Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re now on the sixth story of Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and, as it turns out, the season finale. Technically, anyway. Don’t worry. There’s still ‘The Five Doctors’ for us to check out next week. In the meantime, let’s check out this two-part story by Terence Dudley, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough. It’s Terence Dudley’s third ‘Doctor Who’ contribution as a writer and it’s the first and only one to be directed by Tony Virgo. The story also introduces Kamelion, a new robot companion for the Fifth Doctor, voiced by Gerald Flood, who also plays King John in this adventure. There’s also the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master in ‘The King’s Demons’. The story’s special guest stars include Frank Windsor, Isla Blair, Christopher Villiers and Michael J. Jackson. The story was filmed at Bodiam Castle, as it takes place in medieval England in the year 1215. Continue reading →

And thus, we’ve come to the fifth and final story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. Let’s finish our look into the season by checking out the six-part story ‘The Time Monster’ by Robert Sloman and producer Barry Letts. As well as Jon Pertwee, the story stars Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Roger Delgado as the Master, Richard Franklin as Captain Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. The story also features guest stars like Wanda Moore as Dr. Ruth Ingram, Ian Collier as Stuart Hyde, George Cormack as King Dalios, Ingrid Pitt as Queen Galleia, Donald Eccles as Krasis, Aidan Murphy as Hippias, Susan Penhaligon as Lakis and David ‘Darth Vader’ Prowse as the Minotaur. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

I’m saddened by the news that Richard Franklin passed away on Christmas Day in December 2023. Richard played Captain Mike Yates in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor in the early 1970s. I’ve greatly enjoyed Richard Franklin playing Mike in ‘Doctor Who’. 🙂 Continue reading →

It’s time for ‘Dimensions In Time’, the 30th anniversary story that was released on Children In Need night back in November 1993. It’s a two-part adventure by John Nathan-Turner and David Roden, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Deborah Watling as Victoria, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Caroline John as Liz, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, Louise Jameson as Leela, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, Lalla Ward as Romana, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. Whilst Season 19 is my favourite season out of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era, Season 20 is arguably my second favourite season. It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. There’s also the original 90-minute TV version of the story, which can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading →
