3. “Welcome to Junglos!”
SCENE #27 – EXT – WALDO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
On the planet Junglos, Lo-Jo and his away team, which includes Morg, Pike and Jason, survey a courtyard of stone within the midst of a rainforest. They use tracorders to collect their data.
LO-JO
Welcome, Jason. Welcome to Junglos.
JASON
It’s more beautiful here than when I saw the planet on the viewscreen of the Hispaniola. I’m glad I came.
LO-JO
As am I that you did, lad. (Pause) Morg; Pike, what say the tracorders?
Morg and Pike check their tracorders before they give their reports to Lo-Jo.
MORG
Atmosphere’s fine, Lo-Jo! Elements of nitrogen, hydrogen and helium are radiant in the oxygen. There’s bound to be a likelihood of procuring psychic dentritis in the air.
JASON
Psychic dentritis? Is that highly contagious
PIKE
(reassuringly) No need to worry, Master Drodo. It’s normal with abundant elements contained in hot atmospheres on a planet like this. Psychic dentritis can only occur when you’re fast asleep.
LO-JO
Well, the sooner we get on with this task, the sooner we get….the sooner we get the heck off this cursed planet!
JASON
“Why do you want to get off it, Lo-Jo? It’s lush here! See how the trees grow splendidly and how nature thrives!”
LO-JO
(wearingly) “Planets of this sort can play funny tricks on the mind, lad. As well as in space. We must be cautious wherever we go!”
MORG
“I’d like to know what this walled place is before we can go!”
At that moment, Lo-Jo takes out the map from his pocket. He opens it up and a holographic image appears. Lo-Jo, Jason, Morg and Pike exclaim in awe and wonder.
LO-JO
According to the map, we’re standing on the once great lost outpost of Waldo! See! These greyish-black walls confirm it, ye lads! The dragon-head on the wall represents the power of fire! The eagle body and wings represent the strength and the circle emphasises Waldo’s life-cycle!
JASON
How fascinating!
MORG
(cries) “Look! The symbol, Lo-Jo! It’s vanishing!”
They all see the symbol fading off the great wall and become horrified.
LO-JO
(surprised) “Well, by the powers! Where has that symbol of power gone to?!”
PIKE
(jokingly) “Perhaps the dragon-eagle fuzor got tired being stuck to the wall and ran away!”
Pike laughs out loud before Morg punches him in the back.
PIKE
(reacts in pain) “Hey?! What was that for, Morg?!”
MORG
(ignores Pike; to Lo-Jo) “We must carry on exploring these parts, Lo-Jo! Before any more trouble comes!”
LO-JO
“Agreed.” (to Pike) “You! Pike! Take Master Drodo with you and check the waters! See that the rivers aren’t infectious!”
PIKE
“Right you are, Lo-Jo!”
JASON
“But…Lo-Jo…”
LO-JO
“Now, now, Jason lad! Don’t ye worry! Pike won’t harm you! He’ll keep you safe I’m sure! Do go! Lest you wish us all to die of thirst!”
Jason contemplates for a moment.
JASON
(sighs) “Very well.”
PIKE
“Come on, Master Drodo! I’ll show you how to use a tracorder as we go. You use the synchromatic meter [to track any level of activity within the boundaries of…”]
Pike keeps chatting away, as he and Jason go off to find a river. Whilst they’ve gone, Lo-Jo and Morg turn their attention to the great walls of Waldo.
LO-JO
“Morg! We’re going to have to blow up these walls once Doromir and that clown Deletos get here!”
MORG
“I know how well your mind works, Lo-Jo!”
LO-JO
“So, Morg! You will have to plant one of your demolition charges underneath this wall here. Blow it up when I command you to.”
Morg makes his way over to the specified wall. Once he’s there, Morg takes out two demolition charges from his pocket. He kneels down and places a charge on each side of the wall before he primes them. After he primes the charges, Morg stands up and returns to Lo-Jo.
