Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #7

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Quick DVD Review – ‘The War Games in Colour’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For my birthday, I received ‘The War Games in Colour’ on DVD, which I’m very pleased to have. I have shared my thoughts on the colourisation of ‘The War Games’ back in December 2024 when it came out on BBC Four. So, I don’t need to share them again here. Continue reading

Quick TV Review – ‘The War Games in Colour’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Okay, so, last year, when we had the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th anniversary celebrations, we were treated to a colourised version of ‘The Daleks’ in November 2023. Essentially, it was a colourised version of the black-and-white story compressed into 1 hour and 15 minutes. Continue reading

Blu-ray Review – ‘The Underwater Menace’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, I’m sharing my updated review on the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Underwater Menace’. This updated review is based on the latest in a line of mostly missing black-and-white ‘Doctor Who’ TV stories from the 1960s that have been animated on DVD and Blu-ray for today. The story stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Anneke Wills as Polly Wright, Michael Craze as Ben Jackson and Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon. This story also features Joseph Fürst as the titular ‘underwater menace’ – Professor Zaroff. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

You may have noticed the inactivity that’s occurring on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ so far in January 2024. Rest assured, I haven’t been idle. I’m currently putting together my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter in March and April and I’m working on ‘The Sunfire Chronicles’ set of short stories. Continue reading

Quick TV Review – ‘Doctor Who: 60 Years of Secrets and Scandals’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

On Saturday the 25th of November, I saw the Channel 5 documentary ‘Doctor Who: 60 Years of Secrets and Scandals’ at 8:30pm. I found this a fascinating documentary put together by Channel 5, as it explores what went on in the TV show’s making – both classic and new – and the issues it had. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 22 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Colin Baker’s first season as the Sixth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ is arguably a season that became scrutinised by the BBC executives. Criticisms laid against Season 22 were on the levels of violence in some stories and the show’s cheap-looking nature. It almost put the ‘Doctor Who’ show in jeopardy. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Two Doctors’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Colin Baker/Sixth Doctor era. It’s time for us to enjoy a multi-Doctor story that’s not an anniversary special. Today, we’re looking at ‘The Two Doctors’, a three-part 45-minute episode story by Robert Holmes. This story stars Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. It also features the return of Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie. There are also the potato-headed Sontarans and the story introduces a new race of aliens called the Androgums, including ‘Blake’s 7’s Jacqueline Pearce as Chessene and John Stratton as Shockeye. There’s a sunny atmosphere about this story, as some of it takes place in Seville in Spain. ‘The Two Doctors’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading
