Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out my absolute favourite Fourth Doctor/Tom Baker era ‘Doctor Who’ story. Here we are on ‘City of Death’, a four-part story by ‘David Agnew’ (pseudonym for David Fisher, Douglas Adams and Graham Williams). This is the second story in the classic TV series of ‘Doctor Who’, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Lalla Ward as Romana. There are also special guest stars like Julian Glover, Catherine Schell, Tom Chadbon, David Graham, Peter Halliday, John Cleese and Eleanor Bron. ‘City of Death’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox.

    Hello again Tim,
    City of Death is one of my earliest Doctor Who Memories.
    I was 5 when I saw it. I was absolutely terrified of Scaroth the Jagaroth. So much so, that I watched the repeat through a crack in the door of the front room! I called him the ‘spaghetti monster’.

      Good to hear from you on my blog. This is the first time you’ve left a comment on my blog, I believe. The first of many, I hope.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts on ‘City of Death’. This is my absolute favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Tom Baker/Fourth Doctor era. I’m sure you were terrified of Scaroth when you saw him for the first time and on the repeat. Yes, ‘spaghetti monster’ suits him well, but does he have more spaghetti than the Ood? 😀 I’ve included the Jagoroth’s sister-species the Macorinroth in the character of Sinroth in my first ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Railway of Time’, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy. 🙂

      The Scaroth reveal at the end of Pt. 1 is indeed chilling and timeless. The ‘spaghetti monster’ is a most interesting name to call him.