MORG
“Done it! Ready to rock and roll!”
LO-JO
“You set the charges in the correct positions with the correct settings?”
MORG
“Relax! We’ll be able to have every opportunity to block a path between Doromir and us!”
LO-JO
“We’ll be bringing Master Drodo with us as well, Morg!”
MORG
“Young Master Drodo?! What do we need him for? He’s just a liability!”
LO-JO
“He deserves his share in our acquisition, Jason does. And…I’ve grown quite fond of the lad.”
MORG
“I can’t think why.”
LO-JO
“It’s not for you to think, is it?!”
Moment of tense silence.
MORG
“It won’t be easy mind! To separate him from the captain once he and Deletos are with us!”
Before Lo-Jo can respond, a struggle occurs from within the rainforest as Jason and Pike return, bringing back a certain person with them. This happens to be Dynda, Dr. Nett’s assistant, and she’s carrying a rucksack with her.
DYNDA
(shouts; protests) “Let go! Let go of me, you creeps!”
Jason and Pike bring Dynda with them as they present her to Lo-Jo and Morg.
MORG
“What’s this you found, Pike?! Some savage in fresh clothing?”
DYNDA
“I’m not a savage!”
LO-JO
“I told you to collect readings, Pike! Not collect specimens!”
JASON
“That’s what we were about to do! But we found her just sitting next to a river looking out of sorts!”
Dynda struggles as she almost breaks free from Jason and Pike, but is held tight.
DYNDA
(struggles) “I am not…a specimen!”
MORG
Here, lad! Pike and I will hold her!
Morg takes over from Jason, as he and Pike hold Dynda in their grasp. Jason re-joins Lo-Jo, who looks at Dynda with interest. Dynda continues to struggle between the two pirates holding her.
LO-JO
Hmm. (chuckles) I shall not do anything to her. I’ll let the captain decide.
Lo-Jo takes out his pocket communicator and switches it on to make contact with Doromir.
SCENE #28 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Meanwhile aboard the TARDIS, things become frantic as the Doctor presses switches at the console whilst the cloister bell tolls away. Nyssa and Billy surround the console whilst the Doctor’s focused on the task at hand.
NYSSA
Doctor! One of the TARDIS components must be malfunctioning! But I’m sure I’d set the…
DOCTOR
No, Nyssa. It’s more serious than that. Something’s dragging the TARDIS off course. I had to deactivate the drift compensators in order to avoid blowing up the ship.
BILLY
(baffled) “Dragging off course?! What’s that supposed to mean?”
DOCTOR
“I don’t know! Some…kind of force has penetrated the TARDIS! It might have been the same force that penetrated the TARDIS before when we rescued Jane Austen! Only something rather diverse!”
NYSSA
“Can’t we dematerialise?”
DOCTOR
Yes, I’m sure we can! Though it would mean redirecting the directional controls to securing a solid formation within the known universe. Err…perhaps a planetoid or a cosmic anomaly to re-establish causal reality and stability!
BILLY
I didn’t quite catch all of that, Doctor! Do you mean to say that…the TARDIS is going all over the place because we’re lost in…causal reality?
NYSSA
It could be due to our stabilising so long in hover mode! The temporal systems may have malfunctioned due to the drainage of power!
DOCTOR
Hold on! I’m going to try to initiate the emergency power booster!
BILLY
(intrigued) The emergency power booster?!
NYSSA
The booster’s meant to break a path for the TARDIS to escape the white void beyond reality.
DOCTOR
And with it, we should be able to hold onto physical reality. (Pause) Hold on! We’re going to escape the temporal plane now!
The Doctor presses a switch before the TARDIS lurches forward. Nyssa and Billy hold on.
SCENE #29 – EXT – WALDO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Back on the planet Junglos, a super jeep drives through the rainforests. It comes to a stop at the Walls of Waldo. Once parked, Captain Doromir and Deletos get out of the jeep and approach Lo-Jo Sil with Jason, Morg and Pike as they hold Dynda. Lo-Jo salutes as Doromir with Deletos approach.
