‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Two Doctors’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Colin Baker/Sixth Doctor era. It’s time for us to enjoy a multi-Doctor story that’s not an anniversary special. Today, we’re looking at ‘The Two Doctors’, a three-part 45-minute episode story by Robert Holmes. This story stars Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. It also features the return of Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie. There are also the potato-headed Sontarans and the story introduces a new race of aliens called the Androgums, including ‘Blake’s 7’s Jacqueline Pearce as Chessene and John Stratton as Shockeye. There’s a sunny atmosphere about this story, as some of it takes place in Seville in Spain. ‘The Two Doctors’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Mark of the Rani’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The third story of Season 22 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is a two-part 45-minute episode adventure called ‘The Mark of the Rani’ by Pip and Jane Baker. This story has Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri visiting the mining town of Killingworth in the 19th century. There, a group of rampaging miners are on the run with attacking people and destroying machinery. This happens to be the work of Kate O’Mara who makes her debut as the evil Rani. She’s joined by Anthony Ainley who returns as the equally evil Master. Can the Sixth Doctor and Peri stop the plans of the Rani and the Master in time? ‘The Mark of the Rani’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Vengeance on Varos’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In today’s instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, we’re looking at probably one of the most divisive stories ever featured in the classic TV series. It’s time for ‘Vengeance on Varos’, another two-part story, with the episodes being 45 minutes each, by Philip Martin, starring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. This story also introduces us to Nabil Shaban as the slimy and villainous Sil. There’s also special guest star Martin Jarvis as the Governor on the planet Varos, and there are guest stars like Stephen Yardley, Sheila Reid and Owen Teale. ‘Vengeance on Varos’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Attack of the Cybermen’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to begin the first full season of Colin Baker’s era of ‘Doctor Who’. This is Season 22, a ‘Doctor Who’ season featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. The first story of the season is called ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ by ‘Paula Moore’, featuring…you guessed it…the Cybermen. 😀 This also happens to be the first two-part story in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ series where the episodes are 45 minutes each. Maurice Colbourne also returns to play Lytton from ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ and Davros actor Terry Molloy makes an appearance as Russell. ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 21 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 21 is quite an unusual ‘Doctor Who’ season in the classic TV series. It’s Peter Davison’s third season as the Fifth Doctor, but it ends with Colin Baker introduced as the Sixth Doctor in ‘The Twin Dilemma’. Usually, the new Doctor’s introduction is saved for the next season, not at the end of one. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Twin Dilemma’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are at the end of Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s also the beginning of a new era in ‘Doctor Who’, as we’re introduced to Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. He’s joined by Nicola Bryant as Peri in this four-part adventure by Anthony Steven called ‘The Twin Dilemma’. This story also features special guest stars like Maurice Denham, Kevin McNally and Edwin Richfield. Over the years, ‘The Twin Dilemma’ is regarded as the worst ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made. Do I agree with that viewpoint? ‘The Twin Dilemma’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

CD Review – ‘And You Will Obey Me’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We have come to the end of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ in the 60th Anniversary Marathon. But there are more Fifth Doctor stories to check out, including the Big Finish audios. It’s time to close off our look into the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor by checking out the first story of a multi-Doctor trilogy of ‘Doctor Who’ audios by Big Finish called ‘The Two Masters Trilogy’. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Reflection on the Fifth Doctor

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Even though I was introduced to Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor in the TV series, the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ is the one that won me over as my absolute favourite. This is evident in the TV stories and the Big Finish audios I’ve enjoyed. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Caves of Androzani’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 21 isn’t over yet, but it’s time for the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ to come to an end. It’s time for ‘The Caves of Androzani’, a four-part story by Robert Holmes. This is rated as possibly the best ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made in the entire TV series. Is this something I agree with? In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri visit the planet Androzani Minor, where they step into some raw spectrox and start to die from it. Can the Fifth Doctor save Peri in time from the poisonous effects of the deadly spectrox? There are some special guest cameos of Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and Anthony Ainley as the Master in the story. ‘The Caves of Androzani’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox.
