7. Counteracting the Daleks
SCENE #69 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD STREET, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
On Earth in Cardiff, the Almighty Dalek arrives. The people in the city shout and scream once they see the Almighty Dalek ship towering above them. In Churchwood Street itself, the little boy and the little girl look up with awe at the Almighty Dalek ship.
LITTLE BOY
(amazed) “Look at that! It’s a giant Dalek in the sky!”
LITTLE GIRL
(cheers) “It’s Christmas! Father Christmas has come in his big Dalek sleigh!”
Just then, Mrs. Shearman’s voice echoes out across Cardiff City.
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(with Dalek voice) “Peoples of the Earth! Do not be afraid! This is the beginning of a new age for a brand new empire! Rejoice and be glad in it!”
The Almighty Dalek advances forward in the sky, whilst in the street, David MacDonald looks up to see.
DAVID MACDONALD
(astonished) “Good lord! Where did that thing come from?! It’s ginormous!”
The Almighty Dalek with Mrs. Shearman’s voice speaks again.
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(with Dalek voice) “I…Mrs. Shearman…declare a new age! The Dalek dominion has commenced! You shall all succumb to a new order! If not…then feel my power!” (gradually) “EXTERMINATE!!!”
The Almighty Dalek then attacks the city. It opens fire with its huge gunstuck. It blows up buildings, causing infernos to erupt all over the city. Everyone in Churchwood Street screams and scatters with panic and fear, including the little boy and the little girl.
LITTLE GIRL
(scared) “It’s hurting us! The big bad Dalek is hurting everyone!”
LITTLE BOY
(horrified) “The Daleks are bad! They’re blowing up buildings! The Daleks are bad!”
David MacDonald sees the little boy and the little girl in the street nearby amidst this fiasco. He runs over to them.
DAVID
(shouts) “Hey! You two! Get out of here! Get out before you get killed!”
LITTLE GIRL
(terrified) “But they’re bad Daleks! The Daleks are bad!”
DAVID
“Yes, I know. Come on, let’s go! Let’s get undercover!”
LITTLE BOY
(terrified) “Please don’t let them kill us! Don’t let the bad Daleks kill us!”
David MacDonald, the little boy and the little girl make a run for it, taking cover whilst the Almighty Dalek attacks Churchwood Street.
SCENE #70 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
In the control room of the Almighty Dalek, Mrs. Shearman and the Daleks watch as the destruction of Cardiff City takes place.
BLACK DALEK
CARDIFF CITY IN SOUTH WALES IS AFLAME! WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS! THE INVASION IS SUCCEEDING!
RED DALEK
DALEK UNITS ARE READY FOR DESCENT!
BLACK DALEK
WE AWAIT YOUR COMMAND, ALMIGHTY DALEK CONTROLLER!
Mrs. Shearman doesn’t respond. A moment of silence ensues.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(confused; with Dalek voice) My people! They’re afraid! Why do they run away? This is a glorious occasion! Why do they scatter in fear and not praise us?
BLACK DALEK
IT IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE. THE DALEK INVASION MUST PROCEED!
RED DALEK
AWAITING ORDERS FOR DALEK DESCENT.
BLACK DALEK
WE AWAIT YOUR COMMAND, MRS. SHEARMAN.
Eventually, Mrs. Shearman snaps out of it and regains her composure.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) Yes! All Dalek units are to descend and attack the city! Descend immediately!
RED DALEK
THE DALEK FLEET FROM EARTH’S MOON HAS ARRIVED. IT WILL ENTER PLANETARY ATMOSPHERE FROM OUR CURRENT POSITION AT YOUR COMMAND.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) Let them pass! All Dalek units are to attack! Send in all our troops to attack the Earth! Every part of the world must be dominated by the Daleks! Daleks dominate and conquer!
Mrs. Shearman laughs out loud whilst in her Dalek casing, filled with happiness. The Dalek invasion of Earth proceeds further.
SCENE #71 – EXT – CARDIFF, SOUTH WALES – DAY, AFTERNOON
The Almighty Dalek soon opens up its loading bays. Swarms of Daleks exit and descend to Cardiff City below. The Daleks start attacking Cardiff City in an instant, killing everyone in sight. Soon, the Dalek fleet from Earth’s moon arrives, entering the sky and joining the Almighty Dalek as well as the invasion of Earth, traversing far and wide.
SCENE #72 – INT – POWER GENERATOR ROOM, DALEK MOONBASE – N/A
Back on the moon in the Daleks’ moonbase, Billy and his parents Enid and Fred are in the power generator room. They’re about to shut down the power generator, as Billy accesses a computer terminal, using a keyboard.
FRED
“I assume you know how to shut down the power generator, Billy. Because I don’t.”
BILLY
“Oh don’t worry, Dad. Nyssa and the Doctor have taught me a few lessons on these kinds of mechanics. It’s just making sure you know where the ‘off’ button is. Sometimes that can be a challenge if it’s in an alien language.”
ENID
“I’m amazed Nyssa and the Doctor put so much trust in you, Billy.”
BILLY
Oh you’d surprised by what I’ve achieved in my travels with the Doctor and Nyssa, Mum. I previously saved Nyssa’s life from a mad film director in Cannes using a video camera. It was after that I popped the question to Nyssa and she said ‘yes’.
FRED
That’s when it happened? When you were on your holiday in Cannes with Nyssa and asked her to marry you?
BILLY
Yes. Now just give a minute, Dad. I think I’ve found the on and off switches. (Pause) Aha!
ENID
You found them?
Billy presses a few switches.
BILLY
There! (Pause; realises) Oh?
ENID
What is it? What’s wrong?
BILLY
“This computer screen. It’s asking me to enter a password of some kind.”
FRED
“And do you know the password?”
BILLY
“No.” (Pause) “I suppose I could risk a guess. Hang on.”
Billy presses a few buttons on the keyboard to enter a password. Just then, an alarm goes off.
