‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Death to the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The Doctor attempts to take Sarah Jane for a trip in the TARDIS to the planet Florana. Instead, they end up on the planet Exxilon, where the Daleks also end up. It’s time for ‘Death to the Daleks’, the third story in Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Does this ‘Doctor Who’ story live up to my expectations compared to other Dalek adventures I’ve enjoyed? This four-part adventure can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Day of the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s begin Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with a Dalek story. 🙂 This is ‘Day of the Daleks’, a four-part story starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. I highly recommend checking out the Special Edition version of the story on the 2-disc DVD release, since that has impressive CGI effects and impressive Dalek voices by Nicholas Briggs. The Special Edition version of ‘Day of the Daleks’ is also available on Britbox, which is fantastic. 😀 The story will soon be re-released in the Season 9 Blu-ray box set, so watch out for that. 😀 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Evil of the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The final story of Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is called ‘The Evil of the Daleks’. It’s here that we’re introduced to a new companion in the TV series – Deborah Watling as Victoria Waterfield. In this seven-part story, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie are transported back in time from 1966 to 1866 where they must deal with the Daleks and their Emperor who want the human factor. This is another mostly missing TV adventure with ‘Episode 2’ intact whilst the rest of the story has been animated on DVD and Blu-ray. ‘Episode 2’ of ‘The Evil of the Daleks’ is also available to check out on Britbox. 🙂 Continue reading

‘The Doctor Who Cookbook’ Reviews

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s the 60th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, so why not? 😀 To commemorate the day that I first met Sarah Sutton at the ‘Fifth Element’ event back in February 2010, I’ve decided to review ‘The Doctor Who Cookbook’ by Gary Downie, which was originally published back in 1985. This has been a treat of a ‘Doctor Who’ book to review. 🙂 Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s the third story in Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s the beginning of a new era with Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. As Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben get to know the new Doctor, he himself has to deal with the menace of the Daleks on the planet Vulcan (No, not the one from ‘Star Trek’ 😀 ). This story is now completely animated on DVD and Blu-ray, since all the episodes of the six-part story are currently missing. You can watch ‘The Power of the Daleks’ either on DVD, on Blu-ray, or on Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is a big one! It’s time to check out the epic 12-part ‘Doctor Who’ story called ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’, starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor and Peter Purves as Steven. You can listen to ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’ soundtrack on audio CD or Audible, and you can watch the second, fifth and tenth surviving episodes of the story in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection. The story also introduces us to Nicholas Courtney (before he became the Brigadier) as Bret Vyon, and Kevin Stoney (before he became Tobias Vaughn in ‘The Invasion’) as the villainous Mavic Chen. Adrienne Hill also appears as Katarina, following her debut in ‘The Myth Makers’. It also features the introduction of Jean Marsh as Sara Kindgom. The seventh episode is a Christmas episode, would you believe? 😀 And the eighth to tenth episodes also feature the return of Peter Butterworth as the Meddling Monk. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Mission to the Unknown’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to take a look at the only ‘Doctor Who’ episode from the classic TV series to not feature William Hartnell as the First Doctor, even though he is credited in the cast list. This is ‘Mission to the Unknown’, which serves as a prelude to the 12-part epic story ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’. There are two versions of this story. There’s the original, which can be heard on its TV soundtrack on an audio CD or via Audible, and there’s a new version of the story produced by the students of the University of Central Lancashire, which can be viewed on the ‘Doctor Who’ YouTube channel.
