‘Doom of the Daleks’, Part Three, Chapter 11

Dalek_Emperor

11. Job For The Doctor

SCENE #117 – INT – BOCO’S SPACE-TRAVEL JEEP – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back on Yondamus IV, the space-travel jeep driven by Boco with Hilda and Billy zooms at an incredible speed over the borders of Qavin. Frequent beeps comes from Boco’s tracking device inside the space-travel jeep.

BOCO
We’re now passing the border from the plains of Qavin to Micros Pli. (to Hilda) How are the kids doing, Hilda?

HILDA
They’re sleeping. But couldn’t you slow down, Boco? They may fly out of this jeep onto the sand if you’re not careful.

BOCO
“Nonsense.”

BILLY
“Do you have any idea where we’re going?”

BOCO
“None at all. We just keep sailing through the plains until this detector of mine spots something that’s similar to the description of our pet Sandy.”

BILLY
“I see.”

Moment of silence.

HILDA
“How were you able to crash land on this planet in a shuttle my hubby found you in, Billy?”

BILLY
“I was escaping.”

BOCO
“Escaping, hey? Oh now aren’t you an adventure boy!”

BILLY
“No, not really. I don’t know what was going on in my mind when I escaped. I had to leave a friend of mine and save another.”

HILDA
Things that bad, hey?

BILLY
Yes. I was escaping from the Daleks.

BOCO
Daleks?

HILDA
Oh not those horrible things. Earth’s still fighting with them I expect.

BILLY
So the Doctor told me. That was the friend I left behind on a spaceship with Daleks taking control.

BOCO
Oh, the Daleks. They’re hard ones those are. I remember a time when…

HILDA
This… (pronounces incorrectly) Nessa…

BILLY
Nyssa.

HILDA
(corrects herself) “Nyssa, then. This Nyssa friend of yours must mean a lot to you.”

BILLY
“She does. I hardly know her really but she means a lot to me. It’s my fault she’s down here on this planet.”

BOCO
(encouragingly) “Well take heart, man. We’ll see to it that you get your friend back.”

BILLY
“That’s very kind of you.”

BOCO
“Even if you are a young man who leaves young ladies behind.”

HILDA
(appalled) “Boco?”

BOCO
“What?”

HILDA
“You shouldn’t jump to conclusions on how a young man attends to young ladies…”

BOCO
(interrupts; hushes) “Ssh!”

HILDA
“What is it…?”

BOCO
(hushes) Ssh! Shut up a minute.

Boco’s tracking device emits slow beeps, as it manages to detect something.

BOCO
You know what, Hilda? I think Sandy’s nearby. (Pause) I’m going to stop the jeep.

Boco slows his space-travel jeep down and applies the brakes to stop. As soon as the space-travel jeep stops, Boco checks the tracking device’s readings.

BOCO
I’ll have to get out of the jeep to get a better reading.

SCENE #118 – EXT – BORDERS OF QAVIN, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Boco gets out of the jeep and takes his tracking device with him. Boco shuts the jeep door behind him, as he walks forward on the borders of Qavin. Hilda and Billy get out of the jeep too, as they’re about to join Boco.

BOCO
“This way I think!” (calls back) “Don’t forget the water and sandwiches, Hilda darling?”

HILDA
“I won’t, Boco dear. I’m fetching them now.”

BOCO
“Good. And bring the babies with you. We don’t know how long we may be out here.”

As Boco walks on ahead, Hilda goes back to fetch the water; sandwiches and the babies. Billy goes to help Hilda out.

BILLY
“Let me help you, Hilda.”

HILDA
“Oh thank you, Billy.”

Hilda hands the food and water to Billy.

HILDA
“You carry the sandwiches and water, whilst I look after the little darlings.”

BILLY
(teasingly) “Okay. I’ll try and not eat all the sandwiches.”

HILDA
“I should hope not. They’re all we have.”

Hilda and Billy follow after Boco, who is way ahead of them.

BOCO
(calls back) “The device seems to be picking up the signals from those cliffs ahead. The Gamor cliffs, I think they are. I’m going to take a look.”

Boco walks on ahead to make for the cliffs. Hilda and Billy lag behind as they follow.

HILDA
“Sorry about Boco. He always wants to get into the spirit of things.”

BILLY
“That’s alright. He reminds me of the Doctor in some ways.”

HILDA
“The Doctor? That friend you were telling about. The one captured by the Daleks.”

BILLY
“Yes. I wonder what’s happened to him.”

SCENE #119 – INT – SLIU MINES – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile on Yondamus Prime, humans and Yondamons work as slaves in the harsh and terrible working conditions of Sliu Mines. The prisoners dig with shovels; collect rocks and put them into sacks whilst supervised by the Daleks. The digging and mining in the Sliu Mines goes downwards. A teleport takes place, as the crew of the Moonraker beam in with the Supreme Dalek. Once they’ve beamed in, Captain Sulley; Colin and Gavin take in their surroundings of the mines they’re in.

GAVIN
“Where are we?”

CAPTAIN
“I believe we’re in the mines of Sliu Nos on Yondamus Prime. We must be deep down the boroughs of the planet.”

COLIN
“I’ve only seen photographic representations of these mines.” (coughs) “And the conditions of this place don’t make it all that appealing.”

The Supreme Dalek turns to them.

SUPREME DALEK
“SILENCE! YOU WILL JOIN THE WORKFORCE AND REMAIN SILENT. YOU WILL DIG OUT THE ROCK IN THESE MINES.”

GAVIN
“Why? What is it we’re supposed to be doing?”

SUPREME DALEK
“YOU WILL REMAIN SILENT AND NOT QUESTION! YOU WILL WORK AND DIG IN THESE MINES! WORK AND DIG! WORK AND DIG! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK!”

Reluctantly, Captain Sulley; Colin and Gavin begin to work in the mines.

CAPTAIN
(to Colin; Gavin) “Come on, men.” (rather bitterly) “Let’s do this work for them”

They goes over to a section of rock with the Supreme Dalek joining them.

SUPREME DALEK
“PICK UP THE TOOLS AND START DIGGING! DIG FOR THE DALEKS! DIG! DIG!”

Captain Sulley; Colin and Gavin pick up the tools they’ve been ordered to pick up. They start digging in the rock, whilst the Supreme Dalek watches them. Captain Sulley; Colin and Gavin look to see the other prisoners with them.

GAVIN
“There are humans and Yondamons working in these mines. What’s happening here? What made that Yondamon Ambassador to get his people to work for the Daleks in these…mines?”

COLIN
“More to the point what’s happened to Commander Thomas? She’s with the Doctor. What could she possibly be doing whilst we’re working in these mines? She’s lucky to get out of work for the Daleks.”

