SCENE #83 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
It’s late afternoon. In the control room of the Almighty Dalek, the Black Dalek addresses Mrs. Shearman.
BLACK DALEK
“DALEK UNITS HAVE DETECTED THE DOC-TOR IN PROXIMITY.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Send some Dalek units to destroy him! I have a world to conquer! I don’t have the time to spend with him!”
BLACK DALEK
“THE DOC-TOR HAS RELEASED OMEGA TEMPORAL PARTICLES FROM HIS TARDIS!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice; realises) “Omega temporal particles? They’re essential to the Daleks!”
BLACK DALEK
“CORRECT! IT WOULD BE OF GREAT VALUE TO ACQUIRE THESE PARTICLES! THE DALEKS WILL BECOME INVINCIBLE! WE WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE EARTH IN SECONDS!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Instead of plundering and destroying the cities of Earth over a numbers of days.” (laughs) “Yes, I see it now! We cannot let the Doctor get away from us so easily.”
BLACK DALEK
“YOU INTEND TO PURSUE THE DOC-TOR AND HIS TARDIS?”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “All the Daleks shall pursue him! All Dalek units are to converge on the Doctor! Including us! The Almighty Dalek shall pursue him and his TARDIS!”
BLACK DALEK
“RED DALEK! SEND OUT INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL DALEK UNITS TO PURSUE THE DOC-TOR AND HIS TARDIS! THE ALMIGHTY DALEK COMMANDS IT!”
RED DALEK
“UNDERSTOOD! ALL DALEK UNITS ARE TO CONVERGE ON THE DOC-TOR!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Well, Doctor. The chase is on!”
Mrs. Shearman laughs away, as she pilots the Almighty Dalek out of Earth’s atmosphere and after the Doctor in his TARDIS.
SCENE #84 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
NYSSA
“Doctor, she’s taken the bait! Mrs. Shearman is chasing us in the Almighty Dalek ship. In fact, all the Daleks are pursuing us!”
DOCTOR
“As anticipated. She’s commanded all her Dalek forces to chase after us! I knew Mrs. Shearman and her Daleks would find us irresistible.”
NYSSA
“They’re converging on the TARDIS!”
DOCTOR
“Then we must get the TARDIS well away from Earth. Off towards the moon as soon as possible!”
NYSSA
(puzzled) “The moon? Why take the TARDIS to the moon?”
DOCTOR
“That’s where our final showdown will take place.”
BILLY
“Remind us again, Doctor – or remind me – why do we have to keep these lateral balance cones levers up? My hands are getting tired holding them up!”
NYSSA
“You have to keep at it, Billy. Don’t let go of them just yet.”
DOCTOR
“She’s right, Billy. Nyssa has to hold down the dimensional stabilisers and you have to hold up the levers for the lateral balance cones simultaneously.”
NYSSA
“If you let go of the levers, Billy, then the TARDIS will be sucked into a black hole or something worse.”
DOCTOR
“And we’d probably find ourselves back in the Middle Ages in the place where you used to know as Churchwood. You wouldn’t want that to happen, would you?”
BILLY
“No! No, of course not! Right! Keeping these levers up like you said!”
DOCTOR
“Good, Billy! Now, hold on tight to the levers! And I mean real tight this time!”
BILLY
(confused) “Why?”
NYSSA
“Because we’re going to the moon, Billy.”
BILLY
“What, right now?”
NYSSA
“Yes, right now! Isn’t that right, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“Yes, Nyssa! We’re off to Earth’s moon now!”
With that, the Doctor pilots the TARDIS to the moon with everyone else holding on.
SCENE #85 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
RED DALEK
“THE TARDIS IS HEADING FOR EARTH’S MOON!”
BLACK DALEK
“EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!!!”
RED DALEK
“CANNOT EXPLAIN. INSUFFICIENT DATA TO FORM A SATISFACTORY ANALYSIS.”
BLACK DALEK
“UNACCEPTABLE!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “It does not matter. We shall meet the Doctor there! We shall pursue him to the ends of time if we have to! We shall acquire the Omega temporal particles from the Doctor’s TARDIS!”
BLACK DALEK
“IT COULD BE A TRAP!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Of course it’s a trap! But we are superior! We shall defeat the Doctor with our new ideology! The Daleks with the human factor intergrated into their being are invincible! And I am almighty! All praise to the Almighty Dalek!”
BLACK DALEK
“YES!” (chants) “ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK! ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK!”
DALEKS
(chants) “ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK! ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK! [ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK…]
RED DALEK
“DALEK UNITS RESPOND TO YOUR ORDERS, GREAT ONE!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “EXCELLENT! LET US ADVANCE THEN! ADVANCE! ADVANCE!! ADVANCE!!!”
BLACK DALEK
(chants) “ALL DALEK UNITS ADVANCE! ALL DALEK UNITS ADVANCE!”
DALEKS
(chants) “ALL DALEK UNITS ADVANCE! ALL DALEK UNITS ADVANCE! [ALL DALEK UNITS ADVANCE…”]
Mrs. Shearman laughs away, as she continues to pilot the Almighty Dalek ship to chase after the Doctor’s TARDIS.
SCENE #86 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD STREET, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
On Earth, everyone in Churchwood Street watches to see the Almighty Dalek take off and leave for Earth’s moon. Everyone cheers with delight to see the Almighty Dalek leave, including David MacDonald, the little boy and the little girl.
