no good! I can’t stop myself pulling the trigger! No! I must fight!”
JO/DOCTOR 3
“Russorg! Don’t you realise what’s happening?! If I write this sign of Jo’s, it will mean chaos for the entire cosmos!”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“This is not fair! Finding me an ally then getting killed is not fair! Why should I be the one to cover up for your dirty work as evidence?”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“I should be controlling my own plans! So I should be able to control this missile from destroying the planet! But why can’t I do that?!”
Meanwhile, Russorg is seemingly triumphant as she laughs away.
RUSSORG
(laughs) “It’s no good trying to resist, Doctors. Your companions’ robotic counterparts should override your moral functions. You cannot resist the programming of your destiny!”
Russorg continues laughing away, as the Doctors continue to struggle.
NYSSA
“No! Doctors, listen! You can overcome the logical functions of the robots! You’re far more capable! You should know that!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
JO
“Nyssa’s right! You’re Time Lords! In fact, you’re four Time Lords!”
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
(realises) “Yes!” (to Doctor 3) “Don’t you remember, dear fellow? When we fought against Omega?”
JO/DOCTOR 3
(realises) “Yes! Yes you’re right, dear chap! When it was three of us, we mind-linked in defeating him!”
NYSSA
“You see! I knew you four would have the answer! You need to mind-link in order to defeat Russorg, since you are all the same person!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“Is it possible? With our minds inside these machines?”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“Well, it’s worth a try! Let’s get started, shall we?”
OWEN
(puzzled) “What are they doing, my lady?”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(panics) “No! Doctors, don’t!”
But it’s too late, as the four Doctors in the robot companions bodies manage to regain control and start making contact with each other.
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
“Contact!”
JO/DOCTOR 3
“Contact!”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“Contact!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“Contact!”
A series of whirring sound effects take place to indicate the mind-link of the four Doctors in the four robot companion bodies (the sound effect from ‘The Three Doctors’ takes place here). After a while, the four Doctors go back to groaning and struggling to gain control, as they crumble to the floor in pain. Russorg laughs away mockingly.
NYSSA
(concerned) “Doctors? Are you alright?”
JO/DOCTOR 3
“Not enough! It’s not enough!”
VICTORIA
“What?!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“Our Time-Lord minds! They’re being pounded on!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(laughs mockingly) “Just as I thought! Your Time-Lord minds are no match for the standards of your companions’ robot bodies.”
The four Doctors in the robot companion bodies continue to struggle in pain whilst Jo, Nyssa and Victoria are puzzled.
JO
“I don’t understand! Why hasn’t it worked?”
NYSSA
“Obviously the robot bodies are blocking the mind-link. Possibly some component creating a barrier to initiate a link-up.”
The four Doctors in the robot companion bodies continue to groan in pain.
VICTORIA
(realises) “Mercy me! Doctor…Doctors? Are there any spheres inside our robot bodies that control you?”
JO
“Spheres?”
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
(realises) “I see what Victoria’s getting at!”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“Yes! There must be a processor in these robotic chest units that provide the motor power and intelligence!” (to Russorg) “Isn’t that so, Russorg?”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“What?”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“I thought as much!” (to Nyssa; Jo; Victoria) “Quickly, Nyssa; Jo; Victoria! Get the processors out of our chest units!”
NYSSA
“Right you are, Doctors!”
JO
“Quick! Before they catch us!”
Nyssa, Jo and Victoria run towards the Doctors in the robot companion bodies.
RUSSORG
(shouts; panics) “Owen! Stop those three!”
OWEN
(to robots) “Robots! Get them!”
ROBOTS
“As you command, sir.”
The robots march towards the three companions, as Nyssa, Jo and Victoria try to find the processors in the chest units of the robot companion bodies to free the four Doctors.
VICTORIA
(panics) “I can’t find it! Where is this thing?!”
JO
“I’ve found it! It looks like a black rectangle here!”
