I’m so happy I’ve been able to check out and do my review on the Big Finish audio adaptation of ‘Goth Opera’ for the 2024-25 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season. It’s Good Friday today, and we’re continuing the 2024 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season by checking out the first ‘Short Trips’ anthology book of ‘Doctor Who’ published by the BBC, which was released in March 1998. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the two-part season finale of Series 12 in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz. This is ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’/’The Timeless Children’ by Chris Chibnall, where not only do we have another appearance of Patrick O’Kane as Ashad, the Lone Cyberman, from ‘The Haunting of Villa Diodati’, but we also have the debut of the Cyber Warriors – a new breed of Cybermen in ‘Doctor Who’. This story also features the return of Sacha Dhawan as the Master, who finally reveals the truth about the Timeless Child to Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor and how the Time Lords of Gallifrey lied to her all those years ago. Once again, the Timeless Child reveal has divided a lot of ‘Doctor Who’ fandom since it was introduced in 2020. Some are okay with it, others really loathe it. Where do I stand on this? Am I okay with the Timeless Child reveal? Does it affect my enjoyment of the Thirteenth Doctor era and the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – both classic and new – in general? ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’/’The Timeless Children’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the first story of Series 12 in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz. This is a two-part story called ‘Spyfall’ by Chris Chibnall. ‘Part One’ of ‘Spyfall’ was shown on New Year’s Day in January 2020 and ‘Part Two’ was shown on the 5th of January. Our TARDIS heroes investigate a series of attacks on several secret agents on planet Earth. They involve a former agent and an alien threat. The story’s guest cast includes Sacha Dhawan (who played Waris Hussien in ‘An Adventure In Space and Time’ and has been in several Big Finish audios) as O, who turns out to be the evil Master. 😮 There’s Lenny Henry (who previously played the Doctor in a sketch on ‘The Lenny Henry Show’ and has regenerated into David Tennant for Comic Relief this year 😀 ) as Daniel Barton. And there’s Stephen Fry (who I’ve seen in ‘Jeeves & Wooster’ and ‘The Hobbit’ film trilogy) as C. There’s Yaz’s family, including Shobna Gulati as Najia, Yaz’s mum; Ravin J. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the season finale of Series 9 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is also the third and final episode of the three-episode story arc that depicts the end of Series 9. It’s time for us to check out ‘Hell Bent’ by Steven Moffat, starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. There’s the resolution of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald and her death in Series 9 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. There’s also the return of the Time Lords and Gallifrey. This means the episode has special guest stars like Donald Sumpter as Rassilon, the Time Lord President – previously played by Timothy Dalton in ‘The End of Time’. There’s also Ken Bones as the General, who made his debut in ‘The Day of the Doctor’ and he soon regenerates into T’nia Miller in the episode. There’s the return of Clare Higgins as Ohila, who previously appeared in ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’, and there’s the final appearance (for now) of Maise Williams as Ashildr. The story arc featured throughout Series 9 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series has been about the mysterious Hybrid. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The time has come for ‘The Day of the Doctor’ by Steven Moffat – the 50th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’. This was shown on BBC TV on the 23rd of November 2013. It stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Billie Piper as the Moment and John Hurt as the War Doctor. There are special guest stars like Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood and Joanna Page as Queen Elizabeth I. The story also features the Daleks as well as the return of the Zygons, who previously appeared in their first TV story ‘Terror of the Zygons’. There are surprise guest cameos of Doctors and companions that a keen ‘Doctor Who’ fan would need to look out for. 😀 This is a ‘Doctor Who’ anniversary special that’s highly rated by the fans. Do I agree with that? Do I think that this is a better anniversary special than ‘The Five Doctors’, the 20th anniversary special? Does it cover everything that I want to celebrate about 50 years of my favourite TV show? And here we are on the final ‘Doctor Who’ TV adventure starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. This is a two-part story called ‘The End of Time’ by Russell T. Davies, with ‘Part One’ originally shown on Christmas Day in 2009 and ‘Part Two’ originally shown on New Year’s Day in 2010. In this two-parter, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor reunites with Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott, as they team up to tackle the return of John Simm as the evil Master. This special adventure also features special guest star Timothy Dalton as Rassilon, the Lord President of the Time Lords of Gallifrey. There’s also Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble. There are special guest stars like June Whitfield as Minnie Hooper, David Harewood as Joshua Naismith, Tracy Ifeacher as Abigail Naismith, Sinéad Keenan as Addams and Lawry Lewin as Rossiter. There are also special guest cameos of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, Camille Coduri as Jackie Tyler, John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Jessica Hynes as Verity Newman, Thomas Knight as Luke Smith and Russell Tovey as Midshipman Alonso Frame in the story. ‘The End of Time’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer.