CAPTAIN
“I’m sure Commander Thomas knows what she’s doing, Mr Wilson.”

COLIN
(unconvinced) “Yeah. With that Doctor. He’s the one that’s the cause of all of this.”

CAPTAIN
“That’s enough Mr. Wilson!”

COLIN
“But its true isn’t it, sir? He’s who the Daleks wanted. There’s something bad about this Doctor and no good will come of it.”

As they continue working in the mine, Captain Sulley ponders on what Colin has said about the Doctor. The Supreme Dalek continues to watch Captain Sully; Colin and Gavin with its eyestalk, saying nothing but being very unnerving.

SCENE #120 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile in the citadel of Sliu Nos, the chamber doors open. The Agent Dalek leads the Doctor; Elaine and Togal in. As they enter, the Doctor looks up to see the Emperor Dalek housed within the chamber. The chamber doors close shut once they’re in.

AGENT DALEK
“I HAVE BROUGHT THE DOC-TOR AND THE OTHER PRISONERS, YOUR MAJESTY!”

The Emperor Dalek’s eyestalk lowers to view the Doctor in its sight.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “DOC-TOR!”

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Hello there. Long time no see. Can’t say I’m pleased to see you, considering you’re alive.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “DOC-TOR. THE WHOLE UNIVERSE TREMBLES AND CRIES FOR HELP AT THIS NEW INFESTATION. IT WOULD BE UNWISE TO OPPOSE US AS WE REQUIRE YOUR HELP.”

DOCTOR
“Help? Ah yes! You mean the Dwaxi. Yes! A very unusual species, aren’t they? Having trouble fighting them, are you?”

Just then, Ambassador Togal steps forward.

TOGAL
(interrupts) “Excuse me, Emperor Dalek. I demand what has become of my people.”

The Agent Dalek points its sucker stick at Togal.

AGENT DALEK
(threateningly) “DO NOT INTERRUPT THE EMPEROR!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms; to Togal) “YOU WISH TO KNOW THE STATUS AND CONDITION OF YOUR PEOPLE THE YOND ELDERS, AMBASSADOR TOGAL?”

TOGAL
Yes! I insist!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) THEN YOU SHALL! (to Dalek Emperor Guard) INFORM DALEK CONTROL FOR THE YOND ELDERS TO BE BROUGHT HERE.

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
I OBEY!

The Dalek Emperor Guard glides to a control panel to communicate with another Dalek. Meanwhile, Elaine and the Doctor speak to Togal.

ELAINE
It’d be a good time to know what this bargain you and the Daleks have had all the time, Ambassador? Why they ordered you to bring the Doctor here.

TOGAL
They wanted something from my people. From the Elders. Something that my father kept secret. They said they’d let my people go if I brought you Doctor, then they’d let my people and father go.

DOCTOR
“And what is this secret that your father kept?”

TOGAL
“I couldn’t tell you even if I wanted to.”

ELAINE
Why not?

TOGAL
It’s a secret.

DOCTOR
This is serious, Ambassador Togal. Your people are in the throes of alien machines who think of nothing else but themselves. To fight, obey, destroy and exterminate!

TOGAL
I’m well aware of the Daleks’ capacity for non-stop killing. But they said that they’d set my people free.

DOCTOR
And you’d believe the word of Daleks?!

TOGAL
You just wait and see, Doctor. Just and wait see. If the Daleks are merciless.

Just then the chamber doors open. Footsteps echo, as a number of people enter escorted by a Dalek. The Yond Elders are brought into the chamber. They stop to look up at the Emperor Dalek.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “HERE ARE YOUR YOND ELDERS!”

TOGAL
(joyously) “Father!” (to Emperor Dalek) “So you’ve kept your end of the bargain!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “ALIVE AND WELL AS YOU INSTRUCTED.”

TOGAL
“And you got what you wanted from them.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “WE HAVE.”

TOGAL
(relieved) “Good.”

Moment of silence.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “EXTERMINATE THE YOND ELDERS!”

In the Emperor’s chamber, the Daleks fire their weapons at the Yond Elders. They cry out in pain and agony, as they get electrocuted by the Daleks’ death ray. The Yond Elders collapse to the floor, dead. Elaine gasps horrified and Togal is shocked.

ELAINE
(horrified) “They murdered them! They just…shot them and murdered them!”

DOCTOR
(mutters; angrily) “Daleks!”

TOGAL
(shocked) “Father! My father!” (angrily; at Emperor Dalek) “You killed my father! All of the Yond Elders!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “CORRECT!”

TOGAL
(angrily) “And you killed the Yond Elders. Why?”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “THEY HAVE FULFILLED THEIR USEFULNESS TO THE DALEKS. THEY ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED FOR OUR STRATAGEM. THEY HAVE GIVEN US THE INFORMATION WE WANTED ACCORDING TO OUR DEAL.”

TOGAL
(angrily) “But you promised you wouldn’t kill anybody. You said you’d spare them alive.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “THAT WAS…A LIE!” (Pause) “AND NOW…YOU SHALL JOIN YOUR ELDERS!”

Togal starts to back away.

TOGAL
(realises; pleads) “No! Please! Have mercy on me! Have mercy! Please! Please!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms; to Agent Dalek) “AGENT DALEK! YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!”

DOCTOR
(cries) “No! Stop!”

But the Agent Dalek glides toward Togal. Togal stumbles back and falls to the floor. Elaine runs forward to help, but the Doctor stops her.

ELAINE
(cries) “No!”

DOCTOR
“Get back, Elaine!”

ELAINE
“We’ve got to help him!”

DOCTOR
“You’ll get yourself killed too!” (to Emperor Dalek) “Emperor Dalek, there’s no need…”

TOGAL
(shrieks) “Please! Help me!”

It’s too late, as the Agent Dalek trains its gun on Togal.

AGENT DALEK
“EXECUTE!”

The Agents Dalek fires its gun on Togal. Togal cries out in agonising pain as the death ray electrocutes him. The Dalek stops firing, as Togal’s body crumbles to the floor. Moment of silence ensues.

DOCTOR
(to Emperor Dalek) “That was not necessary!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “HE HAS SERVED HIS PURPOSE. HIS OBSTRUCTION WILL NOT INTERRUPT US NOW!”

ELAINE
(cries; angrily) “You don’t have to kill to satisfy your ends! Why don’t you just stop?! Just stop?!”

AGENT DALEK
“YOU WILL BE SILENT! DO NOT INTERRUPT THE EMPEROR!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “DOC-TOR! WE HAVE MUCH TO TALK ABOUT NOW!”