BILLY
(anxiously) “Oh! Oh, I don’t like that.”
ENID
(panics) “What is it? What’s wrong?”
FRED
“Calm down, Enid. There’s no need to panic.”
ENID
(panics) “I’m not panicking! Nobody’s panicking!”
FRED
“Billy, tell us what’s wrong!”
BILLY
(anxiously) “I’m not sure. I think I might have set off a self-destruct sequence on this thing.”
ENID
(panics) “Self-destruct?! We’re going to blow up?!”
BILLY
“It could be anything! But with a countdown like this on the screen, I can’t think of anything else other than a self-destruct sequence.”
FRED
“You’re going to stop it though, aren’t you, Billy?”
BILLY
“I don’t know if I can, Dad. I thought this would be straight-forward.” (Pause) “Mum; Dad! Go and fetch the Doctor! He might be able to stop this better than I can.”
FRED
“Right you are, son.”
BILLY
“He and Nyssa should still with the Mechanoids up on the floor above where we parked the TARDIS.”
ENID
“We can’t just leave you here, Billy! You might get killed!”
BILLY
“I’ll be fine, Mum. Don’t worry. I’ll try and see if I can sort this out whilst you’re away.”
ENID
“But Billy…”
BILLY
(interjects) “You and Dad need each other in order to find Nyssa and the Doctor. Okay? Now go! GO!!!”
FRED
“Come on, Enid! Let’s go!” (to Billy) “We’ll back as soon as we can, son.”
ENID
“Take care of yourself, Billy dear.”
BILLY
“I will. You too.”
With that, Enid relctantly goes with Fred, as they head off to find the Doctor and Nyssa. Meanwhile, Billy tries to solve the password problem at the computer terminal.
BILLY
(apprehensively) “Now, let’s see if we can try another password.” (Pause; breathes deep) “Don’t panic, Billy. Don’t panic now.”
The alarm continues to go off. Unbeknown to Billy, there’s a small compartment with a Dalek inside. It watches Billy whilst hiding in the small compartment.
SCENE #73 – INT – MECHANOID STORE ROOM, DALEK MOONBASE – N/A
Meanwhile, with the Doctor and Nyssa, they’re in the Mechanoid store room where all the Mechanoid robot units are in sleep mode. They move about carefully whilst in the storm room.
DOCTOR
Right, Nyssa. You go to one side of the room and switch on the Mechanoids using the control port at your end whilst I go to the other side and switch them on using the control port at my end. This will save time as well as the universe.
NYSSA
Doctor, suppose the Mechanoids won’t help us. What if we have to reprogram them with a series of complex computations and input codes. It’ll take a considerable amount of time.
DOCTOR
We’ll worry about that when we cross that bridge, Nyssa. Let’s just concentrate on waking them up first, shall we?
With that, Nyssa goes to her side of the room and the Doctor goes to his side of the room, as they’re about to use their control ports to wake up the Mechanoids.
NYSSA
“Doctor? The Daleks intend to wipe out humanity and start a new Dalek empire from scratch.”
DOCTOR
“That’s the general idea, yes.”
NYSSA
“But surely humanity would survive after this. We’ve seen the future. Humanity doesn’t get wiped out and there’s no Dalek empire that started in 1965.”
DOCTOR
“Remember what I told you, Nyssa. Events are indeterminate.”
NYSSA
“I know that, Doctor. I’m just wondering how we can resolve it. How can we stop the Almighty Dalek and hopefully destroy it without causing so much damage to the timeline as well as to many innocent lives?”
DOCTOR
“Well, hopefully the TARDIS can sort that one out for us. If we project a directional temporal cannon into the time vortex and drag all the Daleks and their ships with the Almighty Dalek back into the inrush, providing we don’t fall into it ourselves…”
NYSSA
(interrupts) “Is the TARDIS capable of doing that? Does it have a directional temporal cannon?”
DOCTOR
“Theoretically. It’s been built, but I haven’t had the chance to put it into practice yet. Too much to think about lately, you see.”
NYSSA
“How reassuring.”
DOCTOR
“I’m sure it’ll work out fine once we use it, Nyssa. You’ll see.”
NYSSA
“We still have the problem of dissuading Mrs. Shearman from being the leader of the Daleks whilst she’s piloting the Almighty Dalek ship. She can’t control them indefinitely. She must know that. There must be some way for her to see the error of her ways.”
DOCTOR
“The Daleks have fully integrated her into the hub of the Almighty Dalek ship, both body and soul, according to the schematics we found. Unless there’s a way to break the conditioning the Dalek have placed on her whilst she’s piloting the Almighty Dalek, I can’t see how we can dissaude her otherwise.”
NYSSA
“You can think of something surely, Doctor. I can help you with whatever ideas you have in mind.”
DOCTOR
I’m not a miracle worker, Nyssa. But I’ll do my best to come up with something.
A moment of silence.
NYSSA
I’m ready at my control port to wake up the Mechanoids. Are you ready at your end?
DOCTOR
Yes, Nyssa. Get ready to switch on at my word.
NYSSA
Yes, Doctor.
DOCTOR
(gradually) Okay. Three…two…one…now!
With that, the Doctor and Nyssa pull the levers at their control ports to switch on the Mechanoids. Another moment of silence.
NYSSA
Nothing happened.
DOCTOR
“Just it give a moment, Nyssa please.”
Another moment of silence ensues.
NYSSA
“Still nothing. Perhaps they’re damaged.”
At that moment, the Mechanoids whir to life and wake up.
DOCTOR
Wait, Nyssa! They’re waking up! See?
As the Mechaniods are waking up, they slowly start to move about, getting their bearings and making internal assessments.
MECHANOID #1
ENGLISH – POWER – FIFTY-FIVE – INCREASING – INCREASING – SEVEN – ZERO – ZERO – MECHANOID – ONE POINT PONE – RESPOND – RESPOND.