DAVID
“See, kids? See them go? The Daleks are leaving us! Good riddance to them!”
LITTLE GIRL
“I’m so glad they’re leaving! How come they’re leaving?”
LITTLE BOY
“I saw a blue box! There must be people inside it! They must have saved us!”
LITTLE GIRL
(cheers) “Yes! Go, blue box people! You go, blue box people!”
DAVID
“Yes, go to it, you blue box people whoever you are!” (puzzled) “Was there a blue box up there?”
Meanwhile, Enid and Fred have returned to Churchwood. They pant for breath, as they’ve been running away from the Santa Dalek from earlier.
FRED
(pants) “I…I think…we gave that Santa Dalek the slip. Thank goodness…for that. I believe…we managed…to dodge it.”
ENID
(pants) “I don’t think…we needed to, Fred. The Santa Dalek…seemed to be on its way…into outer space. I just saw it…along with some other Daleks. They went up into the sky.” (realises) “Look! Look up there! See?”
They look up to see the Daleks going off into outer space.
FRED
(pants) “So they are! They’re all heading…off into outer space. Including that giant…almighty one. Off to the moon…by all accounts.”
ENID
(pants; exhausted) “I have to sit down. I’m flat out…on my feet.”
With that, Enid sits down on the pavement to catch her breath. Fred sits beside her to recover as well. They both look up to see the Daleks going off into outer space.
FRED
“Our boy’s up there, Enid. Our boy’s grown up to be a fighter. With his friends in a silly blue police box. How quaint is that?”
ENID
(gradually) “I’ve been wrong about her, Fred. About Nyssa. I’ve said things about her that I shouldn’t have said. Only because I love Billy.”
A moment of silence ensues.
FRED
(gradually) “Our boy has to move on with his life, Enid. Leave the nest as it were. We all knew that would be coming.”
ENID
“Yes, but…I didn’t think it would be so soon. He’s still young, you know.”
FRED
“Then this is probably something he needs to help him grow up. Getting married to Nyssa is telling us that.”
ENID
“And Nyssa, Fred. Will our Billy be happy with her? Will he be happy with the one he loves forever and forever?”
FRED
“I don’t see how he couldn’t be. They’re both fond of each other. They spark off each other very well. I think Billy and his new future wife will have a happy life together, despite the ups and downs they’ll have. They’re bound to settle somehwere, despite the space-time travel nonsense they have with the Doctor.”
ENID
“I hope so, Fred. I really hope so. It’s just…” (trails off; Pause) “…I hope I’ll get to say sorry to Nyssa for all the things I’ve said to her. I hope she’ll forgive me.”
FRED
“I’m sure she will, Enid. She is a lovely person after all.”
ENID
“Yes.” (Pause) “We’re going to miss him. Our little boy.”
FRED
“Yes. That is true.” (Pause) “But we’ll have each other, won’t we, dear?”
Enid and Fred embrace each other whilst sitting on the pavement. Eventually, they get up from the ground to rejoin everyone else.
DAVID
(cries) “Hey, everyone! Something’s happening! The Almighty Dalek thing and that blue box! They’ve just stopped!”
LITTLE GIRL
“They’re hanging above the moon! Everyone, see it! The giant Dalek and the blue box are facing each other above the moon!”
LITTLE BOY
“There’s going to be a fight! The Daleks and the blue box people are going to fight each other!”
DAVID
“Who are those people in that blue box? Are they mad?”
ENID
“They’re not mad, mister! That’s my son up there! My son Billy, his fiancée Nyssa and…”
FRED
“…and the Doctor! That blue box of theirs is called the TARDIS. Those three people are fighting the Daleks and saving the world!”
Everyone watches to see the final showdown about to take place.
SCENE #87 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
In the TARDIS, the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy set everything steady in motion, whilst in orbit above the moon.
NYSSA
“Doctor, we’re stable. We’re in a stable orbit above the moon!”
BILLY
“And in the pale moonlight!”
DOCTOR
“Right! Hold on tight, you two! Nyssa, on my first command, open the TARDIS’ interior doors wide! Billy, on my second command, press the blue button to extend the shield barrier around the TARDIS exterior.”
BILLY
Right.
NYSSA
Doctor, you’re not actually going to use the inter-dimensional interocitor to release Omega temporal particles onto the Daleks, are you? The TARDIS will become vulnerable once you did that, and in the possibility that this plan of yours won’t work.
DOCTOR
Have a little faith, Nyssa. I’ve switched off the machine for now, but I will have to use it again in case of insurance.
NYSSA
But why do you want me to open the TARDIS’ interior doors wide for you?
DOCTOR
For me to face Mrs. Shearman of course. I would dearly like to have a talk with her. (Pause) Now, open the doors for me please, Nyssa.
NYSSA
(reluctantly) “Yes, Doctor.”
With that, Nyssa opens the TARDIS interior doors. As the interior doors open wide, the Doctor makes his way over to the doorway to look out and speak to Mrs. Shearman in the Almighty Dalek ship.
NYSSA
“Steady, Billy. Steady with those levers for the lateral balance cones.”
BILLY
“I’m keeping steady, Nyssa!”
SCENE #88 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – N/A
In the Almighty Dalek ship, the Black Dalek addresses Mrs. Shearman.
BLACK DALEK
“WE HAVE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “About time and all.”
RED DALEK
(panics) “ALERT! ALERT! PROXIMITY ALERT!!!”