LO-JO
(salutes) Ah! Aye, aye, Captain Doromir!
MORG
(cheers) Yeah! Aye, Captain!
DOROMIR
“What’s all this about, Mr. Sil? We had to park the ship in Lenzia before we could drive up to Waldo! Who is this girl?”
LO-JO
“As you can see, we found this woman with rucksack and all wandering in the jungle on her own, sir!”
JASON
“She was by a river, Captain!”
Dynda struggles to break free, whilst she’s held by Morg and Pike.
DOROMIR
(to Dynda) “It’s no good trying to escape, dear madam! My men are heavily armed!”
DYNDA
“I’m not your ‘dear madam’, mate! I’m Dynda, assistant to Dr. Gun Nett of Scientific Research! And I demand to know what you’ve done to him!”
DELETOS
(whispers; to Doromir) “Dr. Gun Nett! The scientist working on this planet to find a cure to all those diseased people back home, Captain!”
DOROMIR
(agitated) “Yes thank you, Mr. Deletos!” (to Dynda) “What were you doing when my men found you, Miss…Dynda, was it?”
DYNDA
“I was looking for Dr. Nett! And I want to know what you’ve done to him, you homicidal scoundrels!”
JASON
(protests) “We didn’t do anything to your Dr. Nett, Miss….?”
DYNDA
“Dynda! Scientific assistant Dynda! And don’t go all innocent with me, kid! I know the look of guilty faces when I see them! You’re hiding Dr. Nett’s corpse from me!”
LO-JO
“The lad speaks plain truth, Mistress Dynda! We’ve done nothing! We’ve only just got here!”
DYNDA
“I don’t believe you!”
DELETOS
“It’s true, madam!”
DOROMIR
“When did you last see Dr. Nett, Miss Dynda?”
Moment of silence, as Dynda calms down.
DYNDA
(gradually) “Yesterday I saw him. We were working on generating the particles in one of the mud pools. We’ve examined the mud for quite some time. It contains miraculous properties which we determined…”
DOROMIR
(interrupts) “I know of Dr. Nett’s experiments, Miss Dynda. I was briefed on what you and your employer have been doing here.”
DYNDA
(bitterly) “Then you should know that I’ve sent my report to the authorities when I went back to our hut!” (Pause) “Dr. Nett wanted to stay behind at the mud pool. I realised he hadn’t returned once it was nightfall. So I went back to check on him. I’ve been out all night trying to search for him! All night with no food, no sleep and no where to go to the toilet! What have you got to say to that, Captain?!”
DELETOS
“Don’t blame Captain Doromir! It’s not his fault you were up all night with very little conveniences!”
DOROMIR
“Miss Dynda! We’ll do all we can to help you find Dr. Nett!”
DYNDA
“Help me?! Why should I trust you! I don’t even know who you are!”
LO-JO
“This is all a waste of time, Captain Doromir!”
PIKE
“Yeah! Shouldn’t we be heading off to find that treasure?”
DYNDA
“Treasure?”
MORG
“Keep your trap shut, Pike! That business is ours!”
Orio the Parrot squawks.
LO-JO
“And you can shut up as well, bird!”
ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “Rattle my bones! Rattle my bones!” (squawks)
LO-JO
“Shut up!”
JASON
“We’ll help you, Miss Dynda!”
DYNDA
“Thanks! But I don’t need help from the likes of you!”
LO-JO
(awed) “Look, Captain! The tower of Ungol is before us! Hope you got that sword of yours, Jason lad!”
ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “Rattle my bones! Rattle my bones!” (squawks)
LO-JO
“I said shut up, Orio!”
DELETOS
(abruptly) “Captain Doromir!”
DOROMIR
(agitated) “What is it now, Mr. Deletos?”
DELETOS
(out loud) “Everyone, listen!”