Jo shows the device to Victoria.
JO
“Something like this, I think.”
VICTORIA
(relieved) “Oh yes! I think I’ve found it now!”
JO/DOCTOR 3
“Well done, Jo!”
VICTORA/DOCTOR 2
“Yes well done, Victoria!”
ACE/DOCTOR 7
“Nyssa! You have to take the control processor out of me at the same time as your Doctor’s!”
NYSSA/DOCTOR 5
“And it would have to be done simultaneously!”
NYSSA
“I think we should take them all out at the same time!”
VICTORIA/DOCTOR 2
(worriedly) “Oh…alright then! But be very careful!”
JO
(cheerily) “On the count of three then! One; Two; Three!”
RUSSORG
(angrily; yells) “NO!!!”
But it’s too late, as Nyssa, Jo and Victoria take out the processors from the chest units of the robot companion bodies. The robot companion bodies fall to the floor unconscious with the four Doctors’ minds out of them. The three companions cheer for joy.
JO
(delighted) “We did it! We actually did it! We saved them!”
VICTORIA
(joyfully) “Oh I’m so glad!”
NYSSA
(pleased) “Well done, you two! Let’s hope the Doctors will be able to get out of those stasis chambers!”
JO
“Oh I do hope so!”
VICTORIA
“Me too!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(angrily; to Nyssa; Jo; Victoria) “You meddling miscreants! You’ve ruined everything! NOW YOU’VE MADE ME MAD!!!” (shouts; to Owen) “OWEN?!!”
OWEN
“Robots! Seize them!”
Before realising it, Nyssa, Jo and Victoria get captured by robots again.
JO
“Meanwhile for us…”
NYSSA
(grimly) “Yes. I’m sorry about this, Jo; Victoria. The odds are against us again.”
VICTORIA
(distressed; wryly) “Oh how perfect.”
Nyssa, Jo and Victoria ponder what to do next, whilst Russorg grows angrier.
SCENE #68 – INT – STORE ROOM, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
In the lower levels of Lonmar Station #5, Stewart and the Lonmar robots manage to break into the store room where Darvill, Billy and Ace are. Stewart charges her laser pistol at Darvill, Billy and Ace with the robots behind her.
STEWART
“There they are! Shoot if they try to escape!”
ROBOTS
“Yes, Miss Stewart!”
The robots charge their arm-like energy weapons whilst Stewart approaches Darvill, Billy and Ace.
STEWART
“You three are coming with us back to the main control room!”
BILLY
(pleadingly) “No wait! Please! You must listen to us!”
STEWART
“My robots will destroy you if you try to do anything!”
ACE
(shouts) “Will you just listen to us, you dumb-bell?! Billy’s dead right! You have to listen to what we’ve got to say!”
STEWART
(considers) “Very well. But be quick!”
BILLY
“You have to help us! We need you and Darvill to send this water supply of Russorg’s out into space!”
STEWART
“Are you both bonkers?”
DARVILL
“The air-lock doors require a two-person authorised signature with our tags, Jess. If you and I use our tags, then we can open the air-lock.”
ACE
“Then we should be able to send the water out and stop Russorg.”
STEWART
“You three must be seriously low-minded!”
BILLY
“This is serious! Please help us!”
STEWART
“Do you really think I’m going to listen to you?! You’re coming with us!”
ACE
“Get real, will you?! Do you really want to spend your life working for some fat lady blob?!”
STEWART
(adamantly) “You three are coming back with us!”
Darvill steps forward to Jess.
DARVILL
(gradually) “Jess! Listen to me!”
STEWART
“Stay where you are, Darvill.”
DARVILL
“Very well. But listen!” (Pause) “People will die if you refuse to help us. Or at least people will suffer because of you.”
STEWART
“Is this your way of trying to scare me?!”
DARVILL
“Not at all. I’m trying to save your life!”
STEWART
“Save my life?”
