It’s time for us to check out the Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor era, which is technically the shortest-lived ‘Doctor Who’ era ever on TV. Thankfully, Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor has had a long life in the Big Finish audios. 😀 Let’s check out ‘The TV Movie’, which was shown on UK and USA TV in May 1996. The ‘Doctor Who’ TV Movie is by Matthew Jacobs and was directed by Geoffrey Sax. As well as Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, there’s Daphne Ashbrook as Grace Holloway, Yee Jee Tso as Chang Lee and Eric Roberts as the Master. This story also features the regeneration between Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor into Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. ‘The TV Movie’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
And here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is also the last story of the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era as well as the last story of the original 1963-1989 TV series. It’s time for ‘Survival’, a three-part adventure by Rona Munro, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This story has the Doctor taking Ace home to Perivale in the year 1989 and it also features the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master. There are also the Cheetah-People with their leader Karra, played by Lisa Bowerman (who would go on to play Bernice Summerfield in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’). ‘Survival’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s time to check out Season 23 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Season 23 is a fourteen-part story called ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’, and it’s Colin Baker’s second and (sadly) final season as the Sixth Doctor. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ is divided into four segments, including ‘The Mysterious Planet’ by Robert Holmes, ‘Mindwarp’ by Philip Martin, ‘Terror of the Vervoids’ by Pip and Jane Baker and ‘The Ultimate Foe’ by Robert Holmes & Pip and Jane Baker. As well as Colin Baker, there’s Michael Jayston as the Valeyard and Lynda Bellingham as the Inquisitor. There’s also the Doctor’s companions Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

Season 21 isn’t over yet, but it’s time for the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ to come to an end. It’s time for ‘The Caves of Androzani’, a four-part story by Robert Holmes. This is rated as possibly the best ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made in the entire TV series. Is this something I agree with? In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri visit the planet Androzani Minor, where they step into some raw spectrox and start to die from it. Can the Fifth Doctor save Peri in time from the poisonous effects of the deadly spectrox? There are some special guest cameos of Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and Anthony Ainley as the Master in the story. ‘The Caves of Androzani’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. And thus ‘the moment has been prepared for’, as we come to the finale of Season 18 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the end of the seven-year Tom Baker/Fourth Doctor era. Today, it’s time for ‘Logopolis’, a four-part story by Christopher H. Bidmead. This story introduces us to Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka, an Australian air hostess who accidentally joins Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Matthew Waterhouse as Adric aboard the TARDIS. It also features the return of Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, who becomes a proper ‘Doctor Who’ companion here, as well as the return of Anthony Ainley as the evil Master. ‘Logopolis’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. We’ve come to the end of Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the end of the Jon Pertwee era. Season 11 concludes in the six-part adventure called ‘Planet of the Spiders’. As well as Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, this story also features Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. There are also giant spiders featured in this story. Is one of them Shelob from ‘The Lord of the Rings’? 😀 ‘Planet of the Spiders’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

Here we are on the final TV story of the William Hartnell/First Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and it’s the first one to feature the Cybermen. ‘The Tenth Planet’ is a four-part adventure that takes place in the South Pole in 1986. The Cybermen are from the planet Mondas, Earth’s long lost twin planet. The fourth episode of ‘The Tenth Planet’ has been animated, whilst the regeneration scene between William Hartnell into Patrick Troughton is still intact.
