Week 21 – ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ REVISITED & UPDATED

–UPDATED REVIEW ON AUDIO CD AND VINYL TODAY–

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve recently purchased a brand-new vinyl recorder player to play my ‘Doctor Who’ vinyls on. And because I’ve checked out the latest Big Finish audio story ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’ in my current ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season, I decided to revisit the Big Finish audio story ‘Spare Parts’ by Marc Platt, which has another version of the origins of the Cybermen on the planet Mondas. I regard ‘Spare Parts’ very highly and I prefer it over ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’. Not that ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’ is bad or anything. Far from it! It’s just I grew up with ‘Spare Parts’ first and I feel a leaning more towards that as a Mondasian Cybermen origins story compared to ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Survival’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is also the last story of the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era as well as the last story of the original 1963-1989 TV series. It’s time for ‘Survival’, a three-part adventure by Rona Munro, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This story has the Doctor taking Ace home to Perivale in the year 1989 and it also features the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master. There are also the Cheetah-People with their leader Karra, played by Lisa Bowerman (who would go on to play Bernice Summerfield in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’). ‘Survival’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Ghost Light’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to talk about the second story in Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘Ghost Light’, a three-part adventure by Marc Platt, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. The story takes place at a haunted mansion in Perivale called Gabriel Chase in the year 1883. There are special guest stars like Ian Hogg, Michael Cochrane, Sharon Duce, Frank Windsor, Sylvia Sims, etc. There are two viewpoints on how this story is rated. One that praises this story highly and the other that doesn’t get what the story’s about. Which viewpoint am I siding with? ‘Ghost Light’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Season 26 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And now we’ve come to the fourth and final story of Season 26 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray! This is one of my favourite stories with Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor and Sophie Aldred’s Ace. It’s time for ‘Survival’, the first ‘Doctor Who’ story by Rona Munro before she wrote ‘The Eaters of Light’ with Peter Capaldi. It was also sadly the last TV story to be featured in the classic series of ‘Doctor Who’. Continue reading