MECHANOID #2
MECHANOID – ONE POINT TWO – ACTIVE – POWER – FORTY-NINE – INCREASING – INCREASING – ENTER – ENTER – ZERO – ZERO – WAITING – WAITING.
DOCTOR
(pleased) Well, we’ve certainly managed to wake them up, Nyssa.
NYSSA
Yes. The next thing is, will they accept our commands?
DOCTOR
“Let’s find out.” (to Mechanoid) “Mechanoid, I command you to recognise me. I’m the Doctor.”
MECHANOID #1
“DOC-TOR – DOC-TOR – IDENTITY – IDENTITY – DOC-TOR.”
DOCTOR
“That’s right. And I command you and all Mechanoid units to go out there and stop the Daleks. They’re attacking Earth. Earth is your priority planet to protect. Go out there and stop the Daleks. Understand?”
MECHANOID #1
“HUNDRED – FIFTY – MECHANOID – ENGLISH – INPUT – ADVANCE – ADVANCE – LOCATE – ATTACK – DEFEND.”
MECHANOID #2
“RESPONDING – RESPONDING – ADVANCE – ADVANCE.”
Astonished, the Doctor and Nyssa watch, as the Mechanoids glide off and out of the Dalek moonbase to protect the planet Earth from the Daleks. The Mechanoids moves about slowly as they go out.
NYSSA
“They’ve responded to your commands, Doctor! And without resistance!”
DOCTOR
“Yes. Even I surprise myself. I must have a knack with Mechanoids.”
NYSSA
“Or maybe the Daleks have no use of them and the Mechanoids have no commander. They’ve turned to you for instructions.”
DOCTOR
“As the next best thing? I’m flattered, if not slightly unsettled. I thought this was too easy.”
NYSSA
“At least they’re going to stop the Daleks for us. Now we can find Billy, Enid and Fred before…”
At that moment, Enid and Fred enter.
FRED
(calls) “Doctor; Nyssa! Help us!”
DOCTOR
(puzzled) “Enid; Fred, what’s happening? Where’s Billy?”
ENID
“He’s in the power generator room. He’s trying to sort something out. He thinks there’s a problem with shutting down the power generator.”
NYSSA
“What problem with the power generator?”
FRED
“Billy says he thinks he’s accidentally tripped a self-destruct sequence of some kind. This place might blow up.”
DOCTOR
“What?!”
FRED
“He asked us to come and fetch you, Doctor. To sort out this mess if it really is a self-destruct sequence.”
DOCTOR
(annoyed) “Oh Billy! I implied to him that it was a straight-forward job and he has to muck it up! Just my day!”
ENID
“Don’t put blame on our son! It’s not his fault he didn’t know about a self-destruct sequence!”
DOCTOR
“There isn’t meant to be a self-destruct sequence!”
FRED
“Well, there is now!”
NYSSA
(anxiously) “This is worrying. I’ll go and help Billy. Perhaps my technical skills can come in handy with this problem.”
DOCTOR
“Nyssa, wait!”
NYSSA
“I’m going, Doctor! Billy may be in trouble. And he could be right about the self-destruct sequence.”
With that, Nyssa heads off.
FRED
(impressed; to Enid) “She’s got guts. No wonder our son’s in love with her.”
DOCTOR
“Come on, Enid; Fred! Let’s go after her and join Billy! Quickly now!”
At that, the Doctor, Enid and Fred follow after Nyssa, whilst the Mechanoids disembark for Earth.
SCENE #74 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
Back on Earth aboard the Almighty Dalek, Mrs. Shearman shudders, as she senses something wrong.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “My Daleks! Something is amiss! I can feel it in my mind!”
BLACK DALEK
“I DETECT NO ANOMALIES. THE DALEK ATTACK ON CARDIFF CITY IS PROGRESSING AS PLANNED.”
RED DALEK
“NOTHING CAN GO WRONG! WE ARE ALREADY TRIUMPHANT!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “No listen, you fools! The Dalek moonbase! It has been infiltrated! Infiltrated, I say!”
BLACK DALEK
“THAT IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “But it is! Don’t you see?! The intruders are in the heart of our operations! In the power generator room, which supplies the power source for the Almighty Dalek. They’re attempting to shut down the power supply. It must be the Doctor and his friends who are doing it.”
RED DALEK
“THE ALMIGHTY DALEK WILL SOON RUN ON MOBILE POWER. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THE DOC-TOR AND HIS FRIENDS SHUT DOWN THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY ON THE MOON. IT WOULD BE USELESS FOR THEM TO TRY.”
BLACK DALEK
“YOU SEE, MRS. SHEARMAN. THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) All the same, I would feel better for some Dalek units to be sent to the moon to deal with the Doctor and his friends. They will try anything. Anything to stop our conquest of the Earth, whether it’s the power generator or not.
BLACK DALEK
VERY WELL. (to Red Dalek) ORDER DALEK UNITS TO BE SENT TO THE MOON TO APPREHEND THE DOCTOR AND HIS COMPANIONS. ATTEND TO IT AT ONCE! AT ONCE, YOU HEAR!!!
RED DALEK
I OBEY!
At that, the Red Dalek trundles off to carry out the Black Dalek’s orders. The Black Dalek meanwhile turns to Mrs. Shearman.
BLACK DALEK
WE MUST PROGRESS FORWARD. WE MUST CAPTURE THE MAIN ESTABLISHMENT OF AUTHORITY IN THIS AREA. WE MUST GAIN CONTROL OF EVERY HUMAN SUBJECT.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) The Welsh Office is where we need to go. Opposite Cathays and close to Cardiff University. There, we shall command all government officials and politicians to subjugate to us. And if they refuse…
BLACK DALEK
(finishes) …THEN WE SHALL EXTERMINATE THEM! FOR THE GLORY OF THE NEW DALEK EMPIRE!
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) I shall pilot us to the Welsh Office! Order all Daleks to make for the Welsh Office at once!
