‘THE MORECAMBE & WISE CHRISTMAS SHOW 1969’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

It’s time to bring some sunshine for Christmas with Morecambe & Wise! It wouldn’t be Christmas without Morecambe & Wise, would it?! I enjoyed the BBC Christmas collection of ‘Morecambe & Wise’ Christmas Specials when my parents and I saw the original 3-disc DVD collection of 8 special episodes.
These Christmas Specials feature Eric and Ernie’s comedy antics and I really enjoy watching them at Christmas time when they do their comedy gags and sketches with various guests stars. I used to watch the duo when my parents had some VHS tapes of them that featured some of their best sketches.
Of course not all of my favourite scenes of Morecambe & Wise are in the Christmas collection of their BBC TV show from 1966 and 1977. But it was still a delight to watch them on DVD back in 2008. Morecambe & Wise were a hit variety double act that you don’t want to miss out on over Christmas time!
I found the early Christmas episodes of ‘The Morecambe & Wise Show’ from the BBC to be less exciting than the later ones. But they’re still enjoyable to watch all the same and they feature some fantastic guests that I hadn’t expected to see when watching them first time on DVD which is amazing.
The first Christmas Special of the collection from 1969 is not the best one I’ve seen. But it’s a good start into the ‘Morecambe & Wise’ viewing over Christmas and it’s reasonably amusing in some places.
The guest stars in this Christmas Special are as follows. They are the singers Frankie Vaughan and Nina and Sacha Distel; song group The Pattersons; actress Fenella Fielding and Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen.
I enjoyed Kenny Ball’s jazz music with his band in this episode. You can tell Eric and Ernie have a fondness for the classic jazz music from the 1930s and 40s like Glenn Miller and it’s my Dad’s favourite music.
I enjoyed Sacha Distel’s rendition of ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On Head’. I know that song very well from watching ‘Spider-Man 2’. I didn’t realise that this song was made way before ‘Spider-Man 2’ was made. 😀
This was the first time that I had seen Fenella Fielding in anything too. She’s really funny when she makes romantic advances on Ernie, to which he is shell-shocked by. She also takes part in his play about Nelson.
‘The Morecambe & Wise Christmas Show 1969’ rating – 6/10
