Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For my birthday, I received ‘The War Games in Colour’ on DVD, which I’m very pleased to have. I have shared my thoughts on the colourisation of ‘The War Games’ back in December 2024 when it came out on BBC Four. So, I don’t need to share them again here. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Twice Upon a Time’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the final story of the Peter Capaldi/Twelfth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and it’s the final story of the Steven Moffat era. Here we are on the 2017 Christmas Special called ‘Twice Upon a Time’ by Steven Moffat. As well as Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, he gets to meet and team up with David Bradley as the First Doctor. David Bradley played William Hartnell in the 2013 docu-drama ‘An Adventure In Space and Time’. Since then, he’s played the First Doctor more than once in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’. Also in ‘Twice Upon a Time’, there’s the return of Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and the introduction of Mark Gatiss as the Captain. There are guest returns of Rusty the Dalek from ‘Into the Dalek’, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald and Matt Lucas as Nardole. There are also small appearances of the First Doctor’s companions, including Polly (played by Anneke Wills/Lily Travers) and Ben (played by Michael Craze/Jared Garfield). With this being the last story of the Peter Capaldi/Twelfth Doctor era, does ‘Twice Upon a Time’ conclude it on reassuring and satisfying notes? ‘Twice Upon a Time’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out another two-part story in Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. It’s time for ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’ by Paul Cornell, based on his original 1995 book called ‘Human Nature’, which featured the Seventh Doctor. 😀 In the TV version of the ‘Doctor Who’ story, the Tenth Doctor decides to become human and calls himself ‘John Smith’ to hide from the alien Family of Blood whilst being a schoolteacher at Farringham School for Boys in England on Earth in the year 1913. Martha acts as a maid whilst at the school. This ‘Doctor Who’ story also features Jessica Hynes as Joan Redfern, John Smith’s love interest, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Tim Latimer. And there are scarecrows in this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure. 😀 ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Father’s Day’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for an emotional ‘Doctor Who’ episode in the new TV series called ‘Father’s Day’ by Paul Cornell. This was my first discovery of Paul Cornell’s writing in ‘Doctor Who’ before checking out ‘Circular Time’ and ‘Goth Opera’, both featuring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. In ‘Father’s Day’, Christopher Eccelston as the Ninth Doctor takes Billie Piper as Rose Tyler back in time to the day where her father, Shaun Dingwall as Pete Tyler, died in London in 1987. Rose inadvertently saves her dad’s life, causing the Reapers to be unleashed as they attempt to ‘sterilise the wound’. Does this incident damage the Doctor and Rose’s relationship? Will Pete Tyler learn the truth that Rose is his daughter. ‘Father’s Day’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