Reluctantly, the Doctor listens to the Emperor Dalek.

SCENE #121 – INT – SLIU MINES – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back in the Sliu mines of Yondamus Prime, Captain Sulley; Colin and Gavin dig hard with their shovels into the rock along with the other slave workers. Colin then collapses to the ground, suffering from the strain of the work. Captain Sulley kneels to help Colin up.

CAPTAIN
“Mr. Wilson? Are you alright?”

COLIN
(exhausted) “I can’t keep on like this. I must rest.”

CAPTAIN
“No! You know what these Daleks are like. They’ll shoot you on the spot if they see you suffering.”

Just as Captain Sulley says this, the Supreme Dalek patrols by and spots the collapsed Colin on the floor.

SUPREME DALEK
“RETURN TO YOUR WORK!”

GAVIN
“He’s ill!”

SUPREME DALEK
“RETURN TO YOUR WORK!”

GAVIN
“We’ve been working for two hours. We need a rest.”

SUPREME DALEK
(angrily) “RETURN TO YOUR WORK! ALL PRISONERS NOT ABLE TO WORK WILL BE EXTERMINATED!”

CAPTAIN
(prods) “Come on, Colin! Get up before they kill you.”

COLIN
(exhausted) “Yes, sir.”

Slowly but surely, Wilson gets up from the ground as he is helped by Captain Sulley. Picking up his shovel, Colin returns to work. The Supreme Dalek then glides away.

COLIN
(groans; agitated) “We can’t keep working like this! We must have some action!”

CAPTAIN
“Brave words, Mr. Wilson. But it’s not good to think about with these Daleks watching us!”

COLIN
“Well we must do something, sir! We can’t work like sheep just for the sake of satisfying these Dalek cretins!”

CAPTAIN
“I’d be very happy to listen to any suggestions you may have Mr. Wilson on how to get us out of here!”

Moment of silence, as Colin is unable to think of something.

GAVIN
(to Captain) “There may be a way to escape, sir.”

CAPTAIN
“Really, Mr. Frakes? What may that be?”

Gavin fumbles for a necklace around his neck. He takes it off to show to the Captain and Colin.

GAVIN
“Luckily whilst the Daleks were searching for any weapons, they weren’t able to get this.”

COLIN
(unconvinced) “I don’t see how a pretty necklace is going to help us, Mr. Frakes.”

GAVIN
“It’s not just a necklace, sir. There’s a miniature explosive contained in the jewel that I inserted myself in case of anything serious.”

CAPTAIN
(intrigued) “Go on, Mr. Frakes.”

SCENE #122 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile, the Doctor continues his conversation with the Emperor Dalek. Elaine stands beside the Doctor, with the Agent Dalek watching them.

DOCTOR
So, you’ve been fighting against the Dwaxi for a considerably long time then.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) CORRECT. DALEK FORCES INTERCEPTED THE FIRST INCURSION OF DWAXI TROOPERS WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO INVADE OUR SPACE. CLAIMING THEIR SUPERIORITY, WE RETALIATED!

ELAINE
Hardly surprising.

DOCTOR
Quiet, Elaine.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) THEN THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR FORCES COMMENCED. THE DWAXI WITHOUT WARNING APPEARED IN TEMPORAL LOCATIONS WHERE OUR DALEK FORCES WERE MUSTERING. ONE BY ONE, THE DALEK FLEETS ASSIGNED TO STRATEGIC LOCATIONS WERE BLOTTED OUT OF EXISTENCE.

ELAINE
Didn’t you ever consider the possibility of finding out where the Dwaxi came from? And how they were capable of such power beyond your imagining.

DOCTOR
I think that’s exactly what they did consider, Elaine.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) CORRECT, DOC-TOR. I INSTRUCTED DALEK SCIENTISTS TO MONITOR THE TEMPORAL EXISTENCE OF THESE CREATURES. REPORTS RECEIVED INDICATED THE EXISTENCE OF A SPACE-TIME CRACK IN THIS SECTOR OF THE GALAXY.

DOCTOR
Yes, yes. Captain Sulley’s Mr. Wilson and Gavin found that out as well.

ELAINE
We were going to investigate that rift ourselves. Before your boys caught us first.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) WE TOOK AN ARMADA OF DALEK SHIPS INTO THE RIFT TO INFILTRATE AND DESTROY THE DWAXI EMPIRE WE ENCOUNTERED. THEY CONSIDERED OUR PRESENCE IN THEIR EMPIRE AS INFECTIOUS AND DESTROYED OUR ARMADA. ONLY ONE SHIP OUT OF THE ARMADA WAS ABLE TO SURVIVE! IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS ABOARD THAT SHIP.

ELAINE
(wryly) “Oh yes. Very fortunate.”

DOCTOR
And the reason why they’re here in this galaxy is because they’re intent now on destroying everything that is a Dalek because of your intervention.

Moment of silence.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) IT IS POSSIBLE! THE DALEKS HAVE RECEIVED FREQUENT ATTACKS FROM DWAXI EVER SINCE.

DOCTOR
Tell me. During your intervention in Dwaxi territory through time and space, did you learn much about where they came from and who they were?

The Dalek Agent interjects.

AGENT DALEK
THEIR TEMPORAL EXISTENCE INDICATES THAT THEY COME FROM AN ALTERNATIVE FUTURE

DOCTOR
An alternative future, hey? (to himself) Or a parallel universe. Or some alternate dimension [folding in the void…]

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “DOC-TOR. THESE QUERIES OF YOURS ARE IRRELEVANT. THE ISSUE THAT PRESSES THE DALEKS’ OBJECTIVE IS TO ELIMINATE THE DWAXI. THAT IS OF MOST CONCERN TO YOU NOW . THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOU BEING HERE. YOU ARE TO HELP US IN ANALYSING AN INGREDIENT IN THE DWAXI’S STRENGTH.”

DOCTOR
“Really. And what may that be?”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “YENTIAS.”

DOCTOR
“Yentias?”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “A DRUG USED BY THE DWAXI.”

ELAINE
“What?! You mean…the Dwaxi are addicted to drugs!”

DOCTOR
(realises) “Of course! That’s the reason for their strength and hostility. Something that makes them tick.” (to Emperor Dalek) “You’ve discovered the source of their strength, haven’t you? This drug which you call Yentias.”

AGENT DALEK
“DALEK SCIENTISTS HAVE ANALYSED THE SUBSTANCE. THE YENTIAS DRUG IS A CONCEN-TRATED FLUID USED TO HEIGHTEN THE SENSES AND REDUCE THE CHEMICAL IN THE BLOOD STREAM TO INDUCE SLEEP. THIS INCREASES THE DWAXI’S STRENGTH AND VIOLENT ACTIONS.”

