Just in case you missed it today, I’ve updated my review on the Target novelization/audiobook of the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Time Monster’ by Terrance Dicks, based on the original TV scripts by Robert Sloman and producer Barry Letts. The story features the Third Doctor, Jo, the Brigadier, Captain Mike Yates, Sergeant Benton and U.N.I.T. as they come up against the Master and the god-like Kronos. And thus, we’ve come to the fifth and final story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. Here we are on the fourth story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for us to check out ‘The Mutants’, a six-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. In this adventure, the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the planet Solo during the Earth Empire period of the 30th century. The Doctor has to deliver a spherical pod to someone that could provide the key to Solos’ future. The story features guest stars like Paul Whitsun-Jones as the villainous Marshal and Garrick Hagon as Ky, a Solonian who is against the Earth Empire’s (or ‘Overlords’ as the Solonians call them) presence on Solos. It’s time for us to check out the third story in Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s ‘The Sea Devils’, a six-part story by Malcolm Hulke, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. We return to Earth where the Doctor and Jo are helped, not by U.N.I.T. this time, but by the Royal Navy, led by Edwin Richfield as Captain Hart. The story features the return of Roger Delgado as the Master, who previously appeared at the end of Season 8 in ‘The Dæmons’ where he was arrested. ‘The Sea Devils’ is also a sequel to the Season 7 story ‘Doctor Who and the Silurians’, where we met the Sea Devils’ land-based cousins.