BLACK DALEK
“WHAT IS THE MATTER?”
RED DALEK
“AN AUDIENCE IS EXPECTED!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Audience? Who can that be, I wonder?”
RED DALEK
“HE WISHES TO TALK TO US! OBSERVE!”
The Red Dalek shows Mrs. Shearman and the Black Dalek who their audience is on a nearby scanner screen.
BLACK DALEK
“HE IS A FOOL TO SPEAK TO US FROM INSIDE HIS TARDIS!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Fool or not, I’d like to hear what he has to say!”
BLACK DALEK
“MRS. SHEARMAN…!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice; interrupts) “I have commanded! LET US FACE HIM!!!!!”
SCENE #89 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
The Almighty Dalek ship adjusts and turns around to face the Doctor, who stands in the doorway of his TARDIS in orbit of the Earth’s moon. Also in the TARDIS are Nyssa and Billy, who watch as the Doctor confronts Mrs. Shearman inside the Almighty Dalek ship.
BILLY
(whispers) “I hope the Doctor knows what he’s doing.”
NYSSA
(whispers) “He wouldn’t have led us this far if he didn’t, Billy.”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Shearman’s voice echoes from the Almighty Dalek ship.
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(echoes; with Dalek voice) “At last! The moment I’ve been waiting for! The Doctor! Greatest enemy of the Daleks! And with his young friends to support him! Typical! You endanger so many of your friends’ lives into territories of death! And that’s me on loud speakers for the whole universe to hear!”
DOCTOR
(calls) “Mrs. Shearman! I’m giving you one last chance! A chance to redeem yourself!”
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(echoes; with Dalek voice) “Me? A chance to redeem myself! Who says I need redemption? You’re just so afraid of me and my power, aren’t you!”
DOCTOR
“Yes! Yes, Mrs. Shearman, I am afraid! I’m afraid that your power will destroy you! Destroy your living mind! Your conscience!” (Pause) “I’m offering you the chance to redeem yourself! Let go off this urge to kill and destroy all human life! Let the innocent live!”
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(echoes; with Dalek voice) “I have great power! The opportunity to control a new empire with my Daleks to serve me! Why would I give up all that for the sake of so many puny human lives?”
DOCTOR
“Because if you don’t, I will stop you!”
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(echoes; with Dalek voice) “Are you such an idiot that you think you can oppose me?!”
DOCTOR
(grimly) “Yes! I am an idiot! An idiot with a blue box and my friends at my side. That’s all I ever need. And that’s better than you ever will be.”
A moment of tense silence ensues. Soon, the Doctor raises the inter-dimensional interocitor and aims it at the Almighty Dalek ship.
BILLY
(shocked) “Doctor! You’re about to use that inter-thingy device on her!”
NYSSA
(cries) “Doctor, no! You can’t!”
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(echoes; with Dalek voice; barks) “Daleks! Exterminate!!!”
DALEKS (V’O)
(chants) “EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE…”]
DOCTOR
“I’m sorry, Nyssa and Billy. I have to do this!”
Very soon, the Doctor opens fire, using the inter-dimensional interocitor, and unleashes the Omega temporal particles onto the Almighty Dalek ship with Mrs. Shearman and the Daleks aboard.
SCENE #90 – EXT – EARTH’S MOON, OUTER SPACE – N/A
In orbit of Earth’s moon in outer space, the energy fired from the Doctor’s inter-dimensional interocitor inside the TARDIS onto the Almighty Dalek ship is there for everyone, including those on planet Earth, to see. The energy fired from the TARDIS doesn’t seem to have any effect on the Almighty Dalek ship though. Soon, the Doctor stops firing the interocitor device.
SCENE #91 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – N/A
Aboard the Almighty Dalek ships, Mrs. Shearman and the Daleks hear Nyssa, Billy and the Doctor via the intercom.
NYSSA (V’O)
“Is that it? Have you done it, Doctor?”
BILLY (V’O)
“But…nothing’s happened! It didn’t do anything! The Daleks and Mrs. Shearman are still with us!”
RED DALEK
“THE DOC-TOR HAS FAILED!”
BLACK DALEK
“HIS EFFORTS TO DEFEAT US HAVE FAILED!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Hear that, Doctor? My Daleks are calling you a failure! Whatever you did to us doesn’t seem to have worked! Predictable! You’re so weak in thinking you can destroy the might and the supremacy of the Daleks!”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“I wasn’t trying to kill you. That would have been too easy for me.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(loses Dalek voice) “It does not matter. You are a failure! The Daleks have won!”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“I was trying to save you, Mrs. Shearman. And you have been saved. And for that, I’m truly sorry.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(puzzled) “What?”
NYSSA (V’O)
(realises) “You did something to her, Doctor. Tell us what you’ve done.”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“Simple really. I fired the Omega temporal particles upon Mrs. Shearman inside the Almighty Dalek. All the time vortex energy is inside her head. She’s been filled with it.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(triumphantly) “Then you have given us a gift, Doctor! A Christmas gift for the Daleks! To have power and control over space and time…”
DOCTOR (V’O)
(interrupts) “I allowed the time vortex energy to enter inside of you so that you could see. To see into your future. To free your mind. Allow it open…just for a moment.” (Pause) “A moment…to allow you to see who you are.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(puzzled) “W-W-What?” (Pause) “W-W-What are you saying?”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“Listen to yourself, Mrs. Shearman. Where’s that Dalek voice of yours? You’re no longer in control. You’ve lost control of the Almighty Dalek ship and your servants.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(stammers) “I…I…”
BLACK DALEK
“WHO ARE YOU? WHAT ARE YOU? WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?”
