‘FOOD FIGHT’ (MMPR)

Yes, this is a ‘Power Rangers’ episode as you would expect it to be from the title. An actual food fight happens in this episode. 😀 Again, another filler. There are times when the story can be a little silly in places, but when it comes to Rita’s monster eating food and attacking people, the plot is plausible. 🙂

In the episode, the Angel Grove Youth Center hosts a Cultural Food Festival to raise money for playground equipment. Unsurprisingly, the five Power Ranger teens are helping out. Things go well at first, before Bulk and Skull cause trouble by throwing custard pies, and thus a food fight ensues. 😐

This is where things become too very comedic and silly. The food fight goes on for quite a while and it doesn’t make sense regarding why Bulk and Skull caused the food fight, apart from being bullies. The Rangers’ efforts to stop the food fight are also wasted, as they get the blame for it by Mr. Caplan.

I don’t know why Mr. Caplan blamed the five teens for the mess caused by the food fight. It should’ve been Bulk and Skull who got the blame. Then again, it did get silly when Zack used Bulk in a bull-like fight to set him off-balance as well as Jason using sausages. It became too crazy for my liking.

The episode’s main plot is interesting, as Rita Repulsa sends in the ravenous Pudgy Pig to eat everything in sight. Pudgy is merely a monster who eats anything. He seems unthreatening at first, but when Zordon says Pudgy would likely eat all of Earth’s food supplies, that’s when it gets serious.

Pudgy even consumes the Power Rangers’ weapons when they fight him. It raises the tension up for a little bit. I liked that the Rangers solved the problem by seeing the ‘hot’ food left uneaten by Pudgy. The food contains hot spices like radishes, and the Rangers use it as a weakness against Pudgy Pig. 🙂

Apparently, Pudgy Pig would go on to be one of the most recognised and memorable monsters in the ‘Power Rangers’ series. I’m amazed Pudgy Pig had such an impact. 😀 The episode ends with Mr. Caplan buying a sandwich from the Rangers that has a spicy radish in it. It becomes too hot for him. 😀

‘Food Fight’ is another average filler episode in the ‘Power Rangers’ series. It’s entertaining in places, even though it can get a little silly with the actual food fight at the food festival. This is also one of the rarest ‘Power Rangers’ episodes in the first season where the Zords aren’t used during a battle. 🙂

‘Food Fight’ (MMPR) rating – 6/10