BLACK DALEK
I OBEY!
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) There we shall begin our conquest of the Earth by obtaining all government establishments. All praise to the Almighty Dalek!
BLACK DALEK
(chants) ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK! ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK!
At that moment, the Red Dalek returns.
RED DALEK
DALEK UNITS HAVE BEEN SENT TO EARTH’S MOON. THEY ARE IN FLIGHT. THEY WILL APPREHEND AND CAPTURE THE DOC-TOR AND HIS COMPANIONS.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Excellent! Meanwhile…oh, how delighted and thrilled the Welsh officials will be to see us at their building! The Daleks in their glory at the Welsh office!”
Mrs. Shearman laughs away, as she pilots the Almighty Dalek ship to the Welsh Office, blowing up Cardiff City and its people along the way. Meanwhile, some Daleks head off into outer space to Earth’s moon.
SCENE #75 – INT – POWER GENERATOR ROOM, DALEK MOONBASE – N/A
Back in the power generator room on the Dalek moonbase, Billy attempts to stop the ‘countdown’ for what he assumes to be a self-destruct sequence by accessing the computers. He has little luck, as the clock continues to count down. The alarm is still going off.
BILLY
(annoyed) “Oh come on!” (checks) “Twenty seconds left.” (Pause; bitterly) “Why don’t you just stop, you stupid…”
Billy then presses some buttons in anger. Suddenly, the countdown stops. The alarm also stops. A moment of silence ensues once Billy sees this.
BILLY
(astonished) “It’s stopped!” (Pause) “The countdown’s stopped! No blow up! The place hasn’t blown up! I managed to stop it!”
Another moment of silence ensues.
BILLY
(gradually; laughs; relieved) “Thank goodness for that.” (Pause) “Huh. Perhaps getting angry does help you out in a crisis. Not that I would like to rely on my anger all the time in these situations, but…”
At that moment, Nyssa enters the room, startling Billy.
BILLY
(startled) “Nyssa! Goodness me! You gave me a fright!”
NYSSA
(tells off) “What are you doing, Billy?! You shouldn’t be here on your own when the moon’s about to blow up!”
BILLY
“But it’s not going to blow up! In fact, I think I might have stopped the countdown.”
NYSSA
“What are you talking about?”
BILLY
“Look! Look at the computer screen. See?”
Nyssa goes over to where Billy is to take a look at the computer screen at the terminal he’s at. Another moment of silence ensues.
NYSSA
“Are you sure there was a countdown, Billy?”
BILLY
“Yes, there was! Bright red numbers counting down on the screen!”
NYSSA
“What number was it at when you stopped the countdown?”
BILLY
“Err, twenty. Perhaps on its way to fifteen.”
Another moment of silences ensues, as Nyssa considers.
NYSSA
“I’d better check the computer terminal to see what it was you did to stop the countdown. And to find out whether it was a self-destruct sequence you unintentionally tripped off or not.”
BILLY
“Fair enough.”
Nyssa accesses the computer terminal, typing away at the keyboard.
NYSSA
“Give me a moment. There should be a applications settings to this desktop. If I can just [search…”]
At that moment, the Dalek that had been hiding in its small compartment exits to attack.
MOON DALEK
“STAY WHERE YOU ARE! DO NOT MOVE! YOU ARE TRAPPED! I HAVE YOU AS MY PRISONERS! YOU CANNOT ESCAPE!”
Startled, Nyssa and Billy back away once they see the Dalek.
BILLY
(groans) “Oh no! Just what we need!”
NYSSA
“How long had that Dalek been hiding in that compartment?!”
BILLY
“I don’t know! It was quiet as a mouse when I was trying to stop the countdown on the computer screen.”
MOON DALEK
“CEASE TALKING! YOU ARE MY PRISONERS! YOU WILL FOLLOW MY ORDERS! RESIST…AND YOU WILL BOTH BE…EXT…”
Fred enters with a Dalek gun. Enid and the Doctor are behind him.
FRED
(interrupts; shouts) “Billy; Nyssa! Duck!”
BILLY
“What?”
NYSSA
“Quick, Billy! Duck!”
Nyssa and Blly duck.
MOON DALEK
“WHO SPOKE?! ANSWER! ANSWER!!! [ANSWER…”]
FRED
“Take this, chump!”
With that, Fred opens fire, zapping the Dalek on the spot. The Dalek shrieks and writhes before it blows up and splatters all over the place. Fred blows the Dalek gun once he’s finished, having saved Nyssa and Billy’s lives.
FRED
“I enjoyed doing that. Blowing up Daleks is becoming a speciality.”
ENID
“You really are trigger-happy, dear. What are you, John Wayne?”
FRED
“I did fight in the war, Enid.”
DOCTOR
(concerned) “Nyssa; Billy, are you alright?”
BILLY
“We’re fine! We’re fine, Doctor. That Dalek…”
ENID
(interrupts) “Oh Billy, how glad I am to see you and Nyssa still alive. I’m so happy, I could cry!”
FRED
“Don’t go over the top, Enid.”
BILLY
(reassuringly) “It’s alright, Mum and Dad. We’re both fine, Nyssa and me.”
NYSSA
“The self-destruct sequence, Doctor. Billy says he thinks he shut it down. I was about to check on the computer terminal, but…”
BILLY
“…but then the Dalek interrupted us.”
DOCTOR
“Well, let’s check it again, shall we?”
With that, the Doctor accesses the computer terminal, typing away at the keyboard. A while ensues, as he checks the desktop’s applications settings.
NYSSA
“We were just at the stage where we about to search for the desktop’s application settings and then…”
DOCTOR
(interrupts) “It’s all good, Nyssa. Billy has indeed stopped the self-destruct sequence and the countdown for it.”
NYSSA
(surprised) “Really, Doctor?”
BILLY
(surprised) “Really, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“Yes. You can see on the schematic here. And the countdown number is at fourteen.”