DOCTOR
“Fascinating. And where do they keep this drug?”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “EACH DWAXI SOLDIER IS TREATED WITH THE SUBSTANCE THROUGH THE CERVICAL SECTION OF THEIR ANATOMY WHICH IS DIRECTED THROUGH THE BLOOD STREAM AND NERVOUS SYSTEMS.”

DOCTOR
“And what may I ask has this got to do with me?”

AGENT DALEK
“YOU WILL HELP US TO PRODUCE AN ANTIGEN FOR THE YENTIAS DRUG TO INFECT THE BLOOD STREAM OF THE DWAXI TROOPERS.”

ELAINE
“But that’s murder a hundred times over. You can’t ask the Doctor to do something like that. Why can’t you do it yourselves?”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “THERE HAVE BEEN EXPERIMENTS TO PRODUCE THE VIRUS AGAINST YENTIAS. BUT WE HAVE HAD UNSUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES. THE DALEKS ASSIGNED TO THIS TASK HAVE ALL BEEN EXTERMINATED FOR THEIR FAILINGS.”

AGENT DALEK
“WE NEED THE DOC-TOR’S SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE TO HELP US WITH THE EXTERMINATION OF THE DWAXI.”

ELAINE
“But, why? Why is it so important to you that the Dwaxi get destroyed?”

DOCTOR
“Because the universe will crumble if the Dwaxi’s presences remains here. They could have more Dwaxi troopers bleeding in through the shell of this universe from wherever they came from, wherever that is. And that’s just what worries me. Their presence here and now is worrying not to say disturbing. Because it’s just not right.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “THEN YOU WILL HELP US, DOC-TOR.”

Moment of silence.

DOCTOR
(thinks) “Yes. Alright then, I will help.”

ELAINE
“Doctor? Are you out of your mind…?”

DOCTOR
(quietly; to Elaine) “The more we learn about this Yentias drug and the Dwaxi, the less we have to worry about them. In any case, the Dwaxi could be ten times worse than the Daleks. And we can’t allow an enemy who doesn’t belong in this time continuum to upset the balance, can we?”

ELAINE
(quietly) “Sometimes Doctor, I completely have no idea what you’re saying. Shouldn’t we think about escaping these goons and getting Kevin and the others out of those mines?”

DOCTOR
(quietly) “No! We need to buy some time. I’m not certain yet as to what the Daleks are planning. Something tells me they’re not telling me everything.”

ELAINE
(quietly) “Very well, if you insist.”

The Agent Dalek then prods Elaine with its sucker stick.

ELAINE
(yelps) “Hey, watch it!”

AGENT DALEK
“YOU WILL BE TAKEN TO DALEK LAB FOUR TO BEGIN YOUR WORK, DOC-TOR. THE DALEKS ARE IN NEED FOR THE ANTIGEN VIRUS TO WORK.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “YOU WILL NOT FAIL US, DOC-TOR. IF YOU FAIL, YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED!”

DOCTOR
(cheerily) “Well I’ll always try my best now.”

AGENT DALEK
“YOU WILL MOVE NOW! MOVE! MOVE!”

The Doctor and Elaine are escorted by the Agent Dalek out of the Emperor Dalek’s chamber. The Emperor Dalek, high and mighty, considers its next objective.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “THE DOC-TOR WILL NOT FAIL US! HE WILL PROVIDE US WITH THE ANTIGEN! THE DWAXI SHALL BE EXTERMINATED!”

SCENE #123 – EXT – GAMOR ROCK CLIFFS, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back on Yondamus IV, at the Gamor rock cliffs, Boco continues his search of ‘Sandy’ with Hilda and Billy behind him. Boco uses his tracking device to find him, that emits slow faint bleeps. Boco gets agitated and mutters whilst he searches for ‘Sandy’.

HILDA
“Anything?”

Moment of silence.

BOCO
“Nothing.”

HILDA
(sighs) “It can’t be here then, Boco. Let’s go back to the hut.”

BOCO
“Don’t give up, woman.”

HILDA
“I’m not giving up! If we keep looking, we’ll be out here all night. And I can’t carry our babies in this cot forever.”

BILLY
(concerned) “Are they alright in there?”

HILDA
“Oh yeah. Safe as houses!” (to babies) “Aren’t you my little darlings?”

BILLY
(concerned) “It doesn’t seem the best thing for babies to be in. Usually people use a pram.”

HILDA
“A what?”

BOCO
(insistently) “We must find Sandy!”

HILDA
(annoyed) “Oh nut-hills to Sandy, Boco. Surely he’d want to leave us sometime. He’s not what you’d consider a reliable pet. They’re like cats.”

BOCO
“Nonsense. We keep on searching for a little longer, then we’ll have those sandwiches.” (Pause) “Tomato and mayonnaise are they?”

HILDA
“No. Radishes and eels!”

BOCO
(shudders) “Eew!”

BILLY
“I’ll take a look around the rear side of these walls, if that’s alright with you.”

BOCO
“Yes if you would, Billy! That would be super-duper!”

HILDA
“You can’t send a boy around there like that, Boco. Not on his own!”

BILLY
(reassuringly) “Oh it’s alright, Hilda. I’ll be fine!”

HILDA
“There you are you see, Hilda. He said he’d be alright. You go on, Billy man.”

BILLY
“Right. I won’t be long.”

Billy goes off to look around the rear side of the cliff walls. Boco keeps using his tracking device with Hilda beside him.

BOCO
“Couldn’t you get tomato and mayonnaise then, Hilda?”

HILDA
“No! You used up all of the tomato and mayonnaise! Remember what I said to you? ‘Use up all the goodies and you’ll end up with the trash’!”

BOCO
“So self-assured, aren’t you? Saying that I’m the one who eats up all the sandwiches.”

HILDA
“What do you mean?”

BOCO
“You ate up all of my favourite cookies when I asked for one yesterday.”

HILDA
“Hey?”

SCENE #124 – EXT – GAMOR ROCK CLIFFS, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile, Billy searches for Boco’s ‘Sandy’ a fair distance away from Boco and Hilda. He steps over some rocks and climbs through archways as he looks. Billy stops for a moment and stumbles as he tramples onto some…

BILLY
(slightly annoyed) “Bramble.”

Just then, Billy stops as he hears a noise from around the corner. There is a low fierce growl nearby. Billy slows his pace, as he steps forward to anticipate what it is that’s from behind the corner.

BILLY
(calls) “Hello? Is anyone there?”

The low fierce growl continues, not responding to Billy’s call.

