SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve seen the third ‘Paddington’ movie at the cinema called ‘Paddington in Peru’. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Paddington Bear on the big screen, isn’t it? We had the first two movies in 2014 and 2017, and we had a lovely sketch with him and Queen Elizabeth II. 🙂
I enjoyed checking out ‘Paddington in Peru’ at the cinema recently. Like the first two movies, ‘Paddington in Peru’ is a charming film about the polite little bear, who loves marmalade, having an exciting adventure to Peru with the Brown family to find his Aunt Lucy.
Whilst I enjoyed the third ‘Paddington’ film, I can’t help there were things about it that could have been done differently. It’s certainly a film that entertained and had me laughing, but I wish things were kept consistent concerning the overall ‘Paddington’ film series.
Mainly it’s to do with the cast of characters than with the story itself. Ben Whishaw of course returns to voice Paddington Bear, which is a joy. Hugh Bonneville returns to play Henry Brown, the father of the Browns, which is great, and I’ve watched all of ‘Downton Abbey’. 😀
But then Emily Mortimer plays Mary Brown, the mother of the Browns. Nothing wrong with Emily Mortimer as she’s very good, but I wish it was Sally Hawkins playing the character again, as in the first two films. Emily Mortimer was in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ by the way.
A film that Ben Whishaw was also in too. 😀 There’s Madeleine Harris as Judy, the Browns’ daughter and Samuel Joslin as Jonathan, the Browns’ son. I’m amazed these two returned to play their characters from the first two films, especially as they’re now grown-up here.
There’s Julie Walters who returns as Mrs. Bird and Jim Broadbent who returns as Samuel Gruber, although he doesn’t appear much in this film. Olivia Colman (who I’ve seen in the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Eleventh Hour’ and ‘The Favourite’) plays the Reverend Mother.
I must admit, I quite like how she’s at first seemingly the villain before fooling me into thinking that she’s one of the goodies before turning out to be the villain after all. 😀 There’s Antonio Banderas playing Hunter Cabot along with Carla Tous as his daughter Gina Cabot.
I found Antonio Banderas very entertaining, having seen him in the ‘Spy Kids’ movies and the ‘Shrek’ films. I believe Antonio got more screentime in ‘Paddington in Peru’ compared to ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’. I’ve cast him as Salvador in ‘Doctor Who’. 😀
Simon Farnaby, who worked on the film’s story, been in the previous ‘Paddington’ films and I’ve seen him in ‘Horrible Histories’ and ‘Wonka’, plays Barry the flight attendant in the film. I do wonder if Simon Farnaby is playing the same character in all of these movies.
I mean, he’s credited as Barry in all three films after all. 😀 I noticed Hayley Atwell was in the film (Why did she have an American accent for this one? :D) and I spotted Ella Bruccoleri, who’s been in ‘Call the Midwife’, too. She plays a nun in this movie as well. 😀
Imelda Staunton returns to voice Aunt Lucy, as she played her in the first two ‘Paddington’ films. There’s also Joel Fry, Robbie Gee, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Ben Miller and Jessica Hynes who make small appearances in this film. No Peter Capaldi as Mr. Curry though, which is a pity. 😦
At least I saw him in a Multibank advert before the film started, which is nice. 🙂 And Hugh Grant made a brief appearance as Phoenix Buchanan in a couple of post-credits scenes. I did wonder whether Hugh Grant would make a cameo in the third ‘Paddington’ movie. 😀
So, ‘Paddington in Peru’ was another enjoyable experience for me at the cinema. I wouldn’t say it was as good as the first two ‘Paddington’ films, but it was still worth checking out. I doubt a fourth ‘Paddington’ film will be made, but you never know, do you?
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