Everyone listens as the whooshing, grinding sound of the TARDIS echoes in the breezing air. It grows louder and louder, as it seems close at bay to where Captain Doromir and his crew are.
PIKE
“Is that…is it that sound?”
MORG
“It can’t be!”
The TARDIS materialisation sound grows more loudly, as everyone pauses for breath.
ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) Rattle my bones! Rattle my bones! (squawks)
Whilst everyone listens to the TARDIS materializing close by, a trail of thick mud quietly slithers nearby.
SCENE #30 – INT – TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM – N/A
Inside the TARDIS, the ship materialises with a thump and a ding. The Doctor switches on the scanner. The scanner screen rises up, allowing the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy to see what’s outside.
BILLY
It’s a jungle! We’ve landed in the middle of a jungle!
NYSSA
This must have been what the TARDIS was about to latch onto when it dropped out of hover mode. (to Doctor) What do the chronometers and geometers say, Doctor?
The Doctor checks the instruments and presses switches and buttons on the TARDIS console to assess where and when they are. After a while…
DOCTOR
(vexed) “This can’t be right! It just can’t be!” (Pause) “We…we’re not anywhere!”
BILLY
“What?! Not anywhere! That’s ridiculous!”
NYSSA
“You must be teasing, Doctor!”
DOCTOR
“No I mean it, Nyssa! The TARDIS instruments say…the chronometers and geometers say that we’re nowhere and no time!”
NYSSA
“But…we’re here, Doctor! Outside the TARDIS is a tropical rainforest!”
BILLY
“We must be somewhere, surely!”
The Doctor immediately goes over to the hat-stand and fetches his hat before he activates the door lever on the TARDIS console. The internal doors open.
DOCTOR
“I’m going outside!”
NYSSA
“Is that wise? We haven’t checked for radiation or heat levels!”
DOCTOR
“I must see what’s out there!”
With that, the Doctor instantly leaves the TARDIS.
BILLY
“It can’t be safe to go out there!”
NYSSA
“Maybe not. But I don’t want the Doctor to go out there by himself.”
Nyssa immediately follows after the Doctor as she leaves the TARDIS.
BILLY
(calls) “Hey! Wait up!”
Billy follows Nyssa, leaving the TARDIS too.
SCENE #31 – EXT – WALDO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Outside, Nyssa and Billy step out of the TARDIS to join the Doctor. Great stone walls stand before them and wildlife echoes in the background, as the TARDIS trio look around.
BILLY
“Lush!”
NYSSA
“It’s beautiful! It’s a natural haven!”
BILLY
“Reminds me of those tropical rainforests they have on Earth. Like the Amazon rainforest in South America. I’ve seen pictures of them in books!” (Pause) “We must be on Earth!”
DOCTOR
“No, Billy! This is not Earth!”
BILLY
“Hey Doctor?”
DOCTOR
“This is not Earth!”
NYSSA
“You can’t be sure of that, Doctor. We happen to have landed on Earth many times in the past!”
DOCTOR
“Nyssa, the TARDIS geometers and chronometers specifically stated that we’re nowhere and no time! Therefore we should be on a planet that’s absolutely non-existent!”
BILLY
“It’s real to me! The ground surface; the breeze in the air; the smell of the trees…”
DOCTOR
“I don’t mean physical existence, Billy! I meant temporal causal reality!”
BILLY
(puzzled) “Okay. That’s a bit deep for me, Doctor.”
Nyssa goes over to look at the stone walls before them.
NYSSA
“Doctor, these walls must be old! They look to be well over a few thousand years old!”
DOCTOR
“Four thousand years to be precise, Nyssa.”
NYSSA
“How can you tell?”
DOCTOR
“I see things with keen eyes, Nyssa! Time Lords are able to project and detect the amount of age in this stone. It must have been standing a long time to let all the weeds grow.”
BILLY
“It’s not like anything I’ve ever before. I don’t suppose they have walls of solid stone like this back in the Amazon.”