BILLY
(calls) “Sandy? Sandy, is that you?”

Billy continues forward, before he eventually stops. The low fierce growl stops too. Puzzled, Billy turns around the corner to see whatever is there that made the low fierce growl. There is nothing there.

BILLY
(relieved) “Phew! Must be my imagination again.”

Just then, a ferocious beast (the Globtol Ferroca) leaps up from where Billy is. It makes a loud roar, causing Billy to fall back to the ground. The Globtol Ferroca then pins Billy to the ground.

BILLY
“No. Not my imagination.”

Billy sees the Globtol Ferroca as a huge gorilla-like creature. It gnashes away with its huge fangs at Billy.

BILLY
(trembles) “Listen! I don’t know if you can understand me, but…”

The Globtol roars in Billy’s face.

BILLY
(stammers) “P-P-Please, please. I was just looking for some pet that some of my friends are looking for. D-D-Don’t eat me!”

The Globtol roars again, before Nyssa turns up around the corner.

NYSSA
(cries) “Wait! Please don’t hurt him!”

The Globtol grunts confused, as it turns to see Nyssa arrive. Billy also sees Nyssa from where he is with the Globtol on top of him.

NYSSA
(reassuringly) “It’s alright! Please let him go. He’s my friend!”

BILLY
“Nyssa?!”

NYSSA
(pleased) “Billy!”

BILLY
(relieved) “Oh thank goodness you’re alright. Alive and well” (Pause) “Nyssa, what is this thing?”

The Globtol roars, before Boco and Hilda turn up.

BOCO
(thrilled) “Sandy! There you are!” (scolds) “You naughty boy! We’ve been looking for you!”

The Globtol Ferroca, or Sandy as it’s called, grunts apologetically.

HILDA
(relieved) “So you found him at last, Billy.” (Pause) “Who is this girl then?”

BILLY
(thrilled) “This is my friend! Nyssa!”

NYSSA
(to Hilda) “How do you do!”

HILDA
(to Nyssa) “How do you do, dear!”

Sandy the Globtol grunts, as Boco approaches him.

BOCO
(to Sandy) “I didn’t think we’d ever find you out here!”

HILDA
“Oh Boco, really!”

BOCO
“No, no I mean it. It’s not easy looking for a Globtol furry like Sandy, who’s lost out here with no friends to look after you. Not even your own parents.” (to Sandy) “You shouldn’t have wandered off, Sandy. Not in that sandstorm by yourself.”

BILLY
(interrupts) “Uh, Boco.”

BOCO
“Yes Billy?”

BILLY
“Do you think you could get him off me? It’s rather uncomfortable here.”

HILDA
“Boco?”

BOCO
“Oh, sorry about that.” (to Sandy) “Sandy. Off the boy!”

Sandy, a little confused, eventually gets off Billy. Billy gets up from the floor, as he is helped up by Nyssa.

NYSSA
“There you are, Billy. Everything’s alright now.”

BILLY
“Yes. It is good to see you again, Nyssa.”

NYSSA
“Yes, Billy. It’s good to see you again too.”

Nyssa and Billy hug each other.

HILDA
“It’s a good thing you found Sandy, Billy. There would have gone my steak pudding back at the hut if we didn’t find him before dark.”

BOCO
(astonished) “You’ve got steak pudding, back home?”

Meanwhile, Billy and Nyssa exchange stories.

BILLY
“Oh, Nyssa. I’m so sorry I left you behind. It’s my fault that you were stranded here with those ruffians.”

NYSSA
(reassuringly) “Billy, it’s alright. I’m just glad you came for me.”

BILLY
(rambles) “But you’ve no idea what I’ve had to do to get here. I mean I had to leave the Doctor behind, then I had to escape some tin pots called Daleks, then I had to crash land here on this planet in a shuttle and got lost [in a sand storm. If that wasn’t bad enough, I had to…]”

NYSSA
(interjects; raises voice) “Billy, Billy, Billy, BILLY, BILLY, BILLY…”

Billy rambles on, whilst Nyssa tries to stop him and calm him down. Eventually Nyssa puts her hand on Billy’s mouth, causing him to mumble before he stops talking. Nyssa lets go of her hand from Billy’s mouth.

NYSSA
“Billy, tell me about it later. Where’s the Doctor?”

BILLY
“Well that’s what I’ve been telling you. He’s a prisoner of the Daleks. We’ve got to rescue him.”

NYSSA
“Not yet.”

BILLY
“What do you mean, not yet?” (realises) “Oh, I’m sorry. This is Boco and Hilda. They’ve been very kind to me. They helped me to find you.”

Nyssa shakes hands with Boco and Hilda.

NYSSA
Very pleased to meet you, Boco; Hilda. Thank you for looking after Billy for me.”

HILDA
“It’s the best we could do.”

BOCO
(ebullient) “Thank you for helping me find my pet Sandy.”

BILLY
“So this is your pet then?”

BOCO
“Yes he is. Don’t you like him?”

BILLY
(hesitant) “Well…he is big!”

BOCO
“Well what do you expect him to be then? Small? Globtol Ferrocas don’t come in different sizes, you know. Unless you wish to change the market.”

NYSSA
(reassuringly) “You’ve got a wonderful pet, Mr. Boco. He helped to save me and Nina’s life when…” (realises; troubled) “Nina! Oh no!”

BILLY
(concerned) “Nyssa, what’s wrong?”

NYSSA
“My friend Nina! She was left behind when she got captured by the Dwaxi!”

BILLY
“Well let’s go and help her!”

NYSSA
“No! If we went back, we’d all be captured! And I’ve got a really horrible idea on what they might do to her!”

SCENE #125 – INT – YENTIAS HUB, DWAXI FLAGSHIP – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile, in the Yentias Hub aboard the Dwaxi flagship, Nina struggles to break free as two Dwaxi troopers hold her tightly on her arms. Jack is one of the two Dwaxi troopers. The Blockade supervises everything, as Nina gets put into one of the cubicles of the Yentias Hub.

NINA
(pleads) “Let me go! Please, let me go!”

JACK
(mockingly) “Like a little girl! Always screaming ‘help!; help’!”

NINA
(cries) “Stop it, Jack! It’s not funny!”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “PUT HER IN THE CUBICLE!”

Nina struggles as she’s pushed into a cubicle by the Dwaxi troopers including Jack. They hold her as she struggles inside the cubicle.

BLOCKADE
(yells) “NOW STRAP HER!”

Both Jack and the other Dwaxi trooper strap Nina’s arms and legs into the cubicle. Nina cries as she feels the straps tighten around her arms and legs.