BILLY
“Fourteen?! Well, that was a close shave.”
DOCTOR
“Indeed. And the fact is evident that we’re all still here. The place hasn’t blown up and the alarms aren’t going off either.” (to Billy) “Very well done for shutting down the self-destuct sequence, Billy.”
BILLY
“Thanks, Doctor. It was pure luck, I guess.”
NYSSA
“I’m glad you were lucky, Billy. But don’t handle things by yourself next time. Wait for either me or the Doctor to come and help you. Understand?”
BILLY
“Yes, Nyssa.”
NYSSA
(gradually) “Come here.”
With that, Nyssa and Billy embrace each other.
DOCTOR
(gradually) “Anyway, we haven’t got time to stick around. We need to get back to the TARDIS as quickly as possible. The Mechanoids are on the move…”
NYSSA
(interjects; realises) “…And the Daleks are about to come to Earth’s moon!”
DOCTOR
“And the Daleks are about to come to Earth’s moon…” (surprised) “What did you say, Nyssa?”
The Doctor then looks outside.
DOCTOR
(realises) “Oh yes, so they are. Look out the window, all of you.”
Everyone looks outside to see the Daleks approaching Earth’s moon. They chant their…
DALEKS
(echoes; from outside) “EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! [EXTERMINATE…”]
…as they approach.
NYSSA
“They must have known about our sabotage to the generator. That means they’ll be coming here.”
DOCTOR
“Yes. Something I hoped we would avoid.”
BILLY
(realises) “Hey, look! The Mechanoids! They’ve come! They’ve come to fight the Daleks!”
NYSSA
“They are fighting the Daleks, you mean.”
Everyone looks to see the Daleks and the Mechanoids fighting it out with each other in outer space. The Daleks and the Mechanoids are gunning each other. Some of the Daleks shriek out loud once they’ve been shot at and blown up by the Mechanoids. Some of the Mechanoids don’t react once they’ve been shot at and blown up by Daleks.
DOCTOR
(amazed) “Yes, so they are. Good on them!” (Pause) “You see, Nyssa? Our reactivation of the Mechanoids worked out well in the end.”
NYSSA
“Let’s hope some of those Mechanoids survive their current battle with the Daleks in order to get to Earth.”
DOCTOR
“Indeed. Let’s hope that will happen.”
FRED
“Shall we get back to the TARDIS like you suggest, Doctor?”
ENID
“Absolutely! At once!”
DOCTOR
“Of course! You’re right, Enid and Fred! Come on, everyone! Let’s leave the Mechanoids to it in their fight with the Daleks!”
With that, the Doctor, Nyssa, Billy, Enid and Fred make a run for it, as they head back to the TARDIS whilst the Daleks and Mechanoids’ fight in outer space continues.
SCENE #76 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Back in the TARDIS, the Doctor sets the controls whilst Nyssa, Billy, Enid and Fred are standing around the console with him. In the console room, the TARDIS fivesome review their latest situation.
DOCTOR
“Right, so, the power generator is down, despite the hiccup with the self-destruct sequence. And the Mechanoids are fighting against the Daleks, like Nyssa and I instructed them to. So, with luck, everything will go according to plan.”
NYSSA
“But what about Mrs. Shearman? We have to stop her somehow. She’s on a rampage to destroy the whole of South Wales and the rest of planet Earth.”
BILLY
“She must still be in Cardiff. The Almighty Dalek ship is too big to travel the whole wide world in an instant, isn’t it?”
DOCTOR
“Never underestimate size, Billy. The Daleks are capable of time-travel technology too. They can do anything they want if they have the technological capacity and resources.”
A beeping noise echoes from the TARDIS console, to which Fred discovers.
FRED
“Err, Doctor; Nyssa; Billy? That flashing light and the alarm sound from the TARDIS console means something, doesn’t it? It means trouble, right?”
DOCTOR
“Here, let me take a look.”
The Doctor goes over to examine the flashing light from the TARDIS console. Nyssa and Billy examine it too. After a moment…
DOCTOR
(realises) “Oh. Oh I say, that doesn’t look too good.”
ENID
“What is it? What’s wrong?”
DOCTOR
Most of Cardiff City has been overtaken by the Almighty Dalek. And the rate of city incidents is increasing exponentially.
BILLY
Let’s look at the TARDIS scanner. Perhaps we can see where the Almighty Dalek is heading.
NYSSA
Good idea, Billy. Let’s look at the TARDIS scanner.
With that, Nyssa presses a switch on the TARDIS console. The scanner screen rises up. Everyone looks to see and trace the movements of the Almighty Dalek ship on Earth.
NYSSA
(realises) Doctor! The Almighty Dalek is heading for a sector of Cardiff City. At a university from what I can ascertain.
DOCTOR
Cardiff University, yes. (realises; shocked) Opposite Cathays! Where the Welsh Office is! Oh no! She can’t be serious surely!
BILLY
The Welsh Office? Why would Mrs. Shearman want to go there for?
DOCTOR
“The Daleks will want to commence the full take-over of Earth. What’s better local area of authority and power to take control before eradicating the current officials of government?”
FRED
(realises) “The Welsh Office! They take over the Welsh Office to become the new government officials of Cardiff and South Wales!”
DOCTOR
“Exactly, Fred. And with the Almighty Dalek to blow up the Welsh Office, they’ll be unstoppable!”
ENID
“Then we’ve got to stop them! Both Mrs. Shearman and the Daleks! They can’t blow up the Welsh Office like that!”
DOCTOR
“Quite right, Enid. So, it’s time we set off!”
NYSSA
“You’re going to take us back to Earth to where the Welsh Office is in Cardiff.”
DOCTOR
“Hopefully, yes. This short hop should be easy enough for the TARDIS to handle.”
BILLY
(ruefully) “Easy is an understatement, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
“Hold on tight, everyone! Here we go! Back to Earth and back to Cardiff!”