DOCTOR
“I wonder. I just wonder…”
BILLY
“Whether we’re back on Earth?”
DOCTOR
“No. I wonder how it’s been to achieve a life-span for four thousand years. Even when the geometers and chronometers in the TARDIS couldn’t register this planet in the databank.”
NYSSA
“You think there’s some significance in this don’t you, Doctor.”
But before the Doctor can answer, a shot is fired.
DOCTOR
(cries) “Down!”
The TARDIS trio duck down to the ground.
BILLY
“Whoa! What was that?!”
The TARDIS trio are then held at gunpoint by Morg, Pike, Lo-Jo and Deletos who come out of hiding. They raise their laser pistols at them.
MORG
“Stay where you are, squid-sucking buccaneers!”
PIKE
“Yeah! Don’t try any funny business!”
DOCTOR
(cries) “Nyssa; Billy! Let’s get up from the ground, shall we? And hands up!”
The Doctor, Nyssa and Billy get up off the ground and raise their hands up in the air. Morg, Pike, Lo-Jo and Deletos approach, laser-pistols still trained on the TARDIS trio.
DELETOS
“Do as we bid scoundrels or else we shall fire!”
DOCTOR
(cries; reassuringly) “It’s alright! You don’t have to shoot! We’re not carrying any weapons! No weapons! No weapons at all! We’re unarmed!”
BILLY
“Look at those legs of that man! Are they robotic?”
LO-JO
“Oi! Don’t you say anything about my legs, boy! They’re the finest legs I ever had!”
NYSSA
“Billy, you shouldn’t say things like that about a cyborg!”
BILLY
“Sorry I spoke.”
LO-JO
“I’m not a cyborg, missie! I’m a real space-sailor as ever was born!”
DELETOS
“State your names sirs; madam and what your purpose is here?”
DOCTOR
“Strange coincidence, that! We were going to ask the very same thing! Weren’t we Billy; Nyssa?!”
Captain Doromir then turns up with Jason and Dynda behind him.
DOROMIR
“Mr. Deletos! You caught them I see!”
DELETOS
“Yes, sir! They don’t seem to be carrying any arms on them!”
LO-JO
“Could be a trick, sir! They could carry something under their sleeve!”
NYSSA
(pleadingly) “Please, you have nothing to fear! We’re not going to kill you!”
MORG
“Quiet, girl!”
DOROMIR
(to Dynda) “Miss Dynda? Do you recognise them?”
Dynda steps forward to take a closer look at the TARDIS trio.
DYNDA
“No! But I’m sure to find out!” (to Doctor) “What have you done to Dr. Nett, you crook?!”
DOCTOR
“Err…a simple hello would be nice to begin with! And may I have a cup of tea, please? A little biscuit will be nice too!”
NYSSA
“Doctor!”
DOCTOR
(mock-surprise) “Oh! Don’t they know how to boil a kettle?”
DYNDA
(angrily) “Answer my question, dog!”
DOCTOR
“I’m not a dog, madam! Nor a puppy! Not a cat for that matter!”
NYSSA
“Doctor! You’re starting to annoy them!”
DOROMIR
Miss Dynda! I’ll handle this!
DYNDA
Be my guest!
Dynda reluctantly steps aside.
BILLY
(whispers; to Nyssa) They don’t seem to be the friendly type, do they?
NYSSA
(whispers; to Billy) Sadly not, Billy. I afraid I concur.
DOROMIR
Silence! (Pause) I am Captain Doromir! Do not try to bandy words with me lest you wish to feel the wrath of my sword… and pistol!
DOCTOR
Oh no! We wouldn’t want that! (cheerily) Very nice to meet you I’m sure, Captain Doromir! I’m the Doctor!
Everyone gasps, except the TARDIS trio.
MORG
“It’s true then! This is the Doctor! He is the Doctor!”
NYSSA
(surprised) “You know him?!”
LO-JO
“He has come to bring a curse upon us! He has come to kill us all!”