DARVILL
(gradually) “People will be very disappointed if they find out you were the one who failed to stop Russorg.” (Pause) “I will be disappointed.”
STEWART
“You would?”
DARVILL
“Yes.” (Pause) “I need you, Jess Stewart! I need you to help me! Help me save the day while there’s still a chance! Tell your robots to stand down! Help me get this air-lock open!” (Pause) “Please!”
Moment of silence ensues, as Stewart reconsiders her actions.
STEWART
(confused) “I…I’m not sure what to do.”
Meanwhile, Ace whispers in Billy’s ear.
ACE
(whispers) “I think Darvill’s getting through to her!”
BILLY
“Yeah. But is she with us?”
Ace and Billy continue watching, whilst Darvill persuades Stewart to help them.
SCENE #69 – INT – OPS ROOM, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
Back In the ops room, Owen attempts to reinitialise the disabled robot companion bodies back to life. But it’s no use, as Owen turns back to Russorg.
OWEN
“It’s no good, my lady. The robots are completely disabled. The Doctors must have managed to get out of those stasis chambers in time.”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“This is insufferable! And I was so close! I can’t believe it!”
JO
“You don’t know how pleased we are to hear that!”
NYSSA
“Your dreams of conquest and the dreams you put into our minds to make us do your dastardly tasks have ended!”
VICTORIA
“So no more hurting anybody! That’s good, isn’t it?!”
Russorg lets out a cry of rage.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(enraged) “If the Doctors have managed to escape, they will be apprehended! Then they will be brought back here! And I shall destroy them!”
NYSSA
“No! You can’t do that!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“They have ruined my plans of conquest! For conquering Marnlix space! They shall die for what they have done to me! Then chaos will ensue!”
JO
(cries) “No! Kill me instead! The Doctor’s a good man – all of them! Take my life for all of them!”
VICTORIA
“And my life!”
NYSSA
“And mine!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“That would be a joy to spring on! But I have in mind to kill you all!” (to Owen) “Even you…Owen!”
OWEN
(shocked) “Hey whoa, wait a minute! I’m on your side! I worked for you!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(yells; angrily) “And you have failed me, you worthless idiot of a man! I have had enough of all of you! I hate you all! I may have failed in my mission! But I still have the sodium chloride in me to let off electricity! I still have power!”
Russorg lets out sparks of electricity with a cheer of triumph, intending to destroy all in her path. This lasts for about eight seconds…until the electricity goes out of her and she stops. Russorg is confused. She tries again to let electricity out. But only a few sparks come out.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(confused; angrily) “What?! What is this? Where’s my power gone? Someone’s taken it away from me!”
VICTORIA
“What’s just happened? Russorg was illuminating the whole room with light and now it’s all gone dark!”
NYSSA
“Perhaps things are working in our favour!”
JO
“Oh I do hope so!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(angrily) “What’s happening?! Who has done this to me?!” (Pause) “My salt water supply! Somebody’s tampered with my salt water supply!”
At that moment, Stewart, Darvill, Ace and Billy enter with the Lonmar robots behind them.
DARVILL
“That would be us I’m afraid, Lady Russorg.”
ACE
(gloats; to Russorg) “Not so tough now, are you?!”
BILLY
(calls) “Nyssa? Are you and the others alright?!”
NYSSA
(relieved) “Billy! Thank goodness you’re alright!”
OWEN
(surprised) “Miss Stewart? What’s the meaning of this? I told you to apprehend Mr. Darvill and the others!”
STEWART
“Sorry, Mr. President. But I changed my mind.”
OWEN
“What?!”
STEWART
“I decided to help Mr. Darvill and the others. I helped them to open the air-lock and send Russorg’s salt water supply out into space!”
ACE
“And it’s good timing when she changed her mind!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“What?! You’ve…betrayed me?! YOU’VE BETRAYED ME!”
STEWART
“I don’t want to work for you anymore, your ladyship! I don’t work for a psychopathic alien monster like you! I want to have my own life! To be happy and carefree! I’m not going to have you spoil it!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“You can’t do this to me!”
DARVILL
(defiantly) “Face it, Russorg you creep! You’ve lost!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(to robots) “Robots! The ones who went with Miss Stewart! Kill them all! The Doctor’s companions, Darvill and Miss Stewart! Kill them I say!”
The robots however refuse to comply.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(shouts; to robots) “Kill them I say! I order you! Do it!”
Still no response.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
“What’s the meaning of this?! What have you done to these robots?!”
DARVILL
“I changed their programming so that they would only follow orders commanded by me and no-one else!”
OWEN
“How can you possibly do that, Mr. Darvill? Why do it?! Against your her ladyship for crying out loud?!”
DARVILL
“Oh didn’t you know, Mr. President? I’m a secret agent!”
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(enraged; to other robots) “Other robots! The ones not under Darvill’s control! Kill them all!”
ROBOTS
“We comply.”
The robots under Russorg’s command march forward, charging their arm-like energy weapons. They approach the five companions with Darvill and Stewart.
DARVILL
“My robots! Prevent those robots from killing us! Defend us!”
ROBOTS
“As you command, Mr. Darvill.”
Darvill’s robots led by Robot #G7 march forward towards Russorg’s robots led by Robot #H8 to defend the five companions, Darvill and Stewart. Both robot factions stop and face each other.
ROBOT #H8
“Move out of the way.”
ROBOT #G7
“We shall not.”
ROBOT #H8
“You are in our line of fire. Let us pass.”
ROBOT #G7
“You shall not hurt them. Mr. Darvill has commanded us to defend these people.”
ROBOT #H8
“If you do not move, you will be incinerated.”
ROBOT #G7
“And if you do not back away, you will be destroyed.”
ROBOT #H8
“So be it.”
ROBOT #G7
“So be it.”
The two robot faction charge their arm-like energy weapons and aim at each other, ready to fire.
ROBOT #H8
“Goodbye.”
ROBOT #G7
“Goodbye.”
The robot factions open fire and all-out battle ensures. Shots of fire spread out across the room, causing the five companions, Darvill and Stewart to duck.
DARVILL
“Duck! All of you!”
Victoria lets out a scream as the two robot factions fire at each other.
RUSSORG
(yells; enraged) “Do not fight each other! Kill them! Kill the Doctor’s companions!”
The two robot factions fail to listen to Russorg, as they keep on firing at each other.
RUSSORG
(yells) “Did you not hear what I said?! Do not fight in here!”
The battle still continues, as robots get blown up and disintegrated by each faction’s firepower. The five companions, Darvill and Stewart watch as the battle progresses.
ACE
“Wicked! This is more like it! Robots fighting each other! I’m loving this!”
Darvill then runs off.
STEWART
“Roy! Where do you think you’re going?!”
DARVILL
“Stay with the girls and the boy, Jess! I’ll be back! I know what I’m doing!”
Darvill heads off whilst Stewart remains with the five companions.
BILLY
“Russorg seems to be really ticked off now!”
JO
“Yes! And her lair’s about to blown up by those robots!”
The robot factions continue fighting each other, as bits of the ceiling fall in and parts of walls crumble apart.
RUSSORG
(enraged) “No! This can’t be the end! Not the end of Russorg! I was going to achieve so much! And look where it’s ended!”
Meanwhile, Darvill brings back President Owen with him as he returns to Stewart and the five companions.
OWEN
(protests) “Let go! Let go of me at once, Mr. Darvill!”
STEWART
“Roy?! Where have you been?!”
DARVILL
I’ve had to pick up the President.
ACE
What did you have to bring him for?!
DARVILL
This place is about to be blown up! And so is Russorg! I don’t want the President dead! Especially as I intend to arrest him!
OWEN
You what?!
