Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

You can check out my ‘convention memories’ blog posts and my convention reports by clicking on the images below. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Orphan 55’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

After the epic adventure in the two-part season opener that is ‘Spyfall’, it’s time for us to check out the second story in Series 12 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, we’re checking out ‘Orphan 55’ by Ed Hime, who previously contributed ‘It Takes You Away’ in Series 11. In the episode, Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz are transported from the TARDIS to a tranquillity spa after winning a free holiday. However, the holiday resort turns out to be a barren ‘orphan’ planet overrun with mutated beings called Dregs. The episode’s guest cast includes Lauren Fraser as Kane; Gia Ré as Bella; James Buckley (of ‘The Inbetweeners’ fame) as Nevi; Lewin Lloyd as Sylas, Nevi’s son; Julia Foster as Vilma; Col Farrell as Benni, Vilma’s partner; Amy Booth-Steel as Hyph3n and Will Austen as Vorm. Do I think ‘Orphan 55’ top ups well in terms of Ed Hime’s efforts as a ‘Doctor Who’ writer? Is the episode better than ‘It Takes You Away’? Is it considered worthy enough to check out in Series 12 of the new TV series? ‘Orphan 55’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Cold War’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The ‘Doctor Who’ episode that we’re checking out today is the one that features the return of the Ice Warriors (well, one of them anyway 😀 ) in the new TV series. This is ‘Cold War’ by Mark Gatiss. 🙂 ‘Cold War’ has Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara visiting a Soviet submarine in 1983 during the Cold War. It’s where the Ice Warrior called Grand Marshal Skaldak (played by Spencer Wilding and voiced by Nicholas Briggs) breaks loose and plots revenge against humanity. There are special guest stars in the episode like Liam Cunningham (who I’ve seen in the 2007 TV adaptation of ‘Northanger Abbey’) as Captain Zhukov. There’s the late David Warner (who I’ve met at conventions, seen in two ‘Star Trek’ films and heard in the Big Finish audios) as Professor Grisenko. There’s Josh O’Connor (who’s been in ‘The Durrells’ and the 2020 film ‘Emma.’) as Piotr, there’s Tobias Menzies (who’s been in the 2007 TV adaptation of ‘Persuasion’) as Lieutenant Stepashin, and there’s James Norton (well-known for playing Sidney Chambers in ‘Grantchester’) as Onegin. ‘Cold War’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special with Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, which was released on Christmas Day in December 2011. This is ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe’ by Steven Moffat, loosely inspired by ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis. As well as Matt Smith, there’s Claire Skinner as Madge Arwell. There are the Arwell children, including Maurice Cole as Cyril and Holly Earl as Lily. There’s Alexander Armstrong (well-known for voicing Mr. Smith in ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’) as Reg Arwell, Madge’s husband. There are comedic guest stars like Bill Bailey, Paul Bazely and Arabella Weir (who played an alternative version of the Doctor in the Big Finish audio ‘Exile’) in the Christmas Special. And there’s a Wooden King (played by Spencer Wilding) and a Wooden Queen (played by Paul Kasey). Does this Christmas Special satisfy me in being a good homage to ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’? ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The God Complex’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re checking out another ‘Doctor Who’ episode in Series 6 of the new TV series today, and it happens to be ‘The God Complex’ by Toby Whithouse. In this episode, Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams find themselves trapped in what appears to be a 1980s hotel with constantly changing corridors (Not like ‘The Space Hotel’ then 😀 ). There’s also a Minotaur-like creature (played by Spencer Wilding) walking about the corridors of the hotel, as it feeds off the faith of the Doctors, his companions and other guests in the hotel. And yes, the Minotaur happens to be distantly-related to the Nimon from ‘The Horns of Nimon’. 😀 This ‘Doctor Who’ episode also features David Walliams (well-known for being in ‘Little Britain’) as Gibbis. There’s also Caitlin Blackwood, who briefly appears as Amy Pond in the episode. ‘The God Complex’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

Quick Movie Review – ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Earlier this year, I saw and shared a quick review on the 2000 film ‘Dungeons & Dragons’. I’ve now seen the latest film ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ at the cinema. This is clearly a superior film compared to the original 2000 film, and has been highly rated by critics and audiences. Continue reading

It’s the second day of the ‘Star Wars’ week on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ in May 2022, and I’m sharing my reviews on the ‘Star Wars’ spin-offs I’ve checked out so far. These spin-offs take place between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope’. They depict what occurred leading up to the introduction of Luke Skywalker and team fighting against Darth Vader, the Emperor and the Galactic Empire. Continue reading

March of the Thirteenth Doctor #18

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the second story in Series 12 of ‘Doctor Who’! This time, it’s a one-part adventure called ‘Orphan 55’ and it’s by Ed Hime who wrote ‘It Takes You Away’ for Series 11. The story features Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh’s Graham, Tosin Cole’s Ryan and Mandip Gill’s Yaz. Will ‘Orphan 55’ impress me as ‘It Takes You Away’ did? Continue reading