RED DALEK
“ANSWER! ANSWER!! ANSWER!!!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(puzzled) “I…I…I don’t..don’t…”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“Look at yourself, Mrs. Shearman! See yourself in the future! See what you’ll become! The chaos and the horror created by you, if you continue in your league with the Daleks.” (Pause) “See yourself…in your future!”
A moment of tense silence ensues.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(gasps) “No! No!” (cries) “NO!!! NO!!! I will not! I will not! I WILL NOT!!!” (screams) “NO!!!!!!!!!!”
BILLY (V’O)
(puzzled) “Doctor, what’s happening? What’s happening to her?”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“I’m so sorry, Mrs. Shearman. I’m so, so sorry.” (Pause) “But I had to let you see this the hard way.” (Pause) “Free yourself, Mrs. Shearman! Redeem yourself! Redeem what you’ve done… before you become the Almighty Dalek forever.”
Another moment of tense silence ensues.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(cries) “I will not…I will not…I will not…NO!!!”
BLACK DALEK
(barks) “SHEARMAN! YOU WILL CEASE!!!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(screams) “NO!!!!!!!!!!!”
BLACK DALEK
(barks) “YOU WILL CEASE! CEASE!! CEASE!!! CEASE!!!!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(screams) “Die, Daleks! DIE, DALEKS!!! DIE!!!! DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
RED DALEK
(panics) “NO! SHE CANNOT DO THIS! WE WILL NOT BE EXTERMINATED! WE WILL NOT…”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(chants; fiercely) “EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!!!! EXTERMINATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
BLACK DALEK
“WE WILL NOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
DALEKS
(chants; panics) “WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE!!! WE CANNOT DIE…ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Inside the Almighty Dalek, everything explodes. The Daleks, the control panels, and everything else that’s Dalek-related explodes within seconds. The Daleks shriek and writhe in agony once they’ve been blown up. Mrs. Shearman remains alive in her control chair, as she screams her head off.
SCENE #92 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Inside the TARDIS; the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy watch as the Almighty Dalek is being destroyed in outer space in orbit of Earth’s moon. Mrs. Shearman continues to scream her head off.
NYSSA
(confused) “Doctor, what’s happening?! How come Mrs. Shearman is destroying herself, the Daleks and the Almighty Dalek ship?”
BILLY
(confused) “Yeah! Has she had a change of heart?”
DOCTOR
“Don’t you two get it? Mrs. Shearman’s seen her own future! She’s seen what will become of her if she continues to be the Almighty Dalek.”
NYSSA
(realises) “And it was too much for her to contemplate when you broke the Dalek conditioning! In the moment when you unleashed Omega temporal particles onto her!”
BILLY
(amazed) “That’s incredible!”
DOCTOR
“Yes. But Mrs. Shearman will kill herself unless we help her.”
BILLY
“Help her?! You want to help a mad woman inside a giant Dalek ship?”
NYSSA
(realises) “A giant Dalek ship that’s about to plummet to Earth! Look! It’s spiraling out of control! It’s heading into Earth’s atmosphere!”
DOCTOR
(realises; urgently) “So it is! Nyssa, keep holding down the dimensional stabilisers! Billy, keeping holding up the levers for the lateral balance cones!” (Pause) “Hold tight! We’re heading back to Earth!”
With that, the Doctor pilots the TARDIS to chase after the Almighty Dalek ship, as it’s about to plummet into Earth’s atmosphere.
SCENE #93 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD STREET, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
On Earth, in Churchwood street in Cardiff, everyone sees the Almighty Dalek falling to Earth.
DAVID
(amazed) “They’ve done it! Those blue box people up there have done it! They’ve stopped the Daleks!”
LITTLE GIRL
(pleased) “Yippee! I’m glad they sorted them out!”
LITTLE BOY
(panics) “But now that giant Dalek is falling to Earth! It’s going to crash!”
DAVID
(realises; panics) “Oh no! You’re right, so it is! It’s going to fall! Oh no! What are we going to do?!”
FRED
(shouts) “Quick, everyone! Run!”
ENID
(shouts) “That’s right! Everyone, run!!!”
Everyone runs and scatters, screaming for their lives, attempting to avoid the Almighty Dalek as it’s crashes down to Earth. Meanwhile, in the sky, as the Almighty Dalek falls, the TARDIS materialises alongside, spiralling downwards.
SCENE #94 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
In the control room of the Almighty Dalek, Mrs. Shearman sobs her heart out, having lost control of the ship. The Doctor then interrupts her via the intercom.
DOCTOR (V’O)
“Mrs. Shearman! Mrs. Shearman, please listen to me! You’ve got to stop the Almighty Dalek ship from crashing to Earth! You’re going to kill millions of innocent people if you let it fall to Earth!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(sobs) “I’ve lost everything! Everything I’ve ever dreamed of! It’s all gone! GONE!!! How am I to live with myself? My life has ended!”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“So will millions of other people’s lives if you don’t stop the Almighty Dalek ship from crashing to Earth! You’ve got to stop it falling, Mrs. Shearman! You’ve got to! You’re the only one who can stop it!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(bitterly) “Why should I? Why should I save the lives of other people when I’ve lost everything?! Everything!!!”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“You’re still on your way to becoming the Almighty Dalek, Mrs. Shearman! You’ll kill many innocent people if you don’t stop the ship from falling!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(startled; confused) “I…I…Is that what will happen? Will I continue to be the destroyer of so many lives and be the Almighty Dalek forever if I don’t stop the ship from falling?”
DOCTOR (V’O)
“Of course, Mrs. Shearman! But you can stop it happening! You’re the only one who can redeem yourself! Stop this from happening!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(gradually) “Then…that is what I shall do! I shall do it in order to redeem myself! Thank you, Doctor! You have…given me something to live for!”
DOCTOR (V’O)
(slightly impatient) “No problem, Mrs. Shearman. Now do it! Stop the ship from crashing to Earth before it’s too late!”
Eventually, Mrs. Shearman manages to regain control of the Almighty Dalek ship for a second.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(gradually; screams) “Emergency temporal shift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
SCENE #95 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD STREET, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
Above Churchwood Street in Cardiff, the Almighty Dalek falls to Earth, before it starts to disappear. The ship eventually vanishes at Mrs. Shearman’s command, sent off into the time vortex without a trace. The TARDIS soon stops plummeting and spirals in mid-air. Once the Almighty Dalek ship is gone, silence ensues.
SCENE #96 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Inside the TARDIS, the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy sigh with relief, having seen the Almighty Dalek ship vanish into the time vortex.
DOCTOR
(relieved) “The TARDIS is on its way back to Churchwood Street now. You can let go of your levers now, you two.”
Nyssa lets go off the dimensional stabilisers whilst Billy lets go of the levers for the lateral balance cones.
BILLY
(relieved) “She did it! She actually did it!”
NYSSA
(relieved) “She redeemed herself! She saved so many lives on the planet Earth by sending herself and the Almighty Dalek ship into the time vortex!”
DOCTOR
“And the Daleks have finally been defeated. Once again, I’ve managed to defeat my deadliest foes.”
BILLY
“Along with us. Don’t forget that. Nyssa and I helped.”
DOCTOR
Of course. I never would have done this without you two.
NYSSA
Will Mrs. Shearman be alright, Doctor? She’ll be spiralling aimlessly throughout time and space, heading for who knows where and on an endless journey.
DOCTOR
Who knows, Nyssa. (Pause) At least we’ve given her ‘her freedom’. The freedom she could only ever have.
A moment of silence. Eventually…
NYSSA
(realises) What’s that sound? Do you two hear it?
BILLY
Yes, what is that?
They listen to the sound more carefully.
DOCTOR
(gradually; realises) “That, Nyssa and Billy, is the sound of an applause!”
The Doctor, Nyssa and Billy eventually look out through the TARDIS doors to see a crowd of people in Churchwood Street in Cardiff applauding and cheering for them.
BILLY
(realises; amazed) “They’re cheering for us! Down on Earth in Churchwood Street! They’re cheering for us as heroes!”
NYSSA
“Yes! I see your mum and dad, Billy! As well as everyone else in Churchwood!”
DOCTOR
“You know, I never expected a huge turn out as this.”
SCENE #97 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD STREET, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
In Churchwood Street, everyone continues to applaud and cheer whilst the TARDIS is in mid-air. David, the little boy, the little girl, Enid and Fred are delighted as they join in the applause.
LITTLE GIRL
(cheers) “They did it! They did it! They defeated the Daleks!”
LITTLE BOY
(cheers) “They saved us! They saved our lives! They’re my heroes!”
DAVID
(amazed) “This has got to be one of the most spectacular Christmas displays I’ve ever seen in years!”
ENID
(relieved) “Oh I’m so glad they’re alright! Billy up there with Nyssa and the Doctor. They saved us, Fred! Everyone on Earth! They saved us!”
FRED
“Yes, Enid, they did. They most certainly saved us from the Daleks!”
Fred then gets up on top of a nearby box and speaks out to the crowd.
FRED
(calls) “Ladies and gentlemen; boys and girls; everyone gathered here! My son is up there! My son and his wonderful friends, Nyssa and the Doctor! The three of them have saved many lives; many worlds across eons of time and space! Our son Billy has fought Daleks before with his best friends! And never, never, ever have they been appreciated. But not today! Those three are the ones who have saved Christmas Day for all of us! And I say, thanks to those three!”
ENID
(cheers) “Three cheers for our son Billy, his fiancée Nyssa and the Doctor! Hip, hip…”
EVERYONE
(cheers) “…Hurray!!!”
ENID
(cheers) “Hip, hip…”
EVERYONE
(cheers) “…Hurray!!!”
ENID/FRED
(cheers) “Hip, hip…”
EVERYONE
(cheers) “…Hurray!!!”
Everyone keeps on cheering “Hip, hip, hurry!!!” to the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy in the TARDIS whilst Enid and Fred stop. They soon see the TARDIS spiraling away, whilst acknowledging the praise from the crowd in Churchwood Street.
ENID
(pleased) “That’s our son up there, Fred! Our brave, brave son!”
FRED
(pleased) “Yes! Well done, Billy! Well done, Nyssa and the Doctor!”
Feeling happy, Enid and Fred continue to watch the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy flying off in the TARDIS.
SCENE #98 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Inside the TARDIS, Nyssa, Billy and the Doctor are equally pleased with their success and the praise they’ve recieved in Churchwood Street.
