It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. And here we are on the twelfth and final instalment of the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection of ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories called ‘Old Flames’ by Paul Magrs. The story features the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane. It also features the ‘Doctor Who’ debut of Iris Wildthyme, a character who made her debut in three ‘Phoenix Court’ novels published by Vintage Books in the 1990s. She’s currently played by Katy Manning in the Big Finish audios. ‘Old Flames’ is read by Nicholas Courtney, who played the Brigadier in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the Big Finish audios. As well as the twelfth story in the ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’ collection, it’s the sixth story in the ‘Short Trips’ audio anthology produced by the BBC. It’s also the second story in the ‘Short Trips’ 1998 book collection by the BBC, which I reviewed in my ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season for Easter from March to April 2024. Continue reading

It’s Easter Saturday today, and the 2024 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season continues as we check out the second ‘Short Trips’ anthology book of ‘Doctor Who’ published by the BBC called ‘More Short Trips’, released in March 1999. There are seventeen stories in the anthology. Once again, one of them features the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. 🙂 Continue reading
