Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re back with another review on a ‘Doctor Who’ novelization/audiobook, and this time, it’s on the first Fifteenth Doctor TV adventure that was shown on Christmas Day in December 2023 called ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, featuring the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday. The novelization is by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson, based on the TV script by Russell T. Davies, and the audiobook is read by Angela Wynter, who plays Cherry Sunday, Ruby’s grandmother in the TV series. I purchased the BBC Books hardback edition of ‘The Church on Ruby Road’ novelization as opposed to the Target paperback edition. Continue reading →

In case you missed it yesterday, I’ve added a brand-new review on the ‘Doctor Who’ Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who and the Invasion of Time’ by Terrance Dicks, based on the original TV scripts by ‘David Agnew’ (who is actually script editor Anthony Read with the scripts edited by producer Graham Williams). The story features the Fourth Doctor, Leela and K-9, and takes place on Gallifrey where our heroes confront the Vardans and the Sontarans. The 2016 audiobook for ‘Doctor Who and the Invasion of Time’ is read by John Leeson, who voices K-9 in the TV series and the Big Finish audios. Continue reading →

And here we are on the sixth and final story of Season 15 in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for an updated review on the six-part season finale ‘The Invasion of Time’ by David Agnew. The review was done by me and Timelord007 back in 2017. Today, we’re sharing our updated thoughts on the story, which sees Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor returning to Gallifrey, along with Louise Jameson as Leela and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. The guest cast includes John Arnatt as Chancellor Borusa, Milton Johns as Castellan Kelner, Chris Tranchell as Andred and Hilray Ryan as Rodan. The story also features the mysterious Vardans, and the war-like Sontarans, led by Derek Deadman as Commander Stor. This story also features the departure of Leela and K-9 Mark I. Continue reading →

Recently, my parents and I revisited the 2005 Disney superhero film ‘Sky High’ on Disney+. Thus, I decided to revisit the junior novelization of the movie, which was released in 2005 and I purchased in 2007. And thus, we’ve come to the fifth and final story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. Let’s finish our look into the season by checking out the six-part story ‘The Time Monster’ by Robert Sloman and producer Barry Letts. As well as Jon Pertwee, the story stars Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Roger Delgado as the Master, Richard Franklin as Captain Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. It’s time for us to check out the third story in Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s ‘The Sea Devils’, a six-part story by Malcolm Hulke, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. We return to Earth where the Doctor and Jo are helped, not by U.N.I.T. this time, but by the Royal Navy, led by Edwin Richfield as Captain Hart. The story features the return of Roger Delgado as the Master, who previously appeared at the end of Season 8 in ‘The Dæmons’ where he was arrested. ‘The Sea Devils’ is also a sequel to the Season 7 story ‘Doctor Who and the Silurians’, where we met the Sea Devils’ land-based cousins. Let’s check out the second story in Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Curse of Peladon’, a four-part story by Brian Hayles, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. No Brigadier, Mike Yates, Benton and U.N.I.T. with them for this occasion, as the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the alien planet of Peladon, where its people are about to join the Galactic Federation. David Troughton guest stars as King Peladon whilst Geoffrey Toone guest stars as Hepesh, the High Priest of Peladon. There are the Ice Warriors who make an appearance in this ‘Doctor Who’ story as well as Galactic Federation delegates like Alpha Centauri and Arcturus. Continue reading →
