Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the first two-part story in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, and it’s the story that features the return of the Cybermen in the new TV series. This is ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ by Tom MacRae, and it’s a pretty compelling story where I got introduced to the Cybermen in 2006 and found them terrifying on my first watch. 😀 In the story, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose and Noel Clarke as Mickey end up in a parallel universe. There are parallel universe versions of Rose’s parents – Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. There’s also Roger Lloyd-Pack as John Lumic – the head of Cybus Industries and the creator of the new Cybermen on parallel Earth. 😮 ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. We come now to the sixth and final story of Season 22 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘Revelation of the Daleks’, a two-part 45-minute episode story by Eric Saward, starring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. As well as the Daleks and Terry Molloy as Davros, this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure also features an amazing guest cast of actors, including the likes of Eleanor Bron, Clive Swift, William Gaunt, John Ogwen, Alexei Sayle, Jenny Tomasin, Stephen Flynn, Bridget Lynch-Blosse, Hugh Walters, Trevor Cooper, Colin Spaull and Alec Linstead. ‘Revelation of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 21 isn’t over yet, but it’s time for the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ to come to an end. It’s time for ‘The Caves of Androzani’, a four-part story by Robert Holmes. This is rated as possibly the best ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made in the entire TV series. Is this something I agree with? In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri visit the planet Androzani Minor, where they step into some raw spectrox and start to die from it. Can the Fifth Doctor save Peri in time from the poisonous effects of the deadly spectrox? There are some special guest cameos of Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and Anthony Ainley as the Master in the story. ‘The Caves of Androzani’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’ve come to the end of ‘The E-Space Trilogy’, but not the end of Season 18 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘Warriors’ Gate’, a four-part adventure by Stephen Gallagher, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Lalla Ward as Romana, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, and Matthew Waterhouse as Adric. This is quite an unusual and mind-boggling story to check out in Season 18. Does it end ‘The E-Space Trilogy’ on a satisfying conclusion? This story also features the departure of Lalla Ward as Romana and K-9 Mark II. ‘Warriors’ Gate’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox.

As it’s Easter Monday today, we’re now on the season finale to Season 13 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Seeds of Doom’, a six-part adventure starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. We’ve come to the end of Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the end of the Jon Pertwee era. Season 11 concludes in the six-part adventure called ‘Planet of the Spiders’. As well as Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, this story also features Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. There are also giant spiders featured in this story. Is one of them Shelob from ‘The Lord of the Rings’? 😀 ‘Planet of the Spiders’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading →

We conclude the ‘Dalek War’ saga in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series today by looking at ‘Planet of the Daleks’, a six-part adventure starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. The story takes us to the planet Spiridon, where the Third Doctor and Jo team up with a group of Thals, as they try to stop an army of Daleks under a frozen mountain from being woken up. ‘Planet of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. For a while, we’ve had the Third Doctor being exiled to Earth by the Time Lords in ‘Doctor Who’. Here, in this fourth story of Season 8 of the classic TV series called ‘Colony In Space’, Jon Pertwee as the Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant go off on an adventure away from Earth, as they visit the planet Uxarieus where a human colony is being threatened by the Interplanetary Mining Corporation (IMC). Roger Delgado as the Master is involved too. A young Helen Worth (who would later play Gail Platt in ‘Coronation Street’) is also in this ‘Doctor Who’ story. 🙂 This six-part adventure can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Here’s the third story in Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s the beginning of a new era with Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. As Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben get to know the new Doctor, he himself has to deal with the menace of the Daleks on the planet Vulcan (No, not the one from ‘Star Trek’ 😀 ). This story is now completely animated on DVD and Blu-ray, since all the episodes of the six-part story are currently missing.