NYSSA
Darvill’s right. We can’t leave him here. He may have done bad things, but we have to rescue him.
JO
Then we’d best get out of here at once! This whole room’s going to fall apart!
VICTORIA
I agree! Let’s go!
STEWART
“We must head for the transporter room and beam down to Lonmar! This space station is going to blow itself apart as well as this room!”
NYSSA
“Yes! Quick as we can!”
Consoles and electrical equipment explode. This gives everyone a fright.
BILLY
“I can see a door a few metres away from us!”
DARVILL
“Out that way then! Come on!”
The five companions, Darvill and Stewart with Owen make their escape, as they head for the door Billy’s spotted. The two robot factions continue to fire at each other, whilst Russorg cries out in rage at what’s just happened and she begins to weaken.
KRIGE/RUSSORG
(enraged; upset; weakly) “I’m dying! My life has ended! I’m weakening too fast!” (Pause) “No! I can sense it now! The robot starship fleet is being destroyed! So will this space station!” (screams) “I, RUSSORG WILL NOT DIE!!! I CANNOT DIE!!! NO!!!”
Eventually, Russorg finds herself caught in a wreath of fire as the ops room explodes.
SCENE #70 – INT – MAIN STATION HALL, LONMAR STATION #5 – N/A
Meanwhile, in the main station hall of Lonmar Station #5, the four TARDISes detach themselves in four points in time. They eventually dematerialise, just in time before the main station hall gets blown up too. The voices of the four Doctors echo as the TARDISes dematerialize (refer to Scene #70B)**.
SCENE #71 – EXT – ORBIT OF LONMAR, LONMAR SPACE – N/A
Eventually, Lonmar Space Station #5 gets blown up and explodes. A wave of energy spreads across space, as shattered fragments scatter across the stars.
SCENE #72 – EXT – ORBIT OF MARN PRIME, MARN SPACE – N/A
The same thing happens to the Lonmar robot invasion fleet attacking Marn Prime. It gets destroyed by incoming Marnlix ships that overpower them. The Lonmar ships get destroyed, as a computer voice speaks out…
COMPUTER VOICE
“Priority alert. Robot space fleet being destroyed. Invasion aborted. Invasion aborted. Invasion…”
Eventually, the Lonmar robot invasion fleet blows up in space and fragments scatter across the stars.
SCENE #73 – INT – CITADEL LOUNGE, PRESIDENTIAL QUARTERS – DAY, AFTERNOON
On Lonmar, the five companions, Darvill and Stewart with President Owen beam into the citadel lounge of the presidential quarters in the main citadel. Staggered, they take in their surroundings to see where they are.
JO
“Have we beamed in safely? I’m not sure what happened.”
VICTORIA
“I recognise this place. It looks familiar.”
ACE
“I know this place too. It’s not…”
BILLY
“It’s the citadel lounge within the presidential quarters. We were brought here when we arrived on Lonmar.”
NYSSA
“Yes, it’s all coming back to me. We’ve arrived safely in the presidential quarters.”
DARVILL
“It’s morning outside! Everything’s safe!”
STEWART
“Thank goodness!”
JO
“What about the space station? What became of that?”
NYSSA
“Blown up in space, I believe. Debris will soon enter the planet’s atmosphere. There might be a possible shudder as we stand here…”
The room then shakes slightly and everyone becomes startled.
NYSSA
“I thought as much.”
VICTORIA
“And Russorg? What’s become of her?”
BILLY
“Hopefully dead and gone. Along with that explosion. She won’t get much salt water. The robots managed to tear the place down.”
ACE
“Good riddance to them, hey!”
Just then, the sound of four TARDISes materialising echo nearby.
VICTORIA
(joyously) “Do you hear that?”
NYSSA
(pleased) “Yes! I can see them too! Outside! There are four TARDISes materialising outside!”
JO
(happily) “It’s the Doctor! The Doctors! They’ve come for us!”
BILLY
“The TARDISes detached themselves then!”