DOCTOR
“No. Not really. Just passing.”
MORG
“I say…we should kill him now!”
BILLY
(protests) “What?! No!”
Before anyone else can debate, arrows are fired as they hit a few palm trees close to where they are. Everyone is startled by the arrows hitting the palm trees.
NYSSA
(shocked) “What was that?! What’s happening?!”
Everyone turns to see wild savages approaching them from the rain forest.
PIKE
(terrified) “No! No! Savages! Savages are coming!”
MORG
“It’s the Gren! The Gren!”
DOCTOR
“Excuse me? The Gren?”
JASON
“What are we going to do?!”
Everyone watches in horror as the ferocious savages charge towards them, howling and screaming and carrying their spears with them.
LO-JO
“Quick Jason! Come with us!”
Lo-Jo grabs hold of Jason and drags him off with him. Jason cries before a hand wraps around his mouth.
JASON
(cries, muffled) “Help! Captain!”
Lo-Jo has his hand around Jason’s mouth as he runs with him into the rainforest.
DELETOS
“Captain! The boy!”
DOROMIR
“Mr. Sil! Bring that boy back this instant!”
Lo-Jo disregards Doromir’s commands, as he calls out to his pirates.
LO-JO
(calls) “Morg! Pike! Come on! We must set the charges off before those savages get here!”
DOROMIR
(cries) “Mr. Sil! Come back this instant! I order you!”
DOCTOR
(cries) “Uh, Captain! I suggest we get away from here as well if it’s not too much to ask!”
MORG
(calls; to Lo-Jo) “Aye, Lo-Jo! We’re coming!”
PIKE
(calls; to Lo-Jo) “Yes! And we’ll take this girl with us!”
Pike instantly grabs hold of Nyssa and drags her off with him, as he and Morg follow Lo-Jo with Jason. Nyssa cries out for help as she struggles in Pike’s grip.
NYSSA
(cries) “Get off me! Let me go!”
BILLY
(shouts) “Hey! Let her go, you creeps!” (calls; to Nyssa) “Nyssa! Nyssa, I’m coming!”
DOCTOR
(cries) “Billy, come back here!”
BILLY
(cries) “No! I must save Nyssa from those scoundrels!” (calls; to Nyssa) “Nyssa!”
Billy runs off after Nyssa in order to save her.
DELETOS
“We must get away, Captain! Those savages will be onto us!”
DYNDA
“Never mind about those savages! What are we to do about Dr. Nett?!”
DELETOS
“Your Dr. Nett will have to wait, madam! Since we’ve now lost Jason too!”
A dilemma ensues, as the Gren savages come charging for an attack.
LO-JO
(shouts) “Now Morg! Do it now!”
MORG
“Right you are, Lo-Jo!”
Morg takes out the detonator and is about to set off the explosives.
DYNDA
“Look! That fiend’s got a detonator! He’s going to blow this place up!”
DOCTOR
(panics) “No! I can’t let Nyssa and Billy be killed!”
The Doctor runs forward, but gets held by Deletos.
DELETOS
Oh no! You’re coming with us, Doctor!
DOCTOR
(protests) No!
But it’s too late, as Morg presses the switch on the detonator and the charges explode. This causes the walls to crumble down to the ground. Nyssa, Billy, Morg, Pike, Lo-Jo and Jason cry out in terror, as the walls crumble around them.
DOCTOR
(shouts) Nyssa; Billy! Look out!
The walls then tumble down, whilst the Doctor is dragged off by Deletos with Captain Doromir and Dynda.
DELETOS
(cries) Come with us, Doctor!
DOCTOR
(cries) “Get off me! Let me go!”
DOROMIR
(shouts) “Everyone! Jump!”
Doromir, Deletos, Dynda and the Doctor jump for it, as they fall down some steeps hills and tumble away from the crumbling walls of Waldos. As the walls collapse, the Gren savages turn up and howl angrily as they lose their chance to attack their victims. They soon run off and disperse from the now ruined walls of Waldo.