NYSSA
“They’re really pleased we saved them!”
BILLY
“And so they should be! We saved them all from the horror of Dalekmania!”
DOCTOR
“Yes! Christmas is back on track!” (Pause) “Everyone on Earth is bound to forget this incident ever happened.”
NYSSA
“Humanity moving on, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“Humanity moving on, Nyssa. And so should be the way.”
NYSSA
“They’ll probably forget we saved them too, I suppose. We should be thankful that the people in Churchwood are currently grateful we saved them.”
BILLY
“I don’t understand why you’re putting yourselves down, you two! We’re heroes on Christmas Day! Let us enjoy it for a bit!” (Pause) “I feel very lucky to be with you two! I’m the luckiest man ever to be with my two favourite people in the universe!”
DOCTOR
“Well, I’m pleased you’ve found your time with us well-spent, Billy.”
NYSSA
“Me too. We’re so lucky to have you with us, sweetheart.”
BILLY
(gradually; delighted) “I love you so much, Nyssa!”
NYSSA
“And I love you too, Billy dear!”
A moment of silence ensues.
BILLY
“Marry me, Nyssa!”
DOCTOR
“Yes! We’ve defeated the Daleks! You two can get on with your wedding arrangements…”
BILLY
(interrupts) “No, no, I mean….marry me today, Nyssa! Today! On Christmas Day!”
NYSSA
(surprised) “Today?!”
DOCTOR
“But today’s nearly over, Billy. It’ll soon to be evening.”
BILLY
(happily) “I don’t care about that. I want to marry you today, Nyssa, because I love you so much! I don’t want to wait any longer!”
NYSSA
“Billy, we haven’t finalised the wedding arrangements. We haven’t sent out the guest invitations. We have no buffet or flowers.”
BILLY
“We can sort out the formal ceremony in the New Year. I’m sure Mum and Dad won’t mind. They can be our guests whilst the Doctor gives you away. And as far as the buffet is concerned, we can have Christmas dinner when we get back to my parents’ house. And we can get flowers from one of Mum’s vases back at the house. They’re pretty flowers and I know you’d like to have them at our wedding at the church.”
DOCTOR
“Would the vicar mind being interrupted over Christmas, Billy?”
BILLY
“He can do a little wedding service for us for half an hour, can’t he? And what better way to have a wedding at Christmas time? I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. It’s a terrific idea, isn’t it?”
NYSSA
(laughs) “You’re crazy, Billy.”
BILLY
“Does that mean you’re saying ‘yes’ to us getting married today?”
A tender moment of silence ensues.
NYSSA
(delighted) “Oh, Billy! It’s a wonderful idea, and I say ‘yes’! Yes, I will marry you today, Billy!”
Nyssa happily embraces Billy and they kiss each other.
NYSSA
“I know what to wear for my wedding when we get back to Earth.”
BILLY
“And I have my suit and tie to wear. Nothing fancy, but it should be appropriate.”
NYSSA
“What about you, Doctor? What will you wear at the wedding?”
DOCTOR
(gradually) “I’ve a few things to sort out first before I can attend the service. Don’t worry, you two. You carry on without me. I promise not to be too long.”
With that, the Doctor makes his way around the console. Nyssa and Billy watch him.
NYSSA
(saddened) “Of course, Doctor. Take your time with what you have to do.”
BILLY
(saddened) “Yeah. No problem, Doctor. You come when you can.”
Just then, the TARDIS lands with a loud thump and a ding.
DOCTOR
“Aha! We’ve arrived! Well Nyssa and Billy. You’d better go and attend to your wedding!”
SCENE #99 – INT – ST. MARK’S CHURCH, CHURCHWOOD STREET – DAY, EVENING
That Christmas evening, at St. Mark’s Church in Churchwood, Nyssa and Billy’s wedding takes place. Billy is at the front with his mum Enid, whilst Nyssa is at the back with Fred, acting as the bride’s father. The vicar is at the front with Billy and his mum Enid.
VICAR
“Are you ready, young man?”
BILLY
“Yes! Sorry for interrupting your Christmas, Vicar. It’s just…”
VICAR
“No need to apologise, Billy. I’m happy to spare some time to perform a little wedding ceremony like this at Christmas.” (calls; to Nyssa) “Are we all ready, back there?”
Nyssa feels nervous, as she turns to Fred.
NYSSA
“Thank you for being the father of the bride, Fred. I’m sure Billy appreciates you doing this for me.”
FRED
“That’s alright. Are you sure you want to go through with this?”
NYSSA
(gradually) “Yes. I’m sure, Fred. It’s just…” (sighs) “I wish the Doctor was here. Billy and I wanted it so much that he give me away at the wedding.” (Pause) “But I suppose…”
At that moment, the Doctor enters.
DOCTOR
(cheerily) “Hello, Nyssa! Not missed anything, have I?”
NYSSA
(pleased) “Doctor, you’re here! Oh I’m so pleased that you came.”
DOCTOR
“Yes, sorry for being late. I had to look my best for the occasion. This is the only set of clothes I could find.”
NYSSA
(laughs) “The cleanest cricket outfit and biege coat you could find in the TARDIS wardrobe, I suppose.”
DOCTOR
“Of course!”
FRED
“And in answer to your question, Doctor, we’ve only just started. You haven’t missed anything.”