Setting the controls, the Doctor pilots the TARDIS to return to Earth, whilst Nyssa, Billy, Enid and Fred hold on to the TARDIS console.
SCENE #77 – EXT – WELSH OFFICE, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
Back on Earth, the Almighty Dalek arrives at the Welsh Office building in Cardiff. The giant spaceship looms over the building. Everybody below is terrified to see the Almighty Dalek ship. Mrs. Shearman’s Dalek voice echoes to everyone via the ship’s loud speakers.
MRS. SHEARMAN (V’O)
(with Dalek voice) “Peoples of the Earth! Members of the Welsh government in Cardiff! This city is now under Dalek control! Pay attention, as the Daleks intend to take over!”
SCENE #78 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
MRS. SHEARMAN
(continues; through intercom; with Dalek voice) “You will comply with our commands! And if not…then feel my power! Watch as your government building explodes!”
As Mrs. Shearman carries out these threats, firepower echoes nearby. It catches her attention.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “What is happening?! Why do I hear firepower close by?! Explain! Explain! EXPLAIN!!!”
BLACK DALEK
“EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!!! DALEK UNITS ARE BEING ATTACKED! THEY ARE ENGAGED IN BATTLE!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Who dares to challenge us and oppose our dominion?! Identify! Who is attacking our Dalek forces?!”
RED DALEK
“SCANNING. WAIT!”
The Red Dalek takes a moment to identify their enemies before it reports to Mrs. Shearman.
RED DALEK
“ENEMIES IDENTIFIED! IT IS THE MECHANOIDS!”
BLACK DALEK
“THE MECHANOIDS?!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “I understood the Mechanoids were to be shut down and discarded.”
BLACK DALEK
“IT WAS THE COMMAND OF THE GOLD DALEK SUPREME! WHO DARES TO AWAKEN THEM AND REPROGRAM THEM TO FIGHT US?!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “I can guess!”
BLACK DALEK
(realises) “THE DOC-TOR!”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “He must have reactivated the Mechanoids once he and his friends were sabotaging the power generator on Earth’s moon. The Doctor and his friends should have been dealt with by now!”
RED DALEK
“WHAT ARE YOUR ORDERS, ALMIGHTY DALEK? HOW DO WE COUNTERACT THE MECHANOIDS?”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “The Mechanoids may do battle with us. But I am the Almighty Dalek! I will destroy the Mechanoids myself! The Doctor’s attempts to oppose us may have been for nothing.” (Pause) “Watch and learn, boys! Watch and learn!”
SCENE #79 – EXT – WELSH OFFICE, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
Flying above the Welsh Office building, the Dalek-Mechanoid battle takes place. The Mechanoids use their flame throwers to attack, whilst the Daleks use their gunsticks.
MECHANOID #1
“FOLLOW – MECHANOID – ATTACK – SYSTEM.”
TOY DALEK #3
“DO NOT DEFY THE DALEKS! THE ALMIGHTY DALEK WILL DESTROY YOU!”
MECHANOID #2
“EVENT – RED.”
TOY DALEK #3
“THE MECHANOIDS MUST BE DESTROYED! DESTROYED!! DESTROYED!!!”
MECHANOID #1
“ESCALATE – OUTPUT.”
SANTA DALEK #1
“EXTERMINATE THEM, ALMIGHTY DALEK! EXTERMINATE!!!”
MECHANOID #2
“ATTACK – EVADE – DESTRUCT.”
SANTA DALEK #2
“ELIMINATE THEM! ELIMINATE!”
MECHANOID #1
“WARNING – WARNING – EMERGENCY – EMERGENCY!”
Suddenly, the Mechanoids are shot at and blown up by the Almighty Dalek’s firepower upon them. Thunderous explosions occur once the Mechanoids have been blown up.

“WE WARNED YOU! THE ALMIGHTY DALEK WILL DESTROY YOU! THE ALMIGHTY DALEK IS SUPREME! ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK! ALL PRAISE TO THE ALMIGHTY DALEK!!!”
SANTA DALEK #1
“DEATH TO THE MECHANOIDS! DEATH TO THOSE WHO OPPOSE US!”
MECHANOID #3
“CONTINUE – CONTINUE – ATTACK – ATTACK.”
SANTA DALEK #2
“THE DALEKS WILL BE SUPREME! THE DALEKS WILL REIGN VICTORIOUS!”
The Daleks and the Mechanoids continue fighting each other, whilst the Almighty Dalek continues firing upon and blowing up the Mechanoids.
SCENE #80 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ALMIGHTY DALEK – DAY, AFTERNOON
Aboard the Almighty Dalek, Mrs. Shearman is very pleased with herself.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “See, my Daleks? I’m destroying the Mechanoids with my firepower! I can do anything! I am the Almighty Dalek!”
BLACK DALEK
(dolefully) “SATISFACTORY.”
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) “Don’t be downhearted, Black Dalek. It’s not every day you get to be almighty like I am. You made me this way after all, remember?”
BLACK DALEK
UNDERSTOOD.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) Now, whilst I’ve helped our Dalek forces against the horrible Mechanoids trying to oppose us, it’s time for my talk with the Welsh government. (Pause) TURN US AROUND!!!!!
RED DALEK
I OBEY!
With that, the Red Dalek complies, as it sets the Almighty Dalek ship to turn around to the Welsh Office building below, so that Mrs. Shearman can make her demands to the politicans.
MRS. SHEARMAN
(with Dalek voice) Now, government officials! See how awesome and powerful we are! All Daleks shall destroy Cardiff City unless you agree to our terms and surrender! Watch now, as I continue to blow up this city and demonstrate my power!
Mrs. Shearman laughs away, as she continue to blow up Cardiff City.
