‘OTHER VICTORIES’
Please feel free to comment on my review.
This is the penultimate story in the ‘Beast Wars’ TV series. It resolves a certain plot arc involving the mysterious aliens that attacked the planet Earth in ‘Other Voices’ and ‘Other Visits’. In this episode, the aliens are revealed to be the Vok and they appear as floating skulls.
This episode also features the return of Tigatron and Airazor, who I was looking forward to seeing again following ‘Other Visits’. Unfortunately, the two Maximals return as Tigerhawk, a Transmetal II Fuzor that can transform from a tiger-falcon into a robot and vice versa.
I was disappointed with this return for Tigatron and Airazor, since I was hoping to see them return as themselves in Transmetal forms and not as a combined being. At least Blu Mankuma, the voice actor for Tigatron in the ‘Beast Wars’ TV series, gets to voice Tigerhawk.
I’ve also fond memories playing with the Tigerhawk toy along with the Transmetal II dragon Megatron toy. 🙂 I’m disappointed with the realisation of the Vok as floating skulls, since I would have preferred them as mysterious and not have physical forms like in previous stories.
This episode is notable for the Vok returning to Earth and destroying the Predacons’ base. They use Tigerhawk as an emissary of the Vok with the intention of destroying Megatron. There’s a pretty exciting and tense fight scene between Megatron and Tigerhawk in the episode.
In a state of panic, Optimus Primal flies out to stop the Vok from destroying Megatron. This is because Megatron still has the spark of the original Decepticon leader Megatron within him. If the Vok destroy the Predacon leader Megaton, it will cause a huge time-storm.
The Vok get rid of Optimus Primal by sending him underground. Tigerhawk is soon captured by Tarantulas, who wants to extract the Vok influence out from him. Unfortunately, it becomes his undoing, and this story sees Tarantulas destroyed for good.
Cheetor saves Tigerhawk whilst Tarantulas’ lair is being destroyed. Optimus Primal escapes his underground prison and catches up with Cheetor in time to see Tigatron and Airazor’s combined sparks enter Tigerhawk. 🙂 Tigerhawk soon reunites with the Maximals.