The five companions rush to the window in the citadel lounge. They see for themselves as the four TARDISes arrive.
ACE
“Dead right they have! The Doctors managed to escape the stasis chambers!”
NYSSA
(realises) “No! Wait! Those were later versions of the Doctors, Ace. The Doctors in these TARDISes are the earlier versions. They won’t know what’s happened to us! They just think they’ve come to rescue us in the nick of time!”
VICTORIA
“Then what of the later Doctors? The ones that took control of our robot bodies. Where are they?”
JO
“Safe and sound, I hope.”
NYSSA
Yes. I hope so too.
Whilst the five companions watch the four TARDISes land with thumps outside, Darvill turns to President Owen.
DARVILL
(to Owen) Mr. President! As chief of Lonmar security, I place you under arrest! You have committed a number of crimes in alliance with an alien being who was intent on destroying the world!
OWEN
(shouts; protests) You can’t arrest me, Darvill! I am your president!
DARVILL
You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say will be taken down and used as evidence against you!
OWEN
(to Stewart) Miss Stewart! Make Mr. Darvill stop this!
STEWART
“Sorry, Mr. President. You have yourself to blame.”
Owen remains angry, whilst the five companions address Darvill.
NYSSA
“Thank you very much for helping and saving us, Mr. Darvill. We really appreciate it.”
ACE
“Yeah thanks a lot, mate. You did us proud.”
DARVILL
“It’s my pleasure. After all, I wouldn’t want to give a bad impression on five legends.”
JO
“We couldn’t have done it without you, Mr. Darvill.”
BILLY
“Nor you, Miss Stewart. We’re glad you changed your mind about us.”
STEWART
“I certainly did change my mind about someone, Mr. Walker.”
DARVILL
“Steady, Miss Stewart. We’re still on duty, remember?”
VICTORIA
“Do you think we should go out and see how our Doctors?”
NYSSA
“Yes! Let’s go and see our Doctors. They’re probably waiting for us.”
The five companions make their way out of the citadel lounge to meet their Doctors. Darvill and Stewart meanwhile continue to attend to President Owen.
SCENE #74 – INT – STREET #44, CENTRAL CITY – DAY, AFTERNOON
Hours later, the five companions are in the streets of Lonmar where the four TARDISes are parked. They’re now saying goodbye to each other as they’re about to leave.
BILLY
“I wish we had more time to get to know each other.”
ACE
“Hey, you’re not the only one. I’ve grown to really like you lot. Never knew the Doctor has such good friends.”
VICTORIA
“He has good tastes, I think.”
JO
“He certainly has.”
NYSSA
“I think it would be nice if we spent another day getting to know each other. But I think our Doctors will be getting anxious about leaving, since they wish not to disrupt the timelines with four TARDISes in the same place and time.”
BILLY
(amused) “Surely they must know that they always disrupt the timelines.”
VICTORIA
“On saying that, I can’t wait to see Jamie and my Doctor again. I suppose we’ll be going off fighting another set of monsters wherever we end up. It always seems to be Earth where we go at the moment.”
JO
“Earth’s mostly where my fun is. I’d probably be finding myself at U.N.I.T HQ with the Brigadier, Sergeant Benton, Mike Yates and the Doctor. I wonder what alien invasion will be waiting for me when I get back. Of course, the Doctor wants me to see…Metebellis Three, I think he called it.”
ACE
“Well, I know I’m definitely going back to the Professor. He’s been really crafty lately. He’s been testing me. Done that recently when we visited Perivale and dealt with Fenric. He must have some ideas about where to go next, but I guess they may get cancelled.”
BILLY
“Well, Nyssa and I are hoping to finish our Christmas holiday in Nodnol before we get back to the Doctor. And oh I’m longing for rest! We never stop to take a break. We always seem to get caught up in something dangerous.” (to Nyssa) “Don’t we, Nyssa?”
