Chapter 9
SCENE #97 – INT – CONTROL HUB, NEPTUNE CONNECT MAIN BUILDING – DAY, AFTERNOON
CYBER LEADER
Do not move. You will obey instructions. You will stand against the wall. Move.
DOCTOR
We’re moving. You have us at your mercy.
Billy gets pushed about by the Cybermen, as he and the Doctor are made to stand against the wall.
BILLY
(angrily) Alright, alright! No need to be so pushy!
DOCTOR
(quietly; reassuringly) Billy, I promise you. We’ll get Nyssa back.
BILLY
(anxiously) They’re going to turn her into one of them, aren’t they? She’ll end up becoming a Cyberman. (distressed) I don’t want to lose her, Doctor. I can’t bear the thought of losing her!
DOCTOR
(reassuringly) We’re not going to lose her, Billy. Not Nyssa. (determined) I’m not going to lose any more friends to the Cybermen. I’ll see to that, no matter what. You understand?
BILLY
The odds are against us, Doctor. We’re in the midst of trouble.
DOCTOR
I know, Billy, I know. But trust me. You do trust me, don’t you?
BILLY
Of course I do, Doctor. It’s just…I want to escape now. So that we can go and find Nyssa.
DOCTOR
We will, Billy, we will. We’ll find a way out of this.
Just then, the Cyber Leader approaches the Doctor and Billy.
CYBER LEADER
You are next for conversion. (to Cybermen) You two. Take the Doctor and his companion and put them in line for the conversion chambers. They will become like us.
Two Cybermen march forward and drag the Doctor and Billy with them to the conversion chambers where they’re being powered up.
BILLY
(cries; protests) No! Let us go! You can’t do this! Let us go!
DOCTOR
Don’t panic, Billy! Trust me, don’t panic!
Just then, Betty and Jamie return with guns in their hands.
BETTY
(cries) Hey! Let go of our friends or else we fire!
CYBER LEADER
You two are interfering with the conversion process. Desist. Desist.
JAMIE
You heard what Betty said! Let our friends go or else we fire!
CYBER LEADER
(to Cybermen) Take these two. They too will be processed and become like us.
BETTY
You asked for it!
With that, Betty and Jamie open fire. Once they fire their guns, the Cybermen blow up. They end up groaning and collapsing to the floor.
BETTY
(cries) Doctor! Billy! Get over here!
The Doctor and Billy make their way over to join them.
DOCTOR
(surprised) Betty! Jamie! I thought you two had gone when we were making a run for it earlier.
BETTY
We couldn’t go without finding out what happened to you, Nyssa and Billy. It’s just as well we came back.
DOCTOR
You two couldn’t have timed it better.
JAMIE
We’ll celebrate later, Doctor. Right now, let’s run!
BETTY
Yeah, Doctor! Let’s go while we still can.
DOCTOR
Alright, alright! I’m not dilly-dallying on purpose.
BILLY
Wait! What about Nyssa? Perhaps we should try the teleport…
DOCTOR
(interjects) Our best hope is to find Nyssa once we’re back in the TARDIS. That’s probably where she and the Cybermen have ended up.
BILLY
But, Doctor…
DOCTOR
(interjects) Besides, Billy, I’ve noticed the Cybermen blocked access to the teleport system before Betty and Jamie arrived. Even if we could regain access to it, we won’t have time to initiate the system with so many Cybermen in the area.
Just then, some Cybermen recover, as they get up from the floor.
BETTY
(nervously) Err, speaking of Cybermen…
JAMIE
Let’s get our butts outta here, huh?
DOCTOR
Come on, Billy. We’ll find Nyssa once we’re back inside the TARDIS, right?
BILLY
Alright, Doctor. We’ll do it your way. Let’s get out of here quickly!
The Doctor and Billy run for it with Betty and Jamie, as they make their way out of the control hub and out of the Neptune Connect building. Meanwhile, the Cyber Leader recovers and assesses the damage.
CYBER LEADER
Control hub not heavily damaged. (to Cybermen) Reports from all units required. Repeat, reports from all units required.
NEPTUNE CYBERMAN #4
Several units have been damaged. Two destroyed by gunfire. Minimal casualties verified.
CYBER LEADER
Satisfactory. Cyber Control aboard the TARDIS must be alerted of this latest development. The Cyber Controller must be informed.
NEPTUNE CYBERMAN #5
I shall lead a patrol to retrieve the Doctor and his associates. They will be recaptured or terminated.
CYBER LEADER
Nothing must be allowed to interrupt our stratagem. It is close to completion. We will survive. The Cybermen must survive.
