‘THE SUPREMO SHOW’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

It’s time for Series 3 of ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’ and we begin with the show’s biggest change! Solly has left the Concert Party and returned to Blighty. George Layton didn’t return for the rest of ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’ and only appeared in two seasons. I’m not sure why he decided to leave the series. 😐
Though he did go on to co-write and co-star in the BBC comedy series ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. Lately, he’s been in ‘Doctor Who’ audios like ‘The Havoc of Empires’ and ‘The Quest of the Engineer’. He’s also been in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV story ‘The Space Pirates’, which currently has only one episode in existence.
A lot of fuss is made about Solly’s leaving at the beginning of the episode and who’s going to take over from him. Gloria is a possible contender, though he doesn’t exactly match to Solly’s standards. Graham considers the possibility of him as an intellectual taking over, which the Sgt-Major overhears.
There’s also the start of the routine of Rangi Ram breaking the fourth wall to us at the beginning and at the end of the episode. This was something that happened a few times at the end of episodes in Series 2, but this is very likely where the inspiration for Rene’s character in ‘Allo, ‘Allo’ came from. 😀
In the episode, Colonel Reynolds and Captain Ashwood are in hospital. Whilst they’re out of the way, the Sgt-Major is in charge and takes the mean-spirited opportunity to post the Concert Party ‘up the jungle’. Thankfully, this doesn’t last long. Rangi Ram gets to go into the hospital to tell the Colonel. 🙂
Once the Colonel hears of this, he puts his foot down, as the Sgt-Major has to bring the Concert Party back to put on a special performance for the Supremo, a ‘very important person’ visiting the Royal Artillery Depot in Deolali. It was funny when the Sgt-Major was summoned to see the Colonel.
Rangi Ram has to keep spraying a lot of disinfectant onto the Sgt-Major who wears a green net whilst talking to Colonel Reynolds and Captain Ashwood at the hospital. The result is the Sgt-Major ending up green in the face once he has the net taken off. I had no idea that disinfectant can do that.
The Concert Party are happy to put on a show for the Supremo, but Gloria sprains his ankle during the rehearsals. In the end, the Sgt-Major replaces him as the star’s drag act, which has to be seen to be believed. 😀 Richard Grant plays the titular Supremo whilst Ahmed Khalil plays the hospital’s doctor.
‘The Supremo Show’ rating – 8/10
