‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, Part I: ‘The Gathering of the Doctors’, Prologue

Prologue

SCENE #1 – INT – CONTROL ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
On a monitor screen, the First Doctor says goodbye to his granddaughter Susan at the end of ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’.

DOCTOR 1 (V’O)
I want you to belong somewhere, to have roots of your own. With David, you will be able to find those roots, and live normally like any woman should do. Believe me, my dear, your future lies with David, and not with a silly old buffer like me. (Pause) One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. (Pause) Goodbye, Susan. Goodbye, my dear.

As the First Doctor sets the TARDIS in motion, a sinister laugh echoes from the person watching the monitor screen. With a press of a switch at a control panel, the First Doctor in the TARDIS vanishes on the monitor screen. The villain presses another switch at the control panel, and the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe in the TARDIS, during the tenth and final episode of ‘The War Games’, are shown on the monitor screen.

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
It was the Time Lords.

ZOE (V’O)
But they’re your own people, aren’t they, Doctor?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
Yes, that’s right.

JAMIE (V’O)
Why did you run away from them in the first place?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
I was bored.

ZOE (V’O)
What do you mean, you were bored?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
Well, the Time Lords are an immensely civilised race. We can control our own environment. We can live forever, barring accidents, and we have the secret of space time travel.

JAMIE (V’O)
What’s so wrong in all that?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
We hardly ever use our great powers! We consent simply to observe and gather knowledge.

ZOE (V’O)
And that wasn’t enough for you?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
No, of course not. With a whole galaxy to explore? Millions of planets, eons of time, countless civilisations to meet?

JAMIE (V’O)
Well, why do they object to you doing all that?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
Well, it is a fact, Jamie, that I…I do tend to get involved with things.

JAMIE (V’O)
Aye, you can say that again!

At that, the villain presses a switch on the control panel, and the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe vanish off the monitor screen. Pressing another switch at the control panel, the monitor screen changes to show the Third Doctor and Jo in the TARDIS at the end of ‘Planet of the Daleks’.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
Jo, look. That’s Skaro.

JO (V’O)
Yes.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
Any regrets?

JO (V’O)
No, not really.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
But, Jo, that’s only one little world. There’s so many hundreds of others to see.

JO (V’O)
(gradually) There’s only one little world I want to see right now.

Jo changes the image on the TARDIS scanner.

JO (V’O)
That one.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
That one? But, Jo, that’s Earth.

JO (V’O)
That’s right, Doctor, home.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
(gradually; smiles) Home it is, Miss Grant.

The villain presses a switch on the control panel to take the Third Doctor and Jo out of Space and Time. He laughs away again, full of triumph.