JACK
(relishes; maliciously) “She’s strapped in now, mate!”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “WELL GO ON THEN! INJECT HER WITH THE DRUG!”

Nina screams away, as Jack goes to fetch and pick up a tube from a table nearby. The tube contains the Yentias drug inside. Jack returns to cubicle with Nina inside and holds the Yentias drug tube in his hand.

BLOCKADE
(yells; impatiently) “NOW! STICK IT! STICK IT IN HER!! GO ON!! DO IT! NOW! NOW! NOW!!!”

Without hesitation, Jack place the tube of Yentias into the containment valve situated next to Nina’s neck whilst she’s inside the cubicle. Nina shakes about in her cubicle, unable to escape.

NINA
(pleads; desperately; sobs) “Please! Please, Jack! Don’t do this! Don’t! Don’t! DON’T!!!”

Jack ignores Nina, as he sets the injection needle into place. He presses a button a control panel next to the cubicle. The ‘hairdyer’-like device used for brainwashing lowers onto Nina’s head. Nina squirms as the brainwashing device hums gently before it’s about to condition her with Dwaxi thoughts.

JACK
(menacingly) “Now hold still, old friend. THIS…WILL…HURT!”

Jack presses one final button on the control panel. Nina then screams out loud in pain, as she gets jabbed by the needle. The brainwashing device hums loudly now, as it begins to condition her instantly. Just then, Commander Targah enters the Yentias hub and meets up with the Blockade.

TARGAH
“How is the treatment process going? Is it done yet!”

BLOCKADE
“IN A FEW MOMENTS, WE WILL HAVE A NEW SISTER IN OUR FORCE!”

Eventually, the conditioning process. The brainwashing device stops humming and rises up from Nina’s head. The injection process stops too as the needle pulls out from Nina’s neck. After a few minutes’ silence, Nina sits upright. She takes in her surroundings.

JACK
(taunts) “How are you feeling, girl?”

Nina then punches Jack fiercely in the face, before she lets out a loud, horrible shriek.

NINA
(shrieks) “Never call me a girl, you moron!” (gritted teeth) “Where’s my uniform?! Come on, where is it?! WHERE IS IT?!!”

TARGAH
“It is in the making, sweetheart!”

NINA
“Good! I hate to appear stupid in front of the others! I don’t any of the others laughing and making fun of me!” (yells) “If they do, I shall punch and kick them all!”

Targah; the Blockade and Jack laugh out loud. Nina laughs too, as she’s now become a Dwaxi trooper.

SCENE #126 – INT – SLIU MINES – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back on Yondamus Prime, in the Sliu Mines, the work goes on. The slave workers struggle to keep digging in the rock walls. The Supreme Dalek continues to supervise the operations. A loud whirring noise then goes off that is deafening and horrible.

SUPREME DALEK
“ATTENTION! ATTENTION! SLAVE WORKER WORK CYCLE COMPLETE! ALL OPERATIONS WILL CEASE! DIS-CONTINUE WORK! DIS-CONTINUE WORK! DIS-CONTINUE WORK!”

COLIN
“Why?”

SUPREME DALEK
DO NOT QUESTION!

Colin steps forward to challenge the Daleks.

COLIN
But why?

SUPREME DALEK
YOU WILL OBEY! DIS-CONTINUE WORK!

COLIN
But why? Why should I stop working!

SUPREME DALEK
(angrily) STOP QUESTIONING YOUR MASTERS! YOU WILL OBEY! ALL HUMANS WILL OBEY DALEK COMMANDS! DIS-CONTINUE WORK! DIS-CONTINUE WORK! DIS-CONTINUE WORK!

Suddenly, there is a huge explosion. All the prisoners scatter and scream about in the mines. The Daleks also go out of control; scream and panic.

MINE DALEKS
(screams; panics) WHAT IS HAPPENING?! I CANNOT SEE! MY VISION IS IMPAIRED! I CANNOT SEE! I CANNOT SEE! WARNING: EMERGENCY! MY VISION IS IMPAIRED! MY VISION IS IMPAIRED! IMPAIRED! IMPAIRED! CANNOT SEE! I CANNOT SEE!

The Supreme Dalek however isn’t affected by the huge explosion.

SUPREME DALEK
“ALL HUMAN PRISONERS ARE ESCAPING! THEY MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO ESCAPE! EXTERMINATE ALL PRISONERS! ALL DALEKS EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!”

However the Daleks are unable to comply, as they keep going out of control.

MINE DALEKS
(screams; panics) “LOSS OF CONTROL! LOSS OF CONTROL! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! LOSS OF CONTROL! LOSS OF CONTROL! LOSS OF CONTROL! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP!”

Meanwhile, Captain Sulley; Wilson and Gavin have a chance to escape.

CAPTAIN
“Good work, Mr. Frakes!”

GAVIN
“Thank you, sir.”

CAPTAIN
“Great idea of yours when you set that explosive into the rocks and dug it in. Now we can get back to the Moonraker.”

COLIN
“We’d better not stay here for too long then, sir!”

CAPTAIN
“Quite right, Mr. Wilson. Lead the way!”

COLIN
“Right, sir! I think this way…”

SUPREME DALEK
“HALT! HALT! YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED!”

The Supreme Dalek approaches them. Gavin steps forward to meet it.

GAVIN
“You go on, sir! I’ll deal with this one!”

CAPTAIN
No, Mr. Frakes! You must come with us!

GAVIN
There isn’t time, sir! You must go! I’ll be alright! (to Colin) Colin, take the Captain with you!

CAPTAIN
Mr. Frakes, you will accompany us! That is an order!

GAVIN
I’m sorry, Captain! But I disobey! Now run!

Shocked, Captain Sulley tries to run forward to get Gavin. But Colin stops him in his tracks.

COLIN
Come on, sir!

CAPTAIN
(protests) But Mr. Frakes is…

COLIN
Come on!

Colin drags the Captain with him, as they run away. Meanwhile, Gavin lifts up a huge rock from the ground and aims it at the Supreme Dalek.

GAVIN
“Here, Dalek! Take this!”

Gavin throws the huge rock at the Supreme Dalek. But the huge rock bounces off the Supreme Dalek’s casing instantly, not damaging it. Moment of tense silence.

SUPREME DALEK
(mocks) “MY CASING IS NOT IMPARIED!”

The Supreme Dalek advances towards Gavin, as he kneels to the ground.

GAVIN
(prays) “Thank you, God. It’s been fun!”

The Supreme Dalek raises and trains its ray gun on Gavin.

SUPREME DALEK
“EXTERMINATE!!!”