SCENE #32 – EXT – WALDO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Down below at the foot of Waldo, the Doctor, Dynda, Doromir and Deletos cry out as they tumble and land on the hard ground. Wild birds and jungle creatures fill in the silence with their squawks and noises, once all four are on the ground. They slowly get up, recovering from the experience.
DYNDA
(exhausted) “Well! I hope never to do that again!”
The Doctor attempts to run up back up the hill but finds it steep.
DOROMIR
“Deletos! Stop that man!”
DELETOS
“With pleasure, sir!”
Deletos manages to grab the Doctor before he tries to get up back up the hill. The Doctor struggles to break free from Deletos’ grasp.
DELETOS
“Right! Hold still!”
DOCTOR
(cries; protests) “Get off me! I have to get back up there before…”
DOROMIR
(sternly) “You’re not getting out of our sight, Doctor! You’re coming with us!”
DOCTOR
(protests) “But my friends are up there, Captain Doromir! They need my help! They could still be alive!”
DOROMIR
“You are a liability we can’t afford to lose, Doctor! You happen to have a reputation that is very disagreeable!”
DOCTOR
(protests) “Captain, my friends…”
DOROMIR
(interrupts; cruelly) “Your friends are better off dead under that rubble of stonework! It makes no difference to me what happens to them!”
DOCTOR
(angrily) “Obviously you don’t realise who you’re dealing with, Captain!”
DOROMIR
(bitterly) “On the contrary, Doctor! We were warned about your anticipated arrival to this planet!”
DOCTOR
(surprised) “Warned? Anticipated?”
DYNDA
(interrupts) “Look! Are you two going to keep bickering or are we going to have a sing-song? I feel sick when men can’t make up their minds!”
DELETOS
“Captain, sir! We should find out what has happened to Lo-Jo and the others! We need to rescue Master Drodo, sir!”
DOROMIR
“Lo-Jo and his men will obviously try to get on with the quest using that map to reach the dark tower! Since they tried to kill us for it a moment ago!”
DYNDA
“Ah! But they didn’t blow us up, did they?!”
DOCTOR
(agitated) “Yes! What were those charges? Why did you have to blow them up for my friends to be buried?!”
DOROMIR
“I knew nothing of those charges, Doctor! Mr. Sil and his men obviously planted them in order to trap us!”
DOCTOR
“And why would that be?”
DOROMIR
(to Deletos) “Mr. Deletos! We must move on from this place! We shall carry on with the quest ourselves in our own way!”
DELETOS
“But what about Jason, sir?”
DOROMIR
“Jason had his orders! I do not wish to abandon him any more than you do! But he is to remain with the pirates in order to avoid suspicion!”
DYNDA
“What about my problem?! Dr. Nett’s still out there!”
DOCTOR
“Perhaps I can help in some way!”
DOROMIR
“Your assistance is not required, Doctor! You are our prisoner!” (to Deletos) “Take him under your wing Mr. Deletos!”
DELETOS
“Yes, sir.”
Deletos then trains a laser pistol on the Doctor.
DOCTOR
(protests) “There’s no need for the firepower!”
DOROMIR
“Come! Onwards we go!”
DELETOS
(to Doctor) “Move, sir!”
DOCTOR
(protests) “But my friends!”
DELETOS
(insistently; threateningly) “Move! I won’t say it again!”
Reluctantly, the Doctor moves with Captain Doromir and Dynda, held at gunpoint by Deletos. They head off deeper into the rainforest jungle. Meanwhile, a certain dark lord hides nearby within the thicket, watching the Doctor go with Doromir, Deletos and Dynda.
SALVADOR
(chuckles; gleefully) “You have fallen into my trap, Doctor! You have fallen into my trap!”
SCENE #33 – EXT – WALDO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Back on top of the hill of Waldo with its collapsed walls, Lo-Jo with Orio the Parrot; Jason; Morg and Pike recover from their ordeal, clearing the rubble off themselves.
ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) Shiver me timbers! (squawks)
MORG
(scornfully) Shiver me timbers indeed. I wish you’d shut it, chirper!
LO-JO
Oy! Let me do the shutting of my own pet Orio, Morg!
Jason then walks back through the rubble until Pike grabs him.
JASON
(cries) Let me go! Get of my arm!
PIKE
(threateningly) “Trying to desert us are you, lad? Hmm? Hmm?!! Trying to cheat and peach us?! Hmm? Hmm?! Aren’t you?! Can’t have that!”
LO-JO
“Let the lad go, Pike! Can’t you see he’s distressed?!”
Pike reluctantly lets go of Jason, as Lo-Jo approaches them.
LO-JO
(to Jason) “Now Jason, lad! What’s all the panic about?”
JASON
(anxiously) “We have to remove some of these stones, Lo-Jo! Captain Doromir and the others might be underneath them!”
LO-JO
“Don’t get your hopes up, laddie! They’re dead and buried as you can see! There’s no chance they could have survived! Lest they’ve turned into ghosts!”
Lo-Jo lets out a hearty laugh and he’s joined by Morg and Pike who laugh too. Orio the Parrot squawks loudly, as the pirates laugh out loud.
JASON
(accusingly) “It was you, wasn’t it?! You planted the explosives when the walls collapsed on Doromir and the others!”
LO-JO
“They were meant for the savages, lad! We had no intention of killing Doromir and his men!” (to Morg; Pike) “Did we, lads?”
MORG
(agreeably) “No! Absolutely not!”
PIKE
(agreeably) “No question about it!”
LO-JO
“You see lad! We only set the bombs off to block the savages! You saw them coming for us! We didn’t mean to kill Doromir and crew! They got caught in the blast!”
JASON
“Do you mean that, Lo-Jo?”
LO-JO
“I place my hand on my heart in complete severance to you!”
Jason becomes silent, as he gradually accepts Lo-Jo’s explanation.
JASON
“Well…we can’t just leave them! We must provide a proper burial for them!”
LO-JO
“I don’t see why we should, lad! They’re properly buried under all that!”
JASON
“But Lo-Jo…!”
LO-JO
“Now, now, Jason lad! Don’t fret over legalities! You must understand! We’re the only family left you’ve got!” (Pause) “Come with us, Jason! Remember what we came for? To get a share of the treasure! Shipmates! Remember?!”
Moment of silence.
PIKE
“Yeah but…how are we going to get to the tower?! We haven’t got a map!”
LO-JO
(cunningly) “Ah but we have! Right here!”
Lo-Jo takes the map out from his coat pocket and shows it to Morg, Pike and Jason.
MORG
(thrilled) “Oh brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!”
LO-JO
“We can go on with our quest!” (to Jason) “Can’t we, Jason?!”
JASON
(solemnly) “Yes. Yes, I suppose we can.”
LO-JO
“But hey! We’ll need your compass though! Be so good as to let us have it, Jason lad!”
JASON
“No! Not my compass, Lo-Jo! It was my father’s!”
LO-JO
(reassuringly) “And we’ll look after it clean and proper, lad! Come on, Jason lad! Lend us your compass! For the quest, lad!”
ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “The quest, lad! The quest!” (squawks)
Jason is reluctant to give up his compass, as he becomes indecisive.
JASON
“I…I…” (Pause; solemnly) “Oh, very well.”
Jason fetches his compass out from his coat pocket. He gradually hands it over to Lo-Jo.
LO-JO
“That’s more like it!”
Lo-Jo takes the compass from Jason. Lo-Jo, Morg and Pike then cheer.
LO-JO
(to Jason) Come on, lad! Let’s make for the quest! (Pause) You shall use the map, while I use your compass to navigate!
Lo-Jo, Jason, Morg and Pike move on, as they head off for the quest. They leave the ruined walls of Waldo behind them.