NYSSA
“Yes! That’s what comes with travelling with the Doctor, Billy.”
BILLY
“I know. But we still manage to get on well, don’t we?”
NYSSA
“Yes, we do. I hope it will remain that way when we get back and carry on travelling with the Doctor.”
At that moment, the doors of the four TARDISes open. The four Doctors call out to their companions.
DOCTOR 2
(calls) “Victoria? Victoria?”
DOCTOR 3
(calls) “Come on, Jo!”
DOCTOR 5
(calls) “Nyssa; Billy! We have to go now! Time is pressing!”
DOCTOR 7
(calls) “Hello, Ace! In you get! The tea’s getting cold and we’ve got work to do!”
The doors of the four TARDISes close shut again. The five companions say one last goodbye to each other, hugging each other as they do so.
VICTORIA
“Oh well. I suppose this is it.” (Pause) “Goodbye, Jo; Nyssa; Billy; Ace.”
BILLY
“Yeah goodbye, Victoria.”
JO
“Goodbye, Nyssa; Billy. Goodbye, Ace; Victoria.”
NYSSA
“Goodbye, Jo. Goodbye, Victoria; Ace.”
BILLY
“Bye, Ace; Jo.”
ACE
“Yeah good luck, you lot! Hope we’ll see each other again soon!”
NYSSA
“That may not be likely, you know. We may not see each other again.”
JO
“Maybe not. But I live in hope.”
BILLY
“So do I”
VICTORIA
“Me too.”
ACE
“And me.”
NYSSA
“Yes. I live in hope too.”
Eventually, the five companions go into each of their TARDISes. Victoria rejoins the Second Doctor and Jamie, Jo rejoins the Third Doctor, Nyssa and Billy rejoin the Fifth Doctor and Ace rejoins the Seventh Doctor. The TARDISes’ doors close shut simultaneously. One by one, each of the four TARDISes dematerialise. They leave Lonmar, as they set out into the time vortex on different time-streams and journeys, separating and never seeing each other again.
SCENE #75 – INT – CITADEL LOUNGE, PRESIDENTIAL QUARTERS – DAY, AFTERNOON
Back in the citadel lounge of the presidential quarters on Lomar, Roy Darvill and Jess Stewart watch as they see the four TARDISes dematerialise and ‘take off’. Once they’ve gone, Darvill and Stewart look fondly at each other.
STEWART
“They’ve gone now, Roy. They’ve left this world behind forever.”
DARVILL
“Yes. Thank goodness the crisis is over.”
STEWART
“Do you regret what you did while they were here?”
DARVILL
In kidnapping them, yes. In helping them by the end, never. They’re five of my favourites. And I’m glad to have met them.
STEWART
They certainly had an impact on me.
DARVILL
But I’m even more glad that I’ve been able to see the light of someone special standing right next to me.
STEWART
Well then. We better not waste time.
Darvill and Stewart eventually leave the citadel lounge, happily walking out to spend time together.
SCENE #76 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
VICTORIA (V’O)
(narrates) It was strange at first. Finding myself back with the Doctor and Jamie. After all I’d been through with four different people. “Been having fun have you, Victoria lassie?” Jamie asked, quite teasingly. I giggled, thinking that it was like I’d never left them. They’d been so worried about me, including Jamie, that I didn’t know whether they’d believed what I’d been through or who I’d met. But the Doctor tried to reassure me as he always did, to keep the memories as beloved and as important to me for as long as I lived. I told them a little bit about what happened; being honest in that I didn’t quite know what had happened for half the adventure. Jamie told me not to get too worked up about it and the Doctor, as always, knew how I felt and made sure I never forgot the people I found as my new friends. For, as he used to say, and I’d never forget his words…
DOCTOR 2
“Our lives are different to anybody else’s! That’s the exciting thing! There’s nobody in the universe can do what we’re doing!”