The Supreme Dalek fires it ray gun and Gavin is electrocuted instantly. Gavin’s scream is soundless, as he collapses to the ground in agonising pain before he dies. The Supreme Dalek then turns to address the remaining Daleks in the mines.

SUPREME DALEK
MAXIMUM EXTERMINATION WILL BE INITIATED! THE PRISONERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ESCAPE! EXTERMINATE ALL PRISONERS IN THIS MINING AREA AND REPLACE THEM WITH NEW WORKERS! THE OPERATIONS OF THIS OBJECTIVE WILL SUCCEED! NOTHING MUST INTERFERE WITH THE DALEKS! NOTHING! NOTHING! NOTHING!!!

MINE DALEKS
WE OBEY!

The Daleks carry out their orders, as they glide away into the mines.

SCENE #127 – INT – SLIU MINES – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Down a long corridor in the Sliu mines, Captain Sulley and Colin manage to escape the throes of the Daleks. They stop for a minute to catch their breath.

CAPTAIN
Is…Is Mr. Frakes behind us?

COLIN
No. He’s dead back there. Our escape plan has been all for nothing.

CAPTAIN
“Don’t say that, Mr. Wilson. You remember now. We must head for the surface of the planet.”

COLIN
“But all our crew maybe dead. Now Gavin’s dead, we have no chance.”

CAPTAIN
“There’s always a chance, Mr. Wilson. Never forget that!”

COLIN
“Is there though? Is there really?”

CAPTAIN
(sighs) Come on, Mr. Wilson. Let’s keep going!

Captain Sulley leads the way, as he tries to find a way out of the mines to the surface of the planet. Colin follows his Captain.

    Hi Tim

    Finally got to chapter 11!

I like the opening scene with Boco, Hilda and Billy. It seems to really fit in with the terrain, and the characters, and what they’re trying to achieve. All very well done, Tim.

Oh my goodness, what the Daleks did to the Yond Elders was very shocking!

Golly, that scene was a bit traumatic, but absolutely right for the Daleks to be like that! That was excellently written, Tim, I even felt slightly sorry for Ambassador Togal!

Aha, now we see what the Daleks want. I like this idea of involving the Doctor in this element of the story, it’s very well thought out. Everyone is behaving exactly as they should, really, aren’t they?

Ewww, radish and eel sandwiches! That doesn’t sound very nice!

I’m very glad they found Sandy; and Nyssa! That’s good, that they’re all safe again, for the moment, anyway.

    Oh no, poor Nina!

    Oh no, poor Gavin!

My goodness, what will happen next!?

    Great stuff, Tim!

    Hi Leigh.

I’ve just come back from my weekend in Chichester. Had a nice time. Hope to tell more how it went in a blog post soon.

Very pleased you enjoyed Chapter 11. I look forward to your comments on Chapter 12 next. Thanks for your comments on Chapter 10 and 11.

    CHAPTER 10
I liked your comments about Billy. I’m glad you don’t want him killed off yet. 😀 That’s very interesting insight you have about Billy in the sandstorm having echoes of ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’ in it. Certainly the ‘Star Trek’ element was there, but I don’t think I had ‘Star Wars’ in mind when I wrote it.

Yes the Daleks are the most dangerous creatures the Doctor’s ever come against in his life and I didn’t want to disappoint anyone when writing for the Daleks in this adventure. I’m glad you agree with my thoughts on the Supreme Dalek trying to please his Emperor Dalek when doing drastic things in his line of work.

I’m glad that characters like Ambassador Togal echo Mavic Chen for you from the First Doctor and Third Doctor stories. It is a tried and tested method in these ‘Doctor Who’ stories and it always works, so why not for this one. It is something for us to cheer the Doctor on for when coming up across characters like Togal and Chen.

I know. It’s a habit of mine when I know what’s going to happen next in the story and you don’t. 😀

How do you find the Dwaxi as villains so far then? Are they interesting and terrifying for you at the moment?

Interesting that you mention the Daleks and Dwaxi equal each other in terms of ruthlessness and brutality but come at it from different angles. You really are wondering whether the Dwaxi Directors will make an appearance in this story, aren’t you?! 🙂

I’m glad you liked it when Nyssa talked openly about her family and the Doctor and Billy to Nina. Well, I’d like to think that being in the TARDIS with other people would make you close, even if it’s someone you wouldn’t necessarily get on with. Nyssa certainly seems to get on with the Doctor and Billy at the moment, just as she got on well with the Doctor; Adric and Tegan in Season 19.

Well the fact that the Dwaxi seem to be drug-addicts from the Yentias explains a lot and answers some if not all of the questions about them. I’m sure more will get revealed about why the Dwaxi do the things they do and how our heroes will find out about the significance of it all.

Billy certainly has lived a sheltered life where he comes from on Earth, so he would be surprised and shocked at all the terrible things he’s witnessing when travelling in the TARDIS as you rightly say. I think Billy can rely on Boco and Hilda to help him to find Nyssa and he certainly warms to them as they look after him after rescuing him from the sandstorm.

Yes it does seem odd that the Dwaxi devastate a planet like Yondamus IV to conquer it. They are bonkers after all, and perhaps what they do seems normal to them and they relish in it. Perhaps it’s what the Directors want in their Dwaxi troopers to be like. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you learn more about the Dwaxi later on in the story.

Interesting thoughts of yours about the ships meeting up at Yondamus Prime. It was a very visual scene when I wrote and I wanted to encapsulate the sense of scope in outer space. I think it would work well in a BF audio compared to a TV story (unless they had a massive budget and CGI effects to make it work). I’m glad that scene worked for you when you read it.

Well it seems that Dwaxi want to convert people to be as angry; violent and bonkers as them compared to Cybermen who want people to be in metal skins. The reasoning behind it, beggars belief and understanding at the moment? I’m sure it’ll get interesting and revealed later on.

    CHAPTER 11
Oh I’m glad you liked the opening scene between Boco; Hilda and Billy in the jeep. Boco and Hilda seem to know about the Daleks don’t they? I liked it when Billy mentions that Nyssa means a lot to him, despite not knowing her very well.

Yes it was shocking what the Daleks did to the Yond Elders. They seemed to let them go at first, then the Daleks had them killed instantly. Very typical Dalek behaviour, I thought.

I’m glad you found that scene with the Yond Elders and Togal getting exterminated by the Daleks excellently written. Even Ambassador Togal didn’t deserve that. I thought it was dramatic when Elaine shouted at the Daleks and told them to ‘just stop’ but they wouldn’t listen.

