‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Church on Ruby Road’

– – – BRAND NEW REVIEW – – –

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today is the penultimate instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ in 2023. I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out the marathon to celebrate 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’ as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing it this year. As we began with ‘An Unearthly Child’, the first TV story of the William Hartnell/First Doctor era, it’s only fair that we conclude with the first full-length TV adventure of the Ncuti Gatwa/Fifteenth Doctor era – ‘The Church of Ruby Road’ by Russell T. Davies. As well as being Ncuti Gatwa’s first full-length TV adventure as the Fifteenth Doctor, we’re introduced to Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, who becomes the Fifteenth Doctor’s new companion. This is also the first ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special since ‘Twice Upon a Time’ in 2017. With this being the 2023 Christmas Special, ‘The Church of Ruby Road’ also features Davina McCall as well as goblins and their Goblin King aboard a flying sailing ship in the sky. We’re also introduced to Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday, Ruby’s adoptive mother; Angela Wynter (of ‘EastEnders’ fame) as Cherry Sunday, Ruby’s adoptive grandmother; and Anita Dobson (also of ‘EastEnders’ fame) as Mrs. Flood. Apparently, Gemma Arrowsmith, who wrote the ‘Doctor Who’ audio story ‘The Flying Dutchman’, is in this Christmas Special as a character called Ruth Lyons. Did ‘The Church on Ruby Road’ impress me as a good comeback for the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Specials in 2023? ‘The Church on Ruby Road’ can be checked out on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ in other parts of the world. The story will be released on DVD and Blu-ray very soon in 2024. Continue reading

Quick TV Review – ‘Call the Midwife’, Christmas Special 2023

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It turns out I did see the ‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas Special on Christmas Day in December 2023. It’s only fair I saw it with it being Christmas Day and all. For what it’s worth, this Christmas Special is pleasant enough. It was very enjoyable to revisit many familiar characters I’ve seen over the years. 🙂 Continue reading

Comic Review – ‘Liberation of the Daleks’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

To conclude our look into the David Tennant/Fourteenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, let’s check out the very first Fourteenth Doctor adventure that was released in comic form by ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ from November 2022 to November 2023. This is ‘Liberation of the Daleks’, a 14-part comic story, which was released between the TV transmissions of ‘The Power of the Doctor’ in October 2022 and ‘Destination: Skaro’ in November 2023. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Destination: Skaro’, ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’

– – – BRAND NEW REVIEWS – – –

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is probably what you’ve been looking forward to. 😀 Welcome to the David Tennant/Fourteenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ in the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. This consists of the 60th anniversary specials that were shown on BBC TV in the UK and on Disney+ in other parts of the world from November to December 2023. There’s the mini-episode ‘Destination: Skaro’, which was shown on Children in Need night in November 2023, and there’s the three 60th anniversary specials themselves, including ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’. All the specials are by Russell T. Davies (with ‘The Star Beast’ being from a story by Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons), and they star David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. There are also special guest stars like Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker and Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, Donna’s daughter. There was a lot of hype in the build-up to the 60th anniversary specials on TV. Afterwards, lots of ‘Doctor Who’ fans and audience members have found them satisfying. Where do I stand on this? Did the 60th anniversary specials of ‘Doctor Who’ by RTD fulfil my expectations? ‘Destination: Skaro’ can be checked out on BBC iPlayer or YouTube, and ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer in the UK or on DVD, Blu-ray and Disney+ in other parts of the world. Book/Audio Review – ‘Combat Magicks’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

There aren’t any Big Finish audios featuring the Thirteenth Doctor yet. Hopefully that will happen soon. In the meantime, let’s close off our look into the Jodie Whittaker/Thirteenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ by checking out the ‘New Series Adventures’ book called ‘Combat Magicks’ by Steve Cole. This is the third in a trilogy of ‘Doctor Who’ books featuring the Thirteenth Doctor, Graham, Ryan and Yaz. Continue reading

The ‘Chicken Run’ Movies

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve seen the two ‘Chicken Run’ films over the Christmas period. These films are Aardman Animations productions. The ‘Wallace & Gromit’ films are also produced by Aardman. It was nice to check out these films, especially as I have very fond memories of the first ‘Chicken Run’ film as a kid. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Power of the Doctor’

– – – BRAND NEW REVIEW – – –

Merry Christmas everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

How fitting that on Christmas Day today, for the first time in the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, I’m sharing a brand-new review on a ‘Doctor Who’ story in the new TV series. It’s time to check out the third of the three Series 13 Specials of ‘Doctor Who’, which happens to be the BBC Centenary Special to celebrate 100 years of the BBC in 2022, and it’s the final story in the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era of the new TV show. Let’s check out ‘The Power of the Doctor’ by Chris Chibnall, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Mandip Gill as Yaz, John Bishop as Dan, Janet Fielding as Tegan, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Sacha Dhawan as the Master, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Jacob Anderson as Vinder, Patrick O’Kane as Ashad and plenty more special guest stars. There are also Daleks and Cybermen in this special ‘Doctor Who’ story, both voiced by Nicholas Briggs. In my brand-new review for ‘The Power of the Doctor’, I’m helped by Timelord007, WilliamsFan92, Wolfie and AFJ Kernow. Is ‘The Power of the Doctor’ a worthy conclusion to the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era of ‘Doctor Who’? Did it satisfy me on all levels? ‘The Power of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Christmas Eve today! So, let’s check out an Easter Special in today’s instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’! 😀 This is the second of the 2022/Series 13 Specials of ‘Doctor Who’, and the second Easter Special to be produced in the new TV series (the first being ‘Planet of the Dead’ in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era). It’s also the penultimate story in the Jodie Whittaker/Thirteenth Doctor era. This is ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ by Ella Road and Chris Chibnall, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, Mandip Gill as Yaz and John Bishop as Dan. The story has special guest star Crystal Yu as Madam Ching and there’s Craige Els as the Chief Sea Devil. There’s also an uncredited cameo appearance of Nadia Albina as Di, who appeared in ‘Flux’. This ‘Doctor Who’ Easter Special continues the storyline that’s been going on between Yaz and the Thirteenth Doctor, where Yaz happens to have romantic feelings for her. Is it handled in a satisfying manner? Are the Sea Devils also well-handled in terms of their return to ‘Doctor Who’, following ‘The Sea Devils’ and ‘Warriors of the Deep’? ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer.
