‘Planet of Fire’, the penultimate story of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, features some departures as well as a few introductions. It’s a four-part story by Peter Grimwade in Season 21 of the classic TV series. As well as starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, the story features the ‘death’ of Anthony Ainley as the Master, the introduction of Nicola Bryant as Peri, the departure of Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough, the departure of Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and there’s the filming location of Lanzarote that doubles as Lanzarote and the planet Sarn. ‘Planet of Fire’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come to the end of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’ in Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, as we look at the third and final story called ‘Enlightenment’. This is a four-part adventure by Barbara Clegg, starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough. As well as Valentine Dyall as the Black Guardian, this story also features the return of Cyril Luckham as the White Guardian. There’s also the introduction of the Eternals, including Keith Barron as Captain Striker and Lynda Baron as Captain Wrack. ‘Enlightenment’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

Today, we check out the second story of Season 20 in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. In today’s story, an old foe returns in the form of the Mara, who previously appeared in ‘Kinda’ in Season 19. Janet Fielding becomes possessed by the Mara again, and Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Sarah Sutton as Nyssa have to find a way to save her as well as thwart the evil of the Mara about to be unleashed on the planet Manussa. Today, we begin the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and we come to my favourite season from the classic TV series – Season 19. To start off, let’s take a look at ‘Castrovalva’, a four-part story by Christopher H. Bidmead. In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor is recovering from his recent regeneration, but he has Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan to help him out. In Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, the first story away from Earth is ‘The Curse of Peladon’. Today, we take a look at the second story in Season 9 that’s away from Earth called ‘The Mutants’, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. Can the Doctor and Jo solve the mystery of the planet Solos and the Mutts? Sadly, no X-Men can help them in this six-part story? 😀 ‘The Mutants’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Here’s another classic six-part ‘Doctor Who’ TV adventure from the Patrick Troughton era! 🙂 It’s time for ‘The Seeds of Death’, starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe. In this adventure, the TARDIS trio confront the Ice Warriors, who attempt to invade the Earth using seed pods via the T-Mat system from Earth’s moon. ‘The Seeds of Death’ is currently available to check out on DVD and on Britbox. We’re now on the last of the pure historical ‘Doctor Who’ adventures from the 1960s. It’s time for ‘The Highlanders’, a four-part adventure where Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben find themselves in 18th century Scotland.