I’m glad you got to the bit where the Daleks reveal what they want the Doctor to do and how he gets involved in sorting out this virus of theirs to destroy the Dwaxi with their Yentias. More information is revealed about the Dwaxi by the Emperor Dalek isn’t there, about their Yentias and where they come from in an ‘alternative future’. But the Doctor suspects that the Daleks aren’t revealing everything. Could the Daleks be telling the truth when the Dwaxi attacked them first? I liked it when the Daleks threatened to exterminate the Doctor if he fails them and he’s cheery about it.

How does the Emperor Dalek compare to other ‘Doctor Who’ stories he’s been in then?

Yes. Radish and eel sandwiches. Not nice at all. But then it was Boco’s fault to eat up all the tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches, isn’t it? 😀 I wonder if you can eat eels with radishes in sandwiches though. Depends what eating habits they have in the 26th century. I thought it’d be a funny moment to have that in the story when Boco complains to Hilda about it.

Yes Sandy and Nyssa have been found!

Did you find it funny when Sandy jumped on Billy? It took a while for Sandy to come off when Billy asked Boco, “Do you think you could get him off me? It’s rather uncomfortable here.”

Billy’s pleased to see Nyssa again, isn’t he? Did you like it when Billy was babbling and Nyssa had to cover his mouth with her hand so that he can shut up.

Yes that was pretty horrible what happened to Nina? She changed so suddenly when she punched Jack in the face and became all so-Dwaxi, didn’t she?

Yes it didn’t go well for Gavin did it? But at least he gave Captain Sulley and Colin a chance to escape before he got exterminated. He was very clever when setting the explosives in the rock, wasn’t he? I don’t think there are many members of the Moonraker crew left, are they?

Glad you enjoyed Chapter 11, Leigh. Thanks for your comments. Hope you enjoy Chapter 12 next.

    Tim. 🙂

    Hi Tim

I’m glad you had a nice weekend away in Chichester.

I was thinking of the Star Wars landscape a bit; the desert-like look of Tattoine, really. But I think the Star Trek feel was evident, too. The landscape, the crash, the sandstorm.

I think your take on the Daleks is very good; they are dangerous, and the Doctor knows that full well. After my re-listen to the BF audio Jubilee this week, I’m reminded exactly how dangerous they can be!

I agree, characters like Togal are those that the Doctor fights against wherever he goes in the universe, aren’t they?

Indeed, I had noticed this tendency to not tell me what’s going to happen next! It’s quite right, of course!

The Dwaxi are terrifying, because you can see what they are capable of. But at the same time, you wonder what’s driving them on, as they seem so mindlessly brutal in their actions, you wonder where their motivations are coming from. I know that the Directors are there, somewhere, but who and what they are, and what they’re doing, and how they’re making the Dwaxi do their bidding, I don’t know. For the characters in the story, I suppose they don’t know about the Directors, so can’t perhaps fathom the Dwaxi’s motivations. An interesting dilemma.

I am wondering about the Dwaxi Directors!

Yes, I think travelling in the Tardis would put you in such close quarters with others, that you would find yourself perhaps acting differently to what you might expect to do in more ‘normal’ living conditions and circumstances. It’s important, I should think, that those in the Tardis would need to get on, or manage their relationships with each other, all being so different in backgrounds.

Ah, yes, the Dwaxi motivations are really very much at the heart of this story, aren’t they? That, and their interactions with the Daleks, who in turn interact with the Earth forces.

It was typical when the Daleks killed the Yond Elders – they are of no further use, so they have no value, and can be exterminated.

Yes, not even Togal deserved that fate. He was really only doing what he thought he had to, even if was completely misguided.

I liked the Doctor’s slightly flippant attitude to the Daleks, and the Emperor Dalek when he’s being told what they want him to do, and how they got involved with the Dwaxi. I do wonder what the Daleks aren’t telling, and what more they have up their sucker sleeves!

I think the Emperor Dalek sounds very good, and very much how he should. Superior to the others, and more authoritative, and well ‘voiced’, I think.

Radish and eel sandwiches sound horrible! I think I’d prefer the sandwiches without the eels, really. I wonder where they get the eels from, they must have underground streams with fresh water eels on Yondamus, do you think?

I did think it was funny when Sandy leaped on Billy and poor Billy was stuck there for a while before anyone got Sandy to move.

Yes, poor Nina, she’s been converted, too. That doesn’t seem fair, at all!

There can’t be many crew members of the Moonraker left now. They’re all doing their very best to survive and get away, though, which is what you’d expect, isn’t it.

    On to chapter 12!

    Great stuff, Tim.

I thought Sandy belonged to Boco & Hilda & I’m glad Billy & Nyssa are reunited, i loved the tension between the Doctor & Dalek Emperor my friend this was a very dramatic scene brilliant dialogue & i could see both characters in my imagination when reading it, it makes sense that the Dwaxi are from a parallel universe & get there strength from a genetically engineered drug that was a great idea & makes the story intriguing as will the Doctor create a anecdote to counteract it’s affects or come up with another solution.

Gutted Gavins dead but he did a hero nevertheless, i found Ninas conversion very disturbing & was hoping someone would rescue her but alas shes turned into a bad ass Dwaxi.

Fantastic chapter my friend this story is dark, grim, gruesome & disturbing, I LOVE IT!

I’m glad you were right about Sandy belonging to Boco and Hilda. Quite an unusual pet for them to have isn’t it?

I’m pleased you’re glad that Billy and Nyssa are reunited together. Nyssa couldn’t stop Billy talking when he was so relieved to see her again. 😀

I’m pleased you liked the tension between the Doctor and the Dalek Emperor in this story. I enjoyed writing those scenes in the story. Glad you found the scene dramatic and brilliant with the dialogue between the Doctor and Dalek Emperor and that you could see the characters in your imagination when reading the story.

I’m pleased you enjoyed the Dwaxi coming from a parallel universe and that the genetically engineered drug they have was a great idea. It does make the Dwaxi more interesting than just petty thugs as they seem to appear on first impressions.

Hmm, will the Doctor create an antigen for the Dwaxi drug for the Daleks or do something else. Well, you’ll just had to read on and find out. 😀

Yes, I’m sorry Gavin died that death in this chapter in the story. But I’m pleased you liked it he had a heroic death when defending the Captain and others against the Daleks.

What do you make of Captain Sulley in the story?

Yes Nina’s conversion into a Dwaxi is a shock. I try my best to make the audience reading this story like these characters so much and care about them when something terrible shocking and happens to them. I’m glad I did for you with the characters featured in this story when they get killed or turned into Dwaxi.

I’m pleased the story’s dark, grim, gruesome and disturbing tone meets with your tastes, Simon. Glad you’re loving it so far.

    Many thanks for your comments!

    Tim. 🙂
