Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the fourth story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for us to check out ‘The Mutants’, a six-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. In this adventure, the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the planet Solo during the Earth Empire period of the 30th century. The Doctor has to deliver a spherical pod to someone that could provide the key to Solos’ future. The story features guest stars like Paul Whitsun-Jones as the villainous Marshal and Garrick Hagon as Ky, a Solonian who is against the Earth Empire’s (or ‘Overlords’ as the Solonians call them) presence on Solos. Season 2 of ‘Doctor Who’ with William Hartnell on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for one of my favourite stories out of Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as my favourite story from the William Hartnell/First Doctor era. Today, we’re taking a look at ‘The Romans’, a four-part historical adventure where our heroes – William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara and Maureen O’Brien as Vicki – get to visit Italy in 64 A.D. They start in a Roman villa in Assisium before ending up in Rome where the fifth Emperor – Derek Francis as Caesar Nero – reigns. This is a ‘Doctor Who’ historical adventure that is injected with a lot of comedy by the story’s writer Dennis Spooner, who’s also the script editor on Season 2. Continue reading

Season 2 of ‘Doctor Who’ with William Hartnell on Blu-ray #3

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re on the third story in Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series on Blu-ray. It’s time for ‘The Rescue’, a two-part story that introduces Maureen O’Brien as Vicki, a new ‘Doctor Who’ companion who joins William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara in the TARDIS. This story also features special guest star Ray Barrett as Bennett. Ray Barrett is well-known for voicing John Tracy and the Hood in ‘Thunderbirds’. There’s also the monster-like Koquillion, played by Sydney Wilson. 😀 Will the Doctor, Ian and Barbara help Vicki when she and Bennett are terrified of Koquillion after crash-landing on the planet Dido? Quick TV Review – ‘The Daleks in Colour’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Okay, let me be clear about something. I love the first ‘Daleks’ story with William Hartnell, William Russell, Jacqueline Hill and Carole Ann Ford in ‘Doctor Who’. It’s one of the best William Hartnell/First Doctor era stories in the classic TV series. One I’ll happily revisit on DVD and Britbox. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Creature From The Pit’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re now on the third story of Season 17 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Creature From The Pit’, a four-part story by David Fisher. As well as Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Lalla Ward as Romana, there’s K-9 (now voiced by David Brierley). This story also features guest stars like Myra Frances, Eileen Way and Geoffrey Bayldon. Is the titular creature as scary as it sounds or will it end up being ridiculous? 😀 ‘The Creature From The Pit’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Mutants’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, the first story away from Earth is ‘The Curse of Peladon’. Today, we take a look at the second story in Season 9 that’s away from Earth called ‘The Mutants’, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. Can the Doctor and Jo solve the mystery of the planet Solos and the Mutts? Sadly, no X-Men can help them in this six-part story? 😀 ‘The Mutants’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. The story will soon be re-released in the Season 9 Blu-ray box set, so watch out for that. 😀 Continue reading

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to close off Season 8 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series by taking a look at the five-part adventure ‘The Dæmons’. This happens to be a favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story among the fans. It stars Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, John Levene as Sergeant Benton and Roger Delgado as the Master. Is this one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories though? 😀 ‘The Dæmons’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s the third story in Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s the beginning of a new era with Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. As Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben get to know the new Doctor, he himself has to deal with the menace of the Daleks on the planet Vulcan (No, not the one from ‘Star Trek’ 😀 ). This story is now completely animated on DVD and Blu-ray, since all the episodes of the six-part story are currently missing. You can watch ‘The Power of the Daleks’ either on DVD, on Blu-ray, or on Britbox. Continue reading
