Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #7

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

You may have noticed the inactivity that’s occurring on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ so far in January 2024. Rest assured, I haven’t been idle. I’m currently putting together my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter in March and April and I’m working on ‘The Sunfire Chronicles’ set of short stories. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Day of the Doctor’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The time has come for ‘The Day of the Doctor’ by Steven Moffat – the 50th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’. This was shown on BBC TV on the 23rd of November 2013. It stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Billie Piper as the Moment and John Hurt as the War Doctor. There are special guest stars like Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood and Joanna Page as Queen Elizabeth I. The story also features the Daleks as well as the return of the Zygons, who previously appeared in their first TV story ‘Terror of the Zygons’. There are surprise guest cameos of Doctors and companions that a keen ‘Doctor Who’ fan would need to look out for. 😀 This is a ‘Doctor Who’ anniversary special that’s highly rated by the fans. Do I agree with that? Do I think that this is a better anniversary special than ‘The Five Doctors’, the 20th anniversary special? Does it cover everything that I want to celebrate about 50 years of my favourite TV show? Are there things that I like about ‘The Day of the Doctor’? 😀 ‘The Day of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dimensions In Time’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Does this count as a proper ‘Doctor Who’ story? 😐 I don’t know, but I’m going to include it in my 60th Anniversary Marathon anyway. It’s time for ‘Dimensions In Time’, the 30th anniversary story that was released on Children In Need night back in November 1993. It’s a two-part adventure by John Nathan-Turner and David Roden, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Deborah Watling as Victoria, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Caroline John as Liz, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, Louise Jameson as Leela, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, Lalla Ward as Romana, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. I’ve updated my review slightly with new photos, thanks to the latest video on ‘Dimensions In Time’ by Critical Penguin, which you can check out on YouTube. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 20 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Whilst Season 19 is my favourite season out of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era, Season 20 is arguably my second favourite season. I acknowledge that Season 20 had its problems, particularly in the production values affected by industrial action, but I enjoyed this season more than Season 21. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Five Doctors’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. There’s also the original 90-minute TV version of the story, which can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

To close off our look into the Tom Baker/Fourth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ in the 60th Anniversary Marathon, it’s time for us to check out the third and final story of ‘The Quaddrigger Stoyn Trilogy’ by Big Finish called ‘Luna Romana’. Like ‘The Beginning’ and ‘The Dying Light’ before it, ‘Luna Romana’ was released to celebrate ‘Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, albeit released in January 2014. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 18 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 18 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is a significant season. It was the first one of the 1980s, the first one under producer John Nathan-Turner’s reign, and it was seventh and final season of Tom Baker’s era as the Fourth Doctor. This is also a season with its own behind-the-scenes issues. Continue reading