SCENE #81 – EXT – WELSH OFFICE, CARDIFF – DAY, AFTERNOON
The Almighty Dalek continues to demonstrate power by blowing up Cardiff City, destroying many buildings and city structures close by the Welsh Office building. Meanwhile, the Daleks and the Mechanoids continue to fight it out with each other. Close by on a street, the TARDIS materialises, whooshing and groaning, as it lands next to the Welsh Office building. The TARDIS doors open and the Doctor, Nyssa, Billy, Enid and Fred step out. They look to see the chaos happening in the city.
ENID
(shocked) “Great heavens above! This can’t be happening!”
FRED
(shocked) “They’re blowing everything up! The city’s on fire and buildings are crumbling!”
NYSSA
“Doctor, the devastation. Mechanoids and Daleks fighting each other…”
BILLY
(interjects) “…And the Almighty Dalek! It’s gigantic! Megamonstrous!”
NYSSA
“That’s not a real word, Billy.”
BILLY
“I know, but it gets the point across, doesn’t it!”
DOCTOR
“We mustn’t waste time. We have stop the Almighty Dalek and its attack on Earth.”
NYSSA
“How did you plan to do that, Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“I’ll use the TARDIS. You Nyssa and you Billy find a safe place to take cover. Billy, take your parents with you and…”
NYSSA
(interjects) “No, Doctor! I’m coming with you!”
DOCTOR
“Please, Nyssa! Now is not the time!”
NYSSA
“I insist, Doctor! I’m coming with you!”
BILLY
“And I’m coming too!”
ENID
“No Billy, don’t!”
NYSSA
“Billy, your parents need you. I have to go with the Doctor [and…”]
BILLY
(interrupts) “You’re my wife, Nyssa! My future wife at any rate! I have to protect you! In sickness and in health! And that means when you get injured from tackling Daleks!”
NYSSA
“Billy, I don’t want you to get injured either…”
BILLY
(interjects) “I’m coming with you! Understand? There’s no stopping me! I’m not letting you and the Doctor into danger by yourselves.”
A moment of silence ensues.
NYSSA
“Alright. I suppose I’d be doing the same for you if you went into danger with the Doctor.”
BILLY
“Absolutely!”
ENID
“Please, Billy, don’t go!”
FRED
“Enid, let him do what he wants. He’s grown up now.”
DOCTOR
“Nyssa; Billy, I can’t let you sacrifice your future happiness for the sake of helping me. It would be selfish of [me…”]
NYSSA
(interupts) “After all we’ve been through, Doctor, we can’t just let you do this by yourself. We’d never hear the end of it.”
BILLY
“We said you we’d stick with you to the end before we continued with our wedding arrangements. That’s what we’re going to do. We promised.”
NYSSA
“Yes! So let’s not debate further on the matter.”
Another moment of silence ensues.
DOCTOR
(gradually) “Alright. So long as you’re sure…”
BILLY
“We are sure, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
(gradually) “Very well. Say your goodbyes quickly, Billy, before it’s too late to do so.”
BILLY
(puzzled) “My goodbyes?”
NYSSA
“Your parents, Billy. Say goodbye to your parents.”
BILLY
(realises) “Oh, right!”
Billy turns to his parents.
BILLY
“Mum; Dad…”
ENID
“Don’t leave us, Billy. Please don’t leave us.”
BILLY
“Wish us luck as we go up to sort out the Almighty Dalek, Mum. Nyssa, the Doctor and I. We’re going to end this. We’re going to save the world and defeat the Daleks once and for all. Especially for Christmas.”
FRED
“Quite right too, Billy. You go up there and save the world.”
BILLY
“Thanks, Dad.”
ENID
(shocked) “Fred!”
FRED
“Let’s not keep Billy’s friends waiting, Enid. He has to go. This is what our boy wants to do. It’s what he’s meant to do, isn’t it?”
A tense moment of silence ensues.
ENID
(gradually) “Just make sure you come back before the day is over, Billy. We’ll be watching you up there.”
BILLY
“I will, Mum! I’ll be careful.”
Billy gives his parents a hug and soem kisses, as he says goodbye to them.
BILLY
“Bye Mum; bye Dad!”
FRED
“May God be with you, Billy.”
ENID
“Yes, Billy! May God be with you. You, Nyssa and the Doctor.”
BILLY
“Thanks.” (Pause) “See you later!”
With that, Billy joins Nyssa and the Doctor.
BILLY
“Right, Nyssa; Doctor! Let’s go!”
DOCTOR
“Quickly! Inside the TARDIS!”
The Doctor turns the key and re-opens the TARDIS to let himself, Nyssa and Billy in. Once inside, the TARDIS doors close behind them. Soon, the TARDIS dematerialises, whooshing and groans as she goes, setting off into the time vortex, with Enid and Fred watching. Enid sobs away whilst Fred embraces her.
FRED
(reassuringly) “Don’t worry, Enid. Everything will be alright. You’ll see. The Doctor, Nyssa and Billy will look after each other.”
Just then, a Dalek turns around the corner and spots them.
SANTA DALEK #1
“HALT! YOU WILL COME WITH ME! SANTA DALEK WANTS YOU!”
ENID
(shocked) Fred! It’s one of those Santa Daleks! It’s coming for us!
FRED
(encouragingly) Come on! On the bus back to Churchwood! Run!!!
With that, Enid and Fred run for it. The Santa Dalek chases after them.
SANTA DALEK #1
HALT! HALT!!! OBEY! OBEY!!!
The Dalek opens fire, but misses Fred and Enid.
ENID
(startled; frets) It’s firing on us! We’ll never get out of this alive!
FRED
(encouragingly) Come on, Enid. Stop talking and run!
They continue to run whilst the Santa Dalek continues to chase them and open fire upon them.
SANTA DALEK #1
EXTERMINATE!!!
SCENE #82 – INT – TARDIS, CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
In the TARDIS, the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy stand around the console, as they’re on a destination setting for the Almighty Dalek ship.
NYSSA
“You’re very brave to come with us, Billy. To leave your parents and help us.”
BILLY
“I meant what I said. I’m sticking with you as your future husband, Nyssa.” (Pause) “And I wouldn’t let my parents get into trouble for the sake of me.”
NYSSA
“Very wise, dear.” (Pause) “But the important question is, how are we to defeat the Daleks in their Almighty Dalek ship?”
BILLY
“Yeah. How are we going to do that? We don’t even have a weapon of sorts.”
DOCTOR
“Don’t have a weapon, Billy? I’ve got this!”
The Doctor shows Nyssa and Billy the ‘weapon’ he’s got.
BILLY
(puzzled) “What’s that?”
NYSSA
“It’s an inter-dimensional interocitor, isn’t it, Doctor?”
BILLY
(baffled) “Inter…inter-whatsit, Nyssa?”
DOCTOR
“That’s right! Except, I’ve adapted it to contain Omega temporal particles. Something that will lure the Daleks into our trap.”
NYSSA
“Omega temporal particles? Did you make that up?”
DOCTOR
(shocked) “Nyssa?! Omega temporal particles were invented by Omega himself! And he put it into the Hand of Omega!”
NYSSA
“The Hand of Omega? Who’s Omega?”
DOCTOR
“Another time.”
BILLY
(shrewdly) “You’ve lost me already, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
“The point is, the Daleks are drawn to time vortex energy like moths to a flame. This is the lure we need to bring the Daleks to us.”
NYSSA
“And away from Earth. We have to stop them from destroying Earth.”
DOCTOR
“And the Daleks cannot resist time vortex energy! The TARDIS is brimming full of the stuff. We need to release a little bit of time vortex energy from the interocitor through the doors of the TARDIS to lure the Daleks to us and into outer space.”
NYSSA
“You intend for the Daleks to chase us into outer space for what we’ve got in the TARDIS. Omega temporal particles.”
DOCTOR
“What better way than to have them chase us? The Daleks will give anything, including Mrs. Shearman, who is now a converted Dalek, to have the opportunity to destroy me as well as steal my TARDIS and any time vortex energy she has.”
BILLY
“But, this doesn’t solve how we’re going to defeat the Daleks. You haven’t explained that bit. No matter how much we try to attract their attention…”
NYSSA
(finishes) “…They’re going to chase us through eons of time in the time vortex and they won’t stop until we’ve exhausted our energy resources.”
BILLY
“Exactly!”
DOCTOR
“Don’t worry, you two! Mrs. Shearman is ‘the key’ in our endeavour to defeat the Daleks.”
BILLY
“Mrs. Shearman? How so?”
DOCTOR
“Wait and see, Billy. Wait and see!”
NYSSA
“Sometimes, I wonder if you’ve thought these plans through, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
“No time to waste! It’s time to set our plan in motion! Nyssa, hold down the dimensional stabilisers.”
Nyssa does as the Doctor tells her, holding down the dimensional stabilsiers.
NYSSA
“Holding them down, Doctor!”
DOCTOR
“Billy, pull up those levers. They’re for the lateral balance cones.”
BILLY
“Levers? Got you!”
Whilst Nyssa holds down the dimensional stabilisers, Billys pulls up the levers for the lateral balance cones. The Doctor continues to pilot the TARDIS at his end.
DOCTOR
Now, we’re getting close to the Almighty Dalek. On my command, Nyssa, since you’re close to the door lever, I want you to open the TARDIS door a fraction or two.
NYSSA
And then you’ll switch on your inter-dimensional interocitor to unleash Omega temporal particles onto the Daleks.
DOCTOR
Yes. Just a little bit mind. (to Billy) Billy, keep those lateral balance cones levers up. Don’t let them drop! Understand?
BILLY
I hear you, Doctor.
Billy keeps holding the lateral balance cones levers up. A moment of silence ensues, as the Doctor pilots the TARDIS closer to the Almighty Dalek ship in Cardiff City.
DOCTOR
Right! On my mark…
Another moment of silence ensues.
DOCTOR
(cries) “Now, Nyssa! Open the doors!”
NYSSA
“Opening doors a fraction or so now, Doctor.”
With that, Nyssa pulls the TARDIS door lever slowly. The interior doors begin to edge open inwardly a little.
DOCTOR
“Right! Here we go! Releasing Omega temporal particles out through the TARDIS doors.”
BILLY
(anxiously) “Doctor, these levels I’m holding up won’t stay up.”
NYSSA
(encouragingly) “Keep holding them, Billy. Hold them up as best as you can.”
BILLY
“I’ll try.”
Billy grits his teeth, as he keeps holding the lateral balance cones levers up.
DOCTOR
(cheerily) “Right! Omega temporal particles are on their way!”
Nyssa and Billy watch, as the Omega temporal particles shoot out from the Doctor’s inter-dimensional interocitor through the TARDIS doors.
DOCTOR
“Nyssa, check the TARDIS computers. See if anything’s happening. Have the Daleks fallen for our bait yet?”
Nyssa goes to check the TARDIS computers, whilst mainitaining her grip and holding down the dimensional stabilisers.
NYSSA
“There’s nothing happening at the moment, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
(bitterly) “It should have worked!”
BILLY
“Give it time, Doctor.”
DOCTOR
“Time is what we don’t have, Billy!”
A moment of tense silence ensues. Nyssa checks the TARDIS computers again. Eventually…
NYSSA
(gradually; realises) “Wait! Something’s happening!” (Pause; realises) “Doctor, they’ve fallen for our trap! Three Daleks are on their way here! They’ve spotted the TARDIS!”
DOCTOR
“And soon, the Almighty Dalek will follow and catch up!”
BILLY
“Um, I suggest we make our move! And quickly before the Earth becomes fried as well as us!”
DOCTOR
“Right you are, Billy! Off to outer space we go!”
With that, the Doctor pulls the dematerialisation lever and the TARDIS sets off into space.
DOCTOR
Hold on, you two! This is going to be a bumpy ride!