SCENE #77 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
JO (V’O)
(narrates) “I felt a little sad after leaving my new found friends. I told the Doctor about them and all that had happened. He wanted to show me new worlds and new places since he got me back into that TARDIS of his. But I wasn’t ready for another adventure yet. I was still recovering from the last one. And I said goodbye to a good number of friends who’d gone off with their Doctors. I told him I wanted to go home. I was tired. He smiled at me reassuringly and said…”
DOCTOR 3
“Home it is, Miss Grant.”
JO
(narrates) “I smiled at him happily, knowing that he would take me home where I belonged. Earth. I’d missed it so much. I knew how important it was for me to return.”
SCENE #78 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
In the Fifth Doctor’s TARDIS, Nyssa and Billy stand about in the console room whilst the Doctor works at the controls.
BILLY
“Will that really be the only time we’ll see Victoria, Ace and Jo? I was getting used to the idea we’d make a good team.”
NYSSA
“So was I, Billy. I was thinking we might have more adventures together.” (knowingly; to Doctor 5) “But I suppose that’s hardly likely to happen is it, Doctor?”
DOCTOR 5
“I’m afraid not, Nyssa; Billy. I’ve had so many companions in my life-times. And I’ve had so many fond memories of them…that I tend to forget to look back. I forget to check up on the friends I’ve made and the friends that I’ve lost.”
BILLY
“Is that likely to happen to us, Doctor? When Nyssa and I leave, would you forget [us…?]”
DOCTOR 5
(interjects) “It’s likely, Billy. I’m sorry. It can’t always be the three of us. I always move on.”
NYSSA
“There’s no need to apologise, Doctor. You’re a Time Lord. You travel forever. And we’ll stay with you for as long as it lasts.”
BILLY
“Yes. To keep the memories alive and kicking. To have more good times together. Like you had with your other friends.”
DOCTOR 5
“And I wouldn’t say “No” to you for staying with me, Nyssa; Billy. You’ve been good company for me.”
NYSSA
“We try our best.” (to Billy) “Don’t we, Billy?”
BILLY
“Yeah. We sure do. It’s swell I think.”
DOCTOR 5
(gradually) “So…where to next I wonder.”
The Doctor sets the TARDIS controls, whilst Nyssa and Billy look on.
SCENE #79 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
In the Seventh Doctor’s TARDIS, the Doctor and Ace gather around the console as they set about on their next adventure.
ACE
“You rescued us in the end, you know.”
DOCTOR 7
“Did I now?”
ACE
“It was a while after you rescued us first time that you rescued us again. If that makes any sense.”
DOCTOR 7
“Possibly?”
ACE
“Isn’t that what you’re going to do now?”
DOCTOR 7
“I think a detour around the universe should be taken first before we decide whether I need to rescue you five again or not.”
ACE
“What? You’re saying you’re not going to rescue us?”
DOCTOR 7
“I don’t see why not. Besides, what’s the rush? You’re here. You don’t need rescuing yet.”
ACE
“I may do. I may fade out of existence for all you care.”
DOCTOR 7
“Perhaps you’re right. I should rescue you.”
ACE
“But then…I suppose…”
DOCTOR 7
“What?”
ACE
“It would be a bit boring to do it now anyway.”
DOCTOR 7
“You’re probably right, yes.”
ACE
“Perhaps after a few more trips in the TARDIS or after I’m gone you can do it.”
DOCTOR 7
“I don’t see why not.” (Pause) “I’ll put it in my alarm clock to remind me when the time comes. Then I’ll contact my other selves.”
ACE
“You’ll probably forget it.”
DOCTOR 7
Yes, I may well do that. That’s why it’s good to give myself a reminder.
ACE
It’s good to be back with you, Professor.
DOCTOR 7
It certainly is, Ace. It certainly is. (Pause) Come on! We’ve still got work to do!
The Doctor then sets the controls as the TARDIS away, with the time rotor going up and down. The Doctor and Ace set off on their next adventure.
