Reflection on ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ and its Future

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Last weekend, I saw ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ for the fourth and final time (for now 😀 ) at the Adelphi Theatre in London. I saw the musical production on Saturday 11th of April, one day before its West End run in London finished on Sunday 12th of April 2026.

I’m pleased I’ve seen ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ four times so far! I first saw the production back in August 2025 and then for a second time in September that year where I reviewed the music CD. Who knew I would see the musical production beyond 2025. 🙂

The third time I saw it was back in February 2026 whilst attending ‘London Comic Con Spring’. It’s clear ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ has made a big impact on me and I’ve enjoyed it just as much as I’ve enjoyed the original ‘Back to the Future’ movie trilogy.

I feel lucky in being able to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ for a fourth time at the Adelphi Theatre before its London run finished. It’s sad the London run for the production has ended, as I’ve greatly enjoyed going to see it at the Adelphi Theatre from 2025 to 2026.

The cast included Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Cory English as Doc Brown, Maddie Grace Jepson as Lorriane Baines, Orlando Gibbs as George McFly and Alex Runicles as Biff Tannen. As ever, the commitment and enthusiasm from the show’s cast is so evident.

Whilst ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ has finished its London run, there will soon be a UK tour for the production from 2026 to 2027, with its first run in Bristol from October to November 2026. It’ll soon be coming to Cardiff from October to November 2027. WOW!!!

It would be very nice to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ again at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff when the time comes in 2027. If you’d like to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ close to where you live, then I highly recommend checking out the link.

As I reflect on the times I’ve seen ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ in London and the upcoming UK tour of the musical production, there’s something I’d like to share that’s had me pondering for a bit. Will there be musical productions of ‘Parts II and III’ of the trilogy?

I suppose the quick answer is “No”, considering the complexity of the two films compared to the first one. This is especially when you have to consider duplicate versions of Marty and Doc Brown since there are alternative versions of their characters in the two films.

But for the sake of argument, let’s say ‘Part II’ of ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ did happen. How would it be possible to duplicate Marty and Doc’s characters? Well, you can have more than one actor playing Marty and Doc in the scenes where duplication is so necessary. 🙂

Back in December 2025, there was a special performance of ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ where the first three actors who played Marty – Olly Dobson, Ben Joyce and Caden Brauch – all performed in one show. I didn’t get to see that show, which is a shame.

The point I’m trying to make is, if you have these three actors playing different versions of Marty in ‘Part II’ – say, in the 2015 segment where there’s the prime Marty, Marty Jr. and Marty Snr. – then I think you can get over the duplication problem of the story quite easily.

Yeah, there’s also the musical numbers to consider as well as possible elements of ‘Part II’s story being omitted from the film to the stage production, but I think it could work. Even with the recreation of the 1955 scenes from ‘Part I’ into ‘Part II’ could be a possibility.

I’m not saying that this will happen, as ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ is doing rather well on its own with it being based on the first film as well as being toured in the UK and the USA as well as in Hamburg, Paris, Toyko and the Royal Caribbean, which is pretty astounding.

But the possibility of doing the ‘Back to the Future’ sequels as musicals is there, whether the production team want to take that on board or not. They don’t have to, but I think it’d be fun to witness how the ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ story would continue in the sequels.

At this point in time, I’m glad to have seen ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ a fourth time at the Adelphi Theatre recently. A shame it’s finished its latest London run, but you never know. 🙂 There may be a day where ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ will return to London.

I’m hoping I’ll get to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ when it comes to Cardiff in 2027. I’ve already persuaded my best mate Stephen from school on seeing the production again at the Wales Millennium Centre in 2027. 🙂 Here’s hoping that it will happen!

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