DOCTOR
(pleased) “Ah! Excellent! Splendid!” (Pause) “Err, Fred, I hope you don’t mind, but I’m giving Nyssa away at the wedding.”
FRED
“Of course, By all means, take over, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
“Thank you.” (to Nyssa) “That is, of course, if you still want me to give you away, Nyssa.”
NYSSA
“Doctor, I couldn’t be happier.” (Pause) “Let’s get started, shall we?”
SCENE #100 – INT – ST. MARK’S CHURCH, CHURCHWOOD STREET – DAY, EVENING
A little while later, Nyssa and Billy come to the vows.
VICAR
“William Thomas David Walker. Do you take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, in love and honour, in sickness and in health; for as long as you both shall live till death do you part?”
BILLY
(happily) “I do.”
VICAR
“Nyssa Traken. Do you take this man to be your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, in love and honour, in sickness and in health; for as long as you both shall live till death do you part?”
NYSSA
(happily) “I do.”
A moment of silence ensues.
VICAR
“The rings?”
NYSSA
“Billy, the rings!”
BILLY
“The rings? Oh err…”
DOCTOR
(interjects) “It’s alright, Billy. I have them here.”
Billy turns to the Doctor, as he hands him over the rings.
DOCTOR
“I brought them on my way here. As a Christmas present to you both.”
BILLY
(pleased) “Thank you, Doctor! Thank you so much!”
Happily, Billy turns back to Nyssa. They both place the wedding rings on each other’s fingers in the presence of the vicar, the Doctor and Billy’s parents.
BILLY
“With this ring, I thee wed. For better or for worse, till death do us part. Amen.”
A moment of silence ensues, as Billy places his wedding ring on Nyssa’s finger.
NYSSA
“With this ring, I thee wed. For better or for worse, till death do us part. Amen.”
Another moment of silence ensues, as Nyssa places her wedding ring on Billy’s finger.
VICAR
“In the presence of God and the congregation gathered today, I declare you both husband and wife.” (to Billy) “You may kiss the bride.”
Without hesitation, Billy happily kisses Nyssa and embraces her. The Doctor, Enid, Fred and the vicar clap in applause. Enid cries her heart out with Fred comforting her.
FRED
“Now, now, Enid. Don’t upset yourself. You’ll ruin your face.”
ENID
(sobs) “I’m just…so happy, Fred. Our son married. It’s amazing! Isn’t it, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“Yes, Enid. It truly is amazing. Absolutely splendid.”
As everyone applauds, Nyssa and Billy share an intimate moment with each other.
BILLY
(happily) “Well, Nyssa dear. We’re married!”
NYSSA
(happily) “Yes! Are you happy now, you silly Billy?”
Nyssa and Billy laugh before they kiss each other again.
SCENE #101 – INT – DINING ROOM, NO. 8 – DAY, EVENING
Back at the Walkers’ house, the newly weds Nyssa and Billy, the Doctor and Billy’s parents are having Christmas dinner in the dining room. They’re celebrating Christmas as well as Nyssa and Billy’s wedding. They pull crackers and laugh out loud as they tell each other’s jokes from the crackers.
FRED
“Who delivers presents to baby sharks at Christmas?”
DOCTOR
“I don’t know, Fred. Who delivers presents to baby sharks at Christmas?”
FRED
“Santa Jaws!”
Rueful laughter ensues.
ENID
“It’s amazing how these people get paid to write these jokes for Christmas crackers, isn’t it?”
BILLY
“I know some jokes!”
NYSSA
(ruefully) “Do you, Billy?”
BILLY
“Yes! Here’s one!” (clears throat) “If you’re ever feeling peckish, always take a calendar with you.”
NYSSA
(puzzled) “A calendar?”
BILLY
“Yes! They’ve got some delicious dates in them.”
More rueful laughter ensues.
NYSSA
“You and your jokes, Billy.”
BILLY
“I knew you’d like that one.”
Nyssa and Billy laugh together, before Billy brings Cuddles up onto the dining table.
BILLY
(as Cuddles) “Wuff; wuff!”
NYSSA
(delighted) “Oh, Cuddles! Come to wish us a Happy Christmas, have you?”
BILLY
“Or maybe he’s come to congratulate us on our wedding!”
Nyssa and Billy laugh some more whilst playing with Cuddles. Meanwhile, Enid and Fred speak to the Doctor.
FRED
“Doctor, what about those Mechanoid robot things? What became of them? Last we saw of them, they were fighting the Daleks.”
DOCTOR
Ah, that was one of the things I needed to sort out as well as getting Nyssa and Billy a wedding present in the form of their wedding rings. I’ve sent the Mechanoids back to where they came from. The planet Mechanus. The ones I could find, mind you.
ENID
And the Briggs and Shearman’s toy factory? What will become of that?
DOCTOR
Bankruptcy. The world will likely cover up the Dalek story with some hoax invasion and then declare that the Briggs and Shearman’s toy company went into administration. That’s usually the sort of thing they put in the papers these days.
FRED
Will our son and new daughter-in-law be happy though, Doctor? Will they last forever, do you think?
A moment of silence ensues.
DOCTOR
(gradually) Oh I expect they will. I never like to make future predictions though. Especially for the ones I hold dearest in my two hearts.
At that moment, they’re interrupted, as Nyssa and Billy look out of a nearby window.
BILLY
(cheers) “Hey, look! It’s snowing outside!”
NYSSA
“And the stars are out! Brightly shining for everyone to see!”
BILLY
“We must go outside! It’s a great night to be out at Christmas time! Especially a White Christmas!”
NYSSA
“And it’s a great night to be out on our wedding!”
SCENE #102 – EXT – BACK GARDEN, NO. 8 – DAY, EVENING
In the back garden of No. 8, Churchwood Street, Nyssa and Billy are outside. The Doctor joins them whilst Enid and Fred stand nearby. They look to see the snow falling and the stars shining brightly in the sky.
BILLY
“Isn’t this lovely? To see the snow falling! And on our wedding night at that!”
DOCTOR
(grimly) “I’m afraid this isn’t snow, Billy. This is fragments of destroyed Daleks compensating with the Earth’s atmosphere.”
NYSSA
(realises) “Dead Daleks crumbling into dust, as they break into Earth’s atmosphere and freeze over.”
DOCTOR
“Exactly.”
BILLY
(saddened) “Oh.” (Pause) “Oh, that’s rubbish.”
DOCTOR
(gradually) “This will last for a long while, I’m afraid. All over the world. It’ll be claimed as one of the longest snowstorms ever in Earth history.”
NYSSA
“Is that true?”
DOCTOR
“Could be. I don’t know. I lose track. But it fits, don’t you think?”
NYSSA
“Well, at least it’s a White Christmas of sorts.”
BILLY
“I wanted to be like Bing Crosby. Sing ‘I’m dreaming of a White Christmas’. Not a ‘dirty and rusty’ Christmas.”
Nyssa giggles at that and Billy joins in.
NYSSA
“You know we have a lot to prepare?”
BILLY
“With the actual formal wedding ceremony?”
NYSSA
“Apart from that. We need to sort out our home life. Where we’re going to live. How we’re to spend the rest of our lives together.”
BILLY
“Well, we could sort that out after our honeymoon.”
NYSSA
(surprised) “Honeymoon? We have a honeymoon to look forward to?”
BILLY
“Mm-hmm. I arranged it with the Doctor. He’s going to take us to our honeymoon destination via TARDIS.” (to Doctor) “Isn’t that, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“Absolutely, Billy. Whenever you and Nyssa are ready.”
NYSSA
(intrigued) “I’m intrigued, Billy. Where is it we’re going? Where’s our honeymoon going to be?”
BILLY
“Ah! That’ll be a surprise.”
NYSSA
(happily) “Alright then. I’ll look forward to be surprised.”
BILLY
“Speaking of home life, we can always take that little house we used to stay at in Swansea in the year twenty-twelve. You know, where Cuddles came to life that one strange Christmas.”
NYSSA
“How could I forget? Actually, I liked how we spent our time in that little house in Swansea, twenty-twelve on Earth. I would like to do it again. Perhaps on a more permenant basis.”
DOCTOR
(sadly) “I take it this is goodbye then.”
A moment of solemn silence ensues.
NYSSA
(gradualy) “Why does this have to be goodbye?”
DOCTOR
(sadly) “Because you’re making plans on settling somewhere. Honeymoon; house in Swansea. It’s pretty clear to me that you two have your own lives to sort out on where you want to go and what time you want to spend it.” (Pause) “I assume these plans of yours involve leaving me and the TARDIS too.”
BILLY
“We haven’t settled on anything.”
NYSSA
“It’s true, Doctor. Billy and I, we want to sort out lives together. We want to settle in a time and place and have our married life together.”
BILLY
“But we wouldn’t leave you so abrupty. We still want to travel with you for a bit. We want to see new times and places, including the honeymoon destination you’re taking us to.” (teases) “You’re not getting rid of us that easily.”
DOCTOR
(stunned) “Do you really mean that?”
NYSSA
“Of course, Doctor! You mean so much to us! We want to spend the last number of adventures with you before we settle down somewhere. We don’t want to let you go so quickly.”
BILLY
“And we don’t intend to. You’re a big part of our lives, Doctor. No matter what you seem to think.”
DOCTOR
(gradually; delighted) “Well, Nyssa and Billy. I’m absolutely delighted.” (Pause) “I’m so glad to be a part of your lives, the pair of you. If I ever had companions who were the best of friends in the TARDIS, I’m glad it’s you two. I really mean that.”
NYSSA
“We’re so pleased to hear it, Doctor.”
BILLY
(happily) Well, here’s to some more future travels together. In married life…
NYSSA
And in New Years to come.
DOCTOR
Yes. (ruefully) Especially the New Years!
The Doctor, Nyssa and Billy laugh happily, whilst standing about in the back garden and looking up at the stars in the sky, with the ‘snow’ continuing to fall to the ground.
NYSSA
The stars are so bright tonight! I’ve never seen them like that before.
BILLY
(sing-song) I’ve only eyes for you, Nyssa dear.
NYSSA
(amused) Is that a song from one of your favourite films, Billy?
BILLY
(giggles) Yes.
Nyssa and Billy laugh together for a bit.
BILLY
(happily) Merry Christmas, Nyssa.
NYSSA
(happily) Merry Christmas, Billy.
Nyssa and Billy kiss.
NYSSA
(to Doctor) Merry Christmas to you too, Doctor.
DOCTOR
(to Nyssa; Billy) Merry Christmas indeed, Nyssa! Merry Christmas to you too, Billy. (to you) And incidentally…a Merry Christmas to all of you at home!
