It’s taken me a while, but I’m at last checking out and sharing my updated reviews on Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This is the 25th anniversary season of ‘Doctor Who’, which was shown from October 1988 to January 1989. The Blu-ray box set came out in October 2024, but I had to check out Seasons 15 and 20 on Blu-ray first before getting onto sharing my updated thoughts on the four stories in Season 25. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out the second story of Season 15 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Invisible Enemy’ by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. Yes! This is where K-9 makes his debut as a ‘Doctor Who’ companion in the classic TV series. Or rather where K-9 Mark I makes his debut. It’s been great to revisit ‘The Invisible Enemy’ on Blu-ray, especially through the CGI effects option. The story is directed by Derrick Goodwin, who makes his only contribution to the classic TV series. Continue reading →

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the 25th anniversary season of ‘Doctor Who’ – Season 25 – starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. We begin with my absolute favourite story from the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era called ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, a four-part adventure by Ben Aaronovitch. This story has the Seventh Doctor and Ace travelling back in time to the year 1963 where they visit Coal Hill School in Shoreditch, London. We’re also introduced to the Counter-Measures team, including Simon Williams as Group Captain Gilmore, Pamela Salem as Rachel and Karen Gledhill as Allison. ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Today, we begin the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and we come to my favourite season from the classic TV series – Season 19. To start off, let’s take a look at ‘Castrovalva’, a four-part story by Christopher H. Bidmead. In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor is recovering from his recent regeneration, but he has Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan to help him out. Meanwhile, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric has been captured by Anthony Ainley as the evil Master. ‘Castrovalva’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray or Britbox. Continue reading →

This is ‘The Invisible Enemy’, a four-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin. The story introduces us to K-9, a robot dog built by Frederick Jaeger as Professor Marius. K-9 is voiced by John Leeson. This is ‘The Mind of Evil’, a six-part story starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. It’s time for the first proper ‘Doctor Who’ adventure to feature Jackie Lane as Dodo Chaplet as a travelling companion in the TARDIS with William Hartnell as the First Doctor and Peter Purves as Steven. In this four-part story, the TARDIS ends up inside a ship that’s on its way to a planet called Refusis II. The Doctor, Steven and Dodo also meet the alien Monoids, who have single eyes in their mouths. Ugh!!! You can watch ‘The Ark’ either on DVD or via Britbox. Continue reading →
